If Franklin were to leave, who is on your list to replace him?

Eh, I'd say PSU and Iowa are quite a bit different.

History, 100,000+ stadium and the proximity to much more talent.
But we’re a pretty good Big team just as Iowa is….that’s what matters most to recruits. Bottom line, the coach at PSU, Iowa, Michigan State, Wiscy, has to be able to recruit because the program isn’t recruiting itself any more especially with the down turn in talent in PA.

Is this a joke? No matter how much you hate Franklin, you can't possibly think that all of these guys are a step up. With the exception of Luke Fickell, hiring any of these other guys just sends a message that you have no interest in making Penn State Football a national program.
Either you did not read the list or you lack knowledge on these men.

So this great recruiter, who desperately needed a quarterback, could not convince a decent kid to come to his program? That’s what this comes down to.

I just saw an Apple News headline saying lame kiffin should move up lsu’s coaching list. Maybe we won’t get kiffin after all.

Replace Franklin because he doesn’t win enough and hire a guy who’s 29-23 since 2017 (Shaw)?
Any thoughts about bringing back O'Brien? He did a very credible job with the loss of many players. Coached Brady for years and is now QB coach at Alabama. He might be interested in a return to HCing. You could use his toughness against OSU and Michigan

I thought about this - he ticks a lot of boxes, but the way he left was pathetic. Ultimately I think he likes the NFL better and would be angling to get back there as soon as possible.

Do they come with their own bag men or do our large Donors have to supply that link to become “Elite”

Toughness and fortitude is desperately needed. Stat.

With a team that needed an OC, QB coach or TE coach?

So, he would take a non-coordinator job? Just wondering how many OC vacancies there were for him to consider before deciding Bama was the place to go. I don’t think he was in a position to take whatever job he wanted to be honest and still think he’s putting in work to get back to the NFL as an OC or HC.

We'll see. Kiffin, Locksley and Sarkisian all leveraged their positions with Saban into college HC jobs. O'Brien is aware of that and chose to make this move
And Bill O’Brien is already a proven CFB HC…winning records for 2 seasons with 50% of a roster.

Hell no!

Justin Fuente will need a job soon. Va Tech and PSU should just swap coaches. Would be a fair trade.

Aside from BOB, do Georgia, Alabama, OSU, any other top team have any hot coordinators?

I honestly don't think I would want BOB back. Great coach, but he admits hating, and stunk at recruiting.

Clemson. Their OC, Tony Elliott, had been mentioned in some circles as a candidate for USC (he’s from California).

Marcus Freeman defensive coordinator Notre Dame and Dan Lanning DC Georgia are two hot names. Alex Grinch DC Oklahoma formerly at tOSU and wazzou

I’d take Fickell. Living in Minnesota, I wouldn’t want Fleck. His schtick is even more tiring than Franklin’s.

I appreciate JFF’s recruiting ability and I’m not going to disparage the man, but it’s time for the program to move on.

Who can tell which coaches would be good here?

That's (presumably) what we pay Sandy Barbour and others for.

Of course, I don't think Sandy has any capabilities whatsoever, and could not tell the difference between Tom Landry and Rod Marinelli, but ....... well, welcome to the brave new world, I guess.

Maybe we had better just stick with Franklin. Odds are it would be worse, not better.

I think there is zero chance it is happening.

But, playing the hypothetical game….

1. Ruhle, my suspicion has always been he signed that Panthers deal with one out clause. He adores this place and it is his dream job. Well understood.

2. Fickell, proven commodity in Big 10 territory. Probably has a lifetime grudge against his alma mater.

Only 2 candidates. Hire Meyer, I’m out. I could not ever root for that clown.

1. Matt Ruhle - A Penn Stater and proven winner.
2. Brian Shaw - He took over from Harbaugh at Stanford, and elevated their play immediately. He proved he can get a team the top with Stanford's standards. At their peak, the Cardinal was the second best team in the country behind Michigan State in 2013. The Rose Bowl was the true title game, not the BCS BS.
3. Bill O'Brien - Unpopular with the slappies because of the way he left but he is the top offensive mind in the college game, could keep Allar in play and elevate the offense by October.
4. Matt Campbell - Just a darn good throw back coach that would fit in well and do well.
5. Bronco Mendenhall - Maybe the most under-rated coach in the country.

I would expect that if we were to replace Franklin that the next coach would also be a black man. Not that this is relevant but I believe that the next President to replace Barron will be either female or a minority, perhaps both. PSU is trying hard to increase diversity among its student body and these hires are part of that branding strategy.

Man I hope not. Best qualified candidate. Picking someone based on color, woke central. Just what we need, giving someone an insane amount of money because their skin is the right shade to put up 8-4 seasons….brilliant!!

Couldn’t care less who replaces Barron. Old Main will be a disaster for decades to come in our left leaning educational system.

Please share your list. I have no idea who would be realistic as a good fit and who would likely take the job.
Well, 20 years ago I said we should hire Nick Saben, and people said I was nuts! Well, hindsight is 20-20, but wound that not be a great hire. At this point I would settle for one of his assistants, Bill O'Brien!
