This is very interesting to see. Why do PSU fans think the football team should be on the level of OSU when the program pulls in ~70% the revenue?

Winning. You got to spend money to make money
Good new for youThere have been Bama fans that wanted Saban fired after losses…unfortunately having a functional brain is not a requirement for being a fan.
Not entirely serious but there are plenty of people out there who “eat what they kill.” I’ve always thought professional sports contracts should be tied more to performance than having huge base salaries.Wait - you are actually serious?
These guys work under a contract and are not "at will" employees. Gonna be tough to get any professional to work under those circumstances. Not entirely serious but there are plenty of people out there who “eat what they kill.” I’ve always thought professional sports contracts should be tied more to performance than having huge base salaries.
What if all those wins got vacated? How would you feel then?I just looked, there is no asterisk beside Ed or LSU for getting Burrow and winning it all. I can't imagine anyone complaining if PSU got in a 1 year QB to push them to the top.
It was like Barry Switzer winning a Super Bowl. He had little to do with it.He did get a Natty
Who cares what happens 10 years from now. It still happened. I watched it.What if all those wins got vacated? How would you feel then?
Perhaps…but the record books recorded it nonetheless. It was like Barry Switzer winning a Super Bowl. He had little to do with it.
Great. I'd rather win without cheating but hey, that's on me.Who cares what happens 10 years from now. It still happened. I watched it.

Assuming these figures are accurate, PSU's coaching expenses are 37% of revenue as compared to OSU's 34%. While the raw numbers might look like a problem, on a normalized basis we're just fine vs. OSU's baseline. On the facilities/overhead front we are 16% of revenue to OSU's 25%, that's more indicative of a potential issue but it's hard to say definitively without seeing what is included in that expense category. The delta in ticket sales revenue also jumps out. PSU has a larger capacity so that's especially odd. Without looking at average attendance figures I'm guessing OSU's ticket prices are higher? Does OSU sell alcohol inside the Shoe? I've heard that can add millions in revenue, but it wouldn't be enough to explain the $20M difference. The issue is not with Franklin's pay. The issue is with everything else around the program/department financially. See below for what I mean (2020 means the 2019-2020 academic year so Covid doesn't really affect these numbers):

LSU cheated?Great. I'd rather win without cheating but hey, that's on me.
Hiding crimes by your players is in fact cheating.LSU cheated?
Franklin tried that at Vanderbilt.Hiding crimes by your players is in fact cheating.
Zero , did you see how Mike Tomlin addressed the rumors about college coaching jobs today? It was classic and Franklin should do the same if he truly wants to be the coach at PSU.This link will help you gauge the salaries of other coaches, but you'll need to sort by "Scheduled School Pay".

Does the article not make sense? I agree about Zeise but this article is spot on. Franklin doesn't have as much leverage as he thinks he does or should. This board really has gone to great depths when Paul Zeise seems like a voice of rationality.

He reads, he is objective, and most importantly he is not a BWI fanboy.Does Paul Zeise know Indiana Fats or Ms. Excellence? Did he interview them for the article? So how the fvck does he know how much leverage Coach Franklin has?

He has been maybe a little worse than Franklin since then (9-9 vs. 9-7), so that doesn't help, but it's probably more of the off-the-field stuff that's been the main problem and why he has to go. He divorced his wife after winning the natty and was taking advantage of his celebrity status with the ladies, including bringing them around the football facility. Maybe the tipping point was when he unwittingly hit on an LSU administrator's pregnant wife at a gas station and when she said she was married he said so what.He rode Burrow to that championship and has been a disaster since.
I'd throw in as much free onion dip as he wanted and maybe up to another million. But every coach in the Top 10 besides Franklin except Mullen and Shaw has taken their team to the CFP, so I think his pay is in line with his performance. Stanford has plenty of cash and can pay whatever it wants, so I'd throw out Shaw as an outlier. I'm not giving CJF a raise after losing to Illinois but would consider it depending on how well he finishes and what other offers he may have. This link will help you gauge the salaries of other coaches, but you'll need to sort by "Scheduled School Pay".

So I get Sandy is retiring soon, but if you’re an AD with more years ahead of you and you let Franklin go to USC (for example) because you won’t pay him more and he goes there and builds a powerhouse and your new hire is not great, how’s your career looking?I am a big Franklin supporter and hope he stays, but unless things turn around quickly this season, I wouldn’t increase his salary. I wouldn’t fire him but I wouldn’t bump his salary either.
