Instead of another RIP, happy 100.

Which president would you rather have as a neighbor, Jimmuh or any other president in American history? I love him, whatever the perceived flaws of is time in office.

I saw his photo. Yikes. Reminds me of a time when a friend asked me if I would give up three months of my life to sleep with Pam Anderson (in her heyday). I said that depends if it was when I was young and healthy like in the PSU '94 season or at the end when I am out of it anyway. I thought that prudent.

Old Buck was too busy “chasing perfumed young men” than trying to save the country
There is no doubt Buchanan was on the wrong side of history and for that alone should rightfully be judged at the bottom of presidential administrations but this new story line is a fabrication of the present day Gay Mafia.

No. There have been strong rumors for 150+ years. It was a running joke back then. I studied 1850’s political history and the innuendo around Buchanan was constant in the press, political cartoons, etc.

We’ll have to agree to disagree. Most historians do not believe this was true. Buchanan was engaged to the daughter of a wealthy PA iron magnate and when she died he never married. There is no evidence to support it other than he was a lifelong bachelor and had a close friend with whom he lived for a time until that friend died. However this was a common occurrence of the period. The press and other politicians have said untrue things about politicians up until this very day. They said and wrote the most vile things about Abraham Lincoln. This “rumor” has only become semi-mainstream in our current era of gay advocacy.

Fair enough. The funniest dirty politic campaign was against Franklin Pierce. Due to many embarrassing episodes involving his drinking problem (never getting out of his tent for a battle during the Mexican-American War due to a severe hangover, falling off a horse during another battle due to being drunk, etc), wags called him “Hero of Many a Well-Fought Bottle” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

U. S. Grant also took his fair share of incoming. I believe he is one of the most underrated historical figures, not just presidents, for this reason.

Yup. And he heroically fought cancer to finish his autobiography and provide some semblance of an estate to his family. His autobiography is one of the greatest written by a political/military man
