If Shrew leaves Jay Wright should be the target.

guess what

he wanted the job back in 2000

the super-genius in the AD position passed, then made a change to Ed DeChellis 2 or 3 years later

there were so many chances to put this program on a better course and one AD pretty much threw all of those chances in the garbage

Micah is basically the first coach he didn't hire during the big ten era. and look what happened

Well nobody knew Jay Wright would become the best coach in college basketball. I didn't.

I laugh-dreamed this last n8ght. First was Jay to GTown....

Then was Micah to Gtown and Jay to State.

A man can dream...but there is no way that Wright ends up here

Well they certainly could test the waters. No harm in that. Way stranger things have happened.

From all I've read and heard from the local Philly media and Nova alums, Jay may be one of the few coaches/athletes who is smart enough to retire on top.

Hopefully he learns from Coach K and Jim B that hanging around too long is not good for anyone. Supposedly the recruiting and N.I.L. bullshit is what chased him from the game. Maybe if that changes he looks to come back.

I even feel sad for Rick Pitino, with his likely return to MSG with the Johnnies. His whole life is tied to winning basketball games (and getting freaky under restaurant tables).

Jay can make a ton of dough and comment from the studio, and enjoy the life he built for himself on The Main Line.

You gotta know when to fold 'em....

Why would a 61 year old who is set financially for life, has accomplished the ultimate goal in the sport want to move to the middle of nowhere to take over a perennial bottom dweller basketball program that lacks facilities and commitment to win?

fair but, one can go down the rabbit hole all weekend on ways that Curley mismanaged the program. that is just one of many infamous examples

rumors i have read include that he gave the cold shoulder to Fran Dunphy, convinced Phil Martelli that we did not care about winning, ignored a job application from Steve Lavin, and reached an impasse with Tim Floyd over a contract being 6 years vs 8. and this was all in the same month. also ignored interest from Larry Brown years later

Thankfully
out of all of the horrible things he did with the program, that one was the least offensive

the ones i cannot fathom to this day are why he didn't care that Fran Dunphy seriously wanted the job, and chose Ed DeChellis instead. and why he totally ignored Steve Lavin. at best he was totally incompetent. at worst, who knows

Well Jay is younger than both of those guys. He has plenty left in the tank. Lots of coaches could make a lot of dough but they can make lots more coaching and that is why they do it. Jay does not need to coach again financially but any Athletic director that has a vacancy would be remise in his duties if he did not try to work a deal with the best coaching talent available in the country. Would you not even try to make a play for him?

Why? Money. The itch to coach again. Why did Brett Farve and Tom Brady retire and come back? Why do old broken bodied football players play still when they have enough money to be comfortable the rest of their lives? The statement is what Penn State should do if Schrews leaves not what Jay Wright would do if asked. Anybody that would not offer the Job to Wright would have to be the most clueless Athletic director in American. His phone should be the first one dialed and nobody should be worried about him saying no.

Shrew is the next Wright. Keep him. The answer is right in front of you Krafty. You have a chance to make a statement. To establish your rein like no other. It’s happening for a reason. Seize the moment.
Sure he is.

But why Penn State at this stage? Doesn't make sense. We can offer every coach in the country. Doesn't mean any would want it. He didn't make the decision he did to end up here. He's done or takes an elite job.

But you would have to make him an offer, agreed? My statement is what Penn State should do not what Jay would do if asked.
Who cares if they should if you know the answer is no? It's illogical. Georgia Tech calling Kirby Smart.

why not just keep shrewsberry here

he already decided to take the job here. give him a raise and he'll be happy for a few more years

relying on HOF coach coming out of retirement to go to the same place that botched his initial attempt to leave Hofstra is not a plan

Of course can try. 76ers were on him years ago. I'd see him trying NBA over college IF he were to un-retire.

If he is smart...he should spend some time with his family. During a career change I took 3 years off and raised my elementary aged kids. Best 3 years of my life.

Jay is a big boy. He also presents as different than most others in his profession. If he were my son and asked me about maybe coming out of retirement and going to State, my first ? would be Why?

If the answer was "money" I'd advise against it. We'll see.

Shrewsbury's son is at State high and committed to PSU. Why would Shrews leave?
he wouldn't, especially for georgetown which has been a crappy job for the better part of 20 years

if ND is really after him that's a bit more concerning

No of those reasons that he want to come to Penn State. If he did want to come back he have a heck of a lot better offers than Penn State. That would be as dumb as Pitt or Rutgers fans thinking they could land Dabo Swinney if he retired from Clemson. It is about as dumb as me thinking I have a chance with Gisele now that Tom Brady divorced her.

Money...going to a school that has a fanbase supporting the program more than we do...Money...somewhere that gives him a better chance of success...oh, and Money. Plenty of reasons (and if he leaves, I'm sure there is a good chance that his son would follow).

The only good thing about the current situation regarding the possibility of Shrew leaving is the fact that if he does PSU would still have a decent chance to hang onto Carey Booth, who teamed with Njie and whoever other freshmen stay and a couple of incoming transfers would still make for a fun team to watch.

Can’t speak to all of those rumors but I do know for a fact that the Dunphy rumor is true. He wanted the job and PSU basically blew him off. That comes from someone Who is personal friends with Fran

the Lavin one also definitely 100% happened. Lavin himself has said he applied and heard nothing. recall his time at ucla ended right before dunn was let go, or at least he knew it was ending

the interview and failed negotiations with Floyd were reported later, i think by either the Patriot News or the collegian. the reported sticking point was that Floyd wanted 8 years and they wanted to give him 6. a weird sticking point since Parkhill, DeChellis, Dunn and Chambers all got 8 or more years before being let go

$$$$ and the lure of ND. One good run is not always an indicator of consistent success. Coach would be a fool not coming out of this without lots of money and long term security. Tomorrow is promised to no one.

ND would be appealing to any coach. they kept the last guy forever.

PSU needs to give Shrewsberry a lot more money after this season if nd is serious. almost every big ten coach is paid between 3 and 4 million (izzo is way higher). shrewsberry is supposedly at 2.

There was something going on with Lavin. He had two large breaks in coaching. I don't know if it was his personality or some other issue.

He also was known as a tremendous recruiter and a bad x's and o's guy. He was smart to bring Keady along with him to St John's. It'll be interesting to see if he gains any traction in San Diego.
