With almost every starter returning who could return, this team definitely should be . . .

I don't get the optimism unless we think a service academy offense is the plan and will work. We'll have a good OL and running backs but the passing game and defense are going to be huge liabilities. We would have to have the discipline to prioritize time of possession. Sorry James, no more playing for the explosive play.

Even if we get a few players on defense there is still a gaping hole at linebacker. That's a leadership position and one that requires smart athletes. I don't see it. It will take time to develop and meld into the system.

At best we will be serviceable but thin, which means we'll have more 4th quarter worn down losses. Won't have to have Franklin's monkey to end up with the same types of games.

Too bad about Wallace and Evans but, with Allar back, it's understandable if they feel like they'll have more success elsewhere.

The foundation of the program these days are the DL and OL programs. The OL this year was one of the best in 25 years for PSU and one of the best in the B1G. With most of those guys back it is really exciting to see what they'll be able to do next year. More smashmouth football, more bully ball. I love it. PSU can finally play the kind of football Michigan and Ohio State (and Wisconsin in their glory years) play.

Allar can improve incrementally and be basically a game manager QB and hit a few long throws and avoid turnovers, and this PSU team can go far next season because they should be able to run the ball and defend the run. That is what winning college FB looks like.

You are confident that we will have the linebackers and safeties? I don't see a defense with any depth.

On the other side of the ball AK will have to design a different offense.

You do know that most, if not all, teams have certain positions that aren't deep, and direct competitors to PSU like OSU and Oregon are losing so much more than PSU. PSU's overall team in 2025 will be very experienced, and most positions will have sufficient depth.

What is the "lot of talent" you see in the WR room?
Denmark, Gonzales, and the two transfer guys. I don't know enough about the 2025 guys yet. Not worried about the raw ability, worried about the guy whose job it is to develop it.

Yes but we don't usually see these guys start to excel as RS freshmen.

Kids like #1 rated Jeremiah Smith are the exception. Our top recruits Brown & Gonzalez were rated #81 & #82 which frankly is an embarrassment. I'll be rooting hard for them but I'd be very surprised to see either of them get close to Walace's 700+ yds.

They won't defend the run well without a credible replacement for Kobe King @ MLB.

Then they'd be starting or we need a new coach that will play the best guys
Sometimes I don't think the coaches know, especially freshmen. I think 1st and 2nd team get most of the reps. I assume that's why they thought Roberson was better than Veilleau.

Not true. Barkley started his career in the bench behind mark Allen and the kid from Canada. Zach zwinak started 2012 as 5th string.

Was theo Johnson better than warren? Would PSU have been better if he came back last year?

There are many examples with a lot of coaches including every psu coach you have ever seen.

No coach "knowingly" is playing the lesser player
And, yes, many coaches, including Franklin, wait too long to make the move that they need to make. Theo Johnson is also a great TE--Warren and Johnson are very different. They both should have been on the field together the majority of the time.
Zwinak wasn't a great back--we just had a bunch of backs that were "meh"

Perhaps at Slippery Rock or IUP.

No one here is aware of anything involving other programs. Every other program has no holes, beats every ranked opponent they play while also never losing when they’re ranked.

Coaches don't know? Is that your excuse? If they don't know then that is the problem.

Zwinak didn't have to be great to be better than the four players ahead of him. Zwinak had 0 carries vs Virginia and Derek day had 20 carries for 40 yds. Zwinak started game 4 and finished the season with 1000 yds.

Correct they're not properly evaluating talent. Happens. Zwinak was better than Day...did he demonstrate that in practice? Zwinak was still not a great back as you know

I thought Zwinak was very good except for the fumbles.
