Hired a guy to do a job for $4M.

In year 1 they double that salary and extend him to 8 years.

I swear I just saw this story at MSU.

Not judging whether Cignetti will be successful, but this won't keep him if he wants to leave.

Transfer teams can be great one year and horrible the next. See FSU. They signed Mike Norvell to a huge contract after his big year and that didn’t work out too well.

Yeah I thought the same thing! There is no doubt they are having a good year, but we all just saw during our own broadcast that IU has a strength of schedule of 100 behind that record.

It's shocking how you can pay a guy $4m and 6 months into his contract (and Indiana hired him because no one else would) he's at the table demanding 2x the pay.

How about wait until the end of the season?

Why would any rational person wait when he could double his salary now? News flash: the people running universities are incompetent boobs who have absolutely no concept of financial management let alone any other kind of management. These people are over educated ideologues who couldn’t successfully run a lemonade stand.

So--it's slightly different. Mel Tucker had two years (one at Colorado) going 7-12 before the fluke happened and they went 10-2
Cignetti won at IUP, Elon and JMU. He's 29-4 as an FBS coach. I don't believe Indiana's going to a contender but he could be the Kirk Ferentz or Pat Fitzgerald.
The Mel Tucker extension was just absurd

Mel Tucker... when did his contract happen?

I understand that it happened in November--I'm not disputing that
I'm saying that Cignetti has proven more--I don't think the situations are that comparable.
Tucker was in year 2--Cignetti year 1
Cignetti has far more HC experience
Cignetti has far more success as a HC

Haha. Yeah, not comparable at all. LOL

This won’t end well.

Why? They likely have 2 options. Give him a raise or lose him to another school. The big programs that have coaching openings are going to come calling immediately given the season he's had.

Here is a link to this mornings interview with Cignetti. He said Indiana approached him. He also mentioned that his last 4 qbs have been player of the year in their conference. Said nothing special to prepare for OSU -- they have a process and will prepare for OSU the way they would for anyone else. Also, Joel Klatt has mentioned that Indiana's qb is the best passer in all of college football on over the shoulder throws.

I was saying why would Cignetti wait when he could double his salary now. On the other hand, why would a university give Mel Tucker or Charlie Weis long term guaranteed multi million dollar contracts? Is Cignetti Charlie Weis or Nick Saban?
