what Jason Nolf's injury really was? I guess it doesn't matter, since he won a NC and all, but I'm just medically curious.

It might be the most impressive exhibition of wrestling I've ever seen in a way: He changed his entire style of wrestling for one tournament, and was as dominant as he was in his original style. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I’m curious why he was so late in walking to the mat Friday night for quarterfinals.

All other mats were set to go with wrestlers, coaches & refs... and Nolf was nowhere to be found.

For at least 3+ mins.

Gave every PSU fan a heart attack ... then he finally came jogging to the mat.

Last minute trainer attention ?
Knee brace issues ?

Inopportune potty break?

Has been covered in a previous thread. He just elected to stay in the tunnel instead of waiting on the mat. He showed up on time.

I'd like to know how he does what he does on a wrestling mat, because that's the actual mystery to me. I have no clue how that guy does it. Obviously, neither does anyone else, lol.
How do you think he does it?
What makes him so good?
He ain't got no distractions
Can't hear those buzzers and bells
Don't see lights a flashin'
Plays by sense of smell
Always gets a replay
Never seen him fall
That Nolf, fun, and bright kid
Sure plays a mean pin fall
;)

I could see Nolf warming up back in the tunnel from my seat in the stands. He was moving around just fine, and I could not see any special attention being paid to the leg.

And, I'm almost positive it was a TV timeout that was causing the delay, not Jason.

Jason Nolf is on a completely different level in folkstyle. Nobody else at the weight can even come close to him. He had an injury that would likely be the end of the season for almost anyone else and he still won. If that's any other guy they probably don't bother trying to wrestle on it because the chances of them being able to win are slim to none.

I seem to remember (and hope someone with a better memory can help) that Gene Mills injured his knee at the Easterns and was put in a cast that didn't come off until the Nationals that he went on to win.

Not to be overlooked.

When Jason took the mat Friday night we were in 2nd place, when he walked off the mat we were in 1st.

When he took the mat Saturday night we were in 2nd place, when he walked off the mat we were in 1st ... this time to stay.

It was a TV timeout.
And I am 100% certain that at least half a dozen semi-regular posters on here know the exact details of Nolf's injury, and kudos to them they are not on here stating them.

I was at the RAC and saw Jason's injury in person. Definitely something torn...my guess was ACL. As he sat on the mat you could clearly see his leg was bent at an awkward angle. Something tore for sure.

Book it.

So...the question becomes why did Jason deviate from his normal procedure of being in the center of the mat waiting on everyone else?

TRow and Funky’s take was unusual - they thought his injury was overblown, thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. I for one saw a noticeable difference in quickness and very apparent Jason was protecting his knee, not that any of that made a difference, fortunately for the good guys.
Interesting , when I listen to the show my take was they thought it was more serious. May go back and listen this time with my hearing aid on

Agree Slayer. That is what I thought I heard from them as well. Injury was serious and he changed his style to not let anyone in on his legs. Which he implemented spectacularly.

Not completely it wasn’t - the other semi started before Nolf was at the mat. TV was back a minute at least before Nolf made an appearance

I was watching the mat, at first nervous.... but he was not late to the mat, nor did anyone wait on him.

I was simulcasting Jeff's radio broadcast with the video. Jeff said that Cunningham had come out to the scorer's table and was talking to them prior to Jason's appearance. Byers expressed some concern that the match might not happen. There was considerable relief when Jason finally appeared. Even more so at the conclusion of the match!

Yes, Rowlands especially thought he was wrestling very injured.

This. JB owes all of us who were listening live an apology for that moment of dread. He went gloomy in a big hurry. o_O

Sorry, but that is just not true. When TV went to live wrestling it was split screen with the Hidlay QF starting about 5 seconds before Nolf's did and Nolf was center mat WAITING for Kemerer to take the mat. That said it was strange and though of us that could not see the tunnel where Jason was warming up were concerned, needlessly as it turned out.

aa talking semis, you talking quarters; probably you are both correct

Talked with him at the post party and he no idea what I was referring to. So my guess, it was nothing.

Or both wrong. I went back to the original post on this and it said the Friday night Quarter FInals which is wrong. Now I'm not even sure which round Nolf stayed back in the tunnel for. Guess I must be getting old. Sigh.

Right or wrong I just confirmed what I thought I was talking about... in the Semis... which was when Byers had us all nervous implying it might be an injury... he said something about Casey talking to the officials at the scorers table while the other wrestlers were on the mat and Nolf was not...

TV is talking to David Taylor as the other match starts. Nolf comes jogging onto the mat as the other match hits 2:45. They start as the other match is at 2:32. I don't know what the rules are, or what constitutes 'late', but I will at least consider it 'odd'.
