#12 - Michael Beard
#14 - Aaron Brooks
#15 - Roman Bravo-Young
#20 - Gavin Teasdale

To be honest, I usually like Intermat's rankings better than Flo's because there is less recency effect, but, man, Brooks at 14 seems to be a huge miss. He's the recruit that strikes me as having the most Zain/Nolf/Bo/Cenzo/Hall level potential. But there are a lot of strong recruits in that class (duh). I think it's Cael's deepest class so far.

Those individual rankings kinda turn others on their head.
Most have Joe Lee ear the bottom of our kids and Seth not as high as that.
Wonder how Joe moved up w/o wrestling this year, and why RBY drops.
Did he not enter as many events this year?

Joe was a top 10ish guy before taking his senior year off. I think others ranked him where they did because they saw other wrestlers all year. Perhaps Intermat just left him in the same neighborhood, not "penalizing" him? He wouldn't have gained anything wrestling HS in IN this year, other than love from IN fans and being in a unique class (for IN) with Mason Parris and Brayton Lee. He did lose the opportunity for events such as WNO, PWC, the Dream Team Classic or other All-Star events.

to Joe's credit, while he didnt compete in HS, he did really well as a HS senior at college open tourneys. I would hope those results factor into his evals.....

Brooks is top 3 and despite the mutual talent Brooks has definitely earned a spot ahead of Joe Lee. Intermat did themselves no favors to PSU faithful with these rankings, just to many head scratchers.

On the conspiracy theories front, remember where this class was ranked by Flo Last year just as they all started to commit to PSU - At one point we hadthe #2,3,4,5 and 8 ... recruits.... something like that. The more national championships PSU wins the more Flo and Intermat try to inject some drama and ekeleva the competition Two years in a row the team has been ranked #2 up to the moment where they took down #1.

It's all good, let them monkey with the rankings in our class. In the end it just makes Cael look even more Zen like.

Don't know about any conspiracy theory, but at one point (about 1 year ago) Flo had PSU commits at #2 thru #6 - Wittlake, RBY, and Teasdale were #2 thru #4 in some order that I don't recall exactly, and Nevills and Beard were #5 and #6, or vice versa. Most of the subsequent drops in ranking are understandable, at least to some degree, as I think all the guys lost a match in tournament or all-star meet. Teasdale also lost a couple matches his senior season and of course Wittlake flipped to Okie State.

Didn't 4 or 5 of our commits lose their match at Who's #1 last year. That could have been a factor with their falling in the rankings.

How many NCAA points do you get for a high Intermat recruiting ranking? I think Brooks will be fine. :p

Congrats to Cael and staff. This is an outstanding class.

Can't wait to see these guys.

For fun, go back and read articles on Penn State's 2014 recruiting class. Here is a quote about Nolf-Nickal-Nevills from Flo:

"Penn State owes at least 3 of their 4 National Championships to the bonus points of Taylor and Ruth. Replicating that is highly unlikely, but all three of these guys are high-pace, point-scoring monsters who will get their share of bonus."

They also talk about Shak having the frame to grow into a 174 pounder :D

I'm excited for all these guys, Brooks recent results have me really excited for him in a couple years and RBY looks like he could take off once he's training regularly in Happy Valley. Exciting times ahead!

It only matters in March, time will tell

... “The big three[*] for OSU and PSU are basically a wash. The edge for PSU comes with Rasheed [#7], Cassar[UR], and Dinmore[#16].”

[*] Big 3s:
<#1 Nolf, #1 Nevills, #2 Nickal>
Vs
<#1 Snyder, #2 Micah Jordan, #2 Haines>
So, we got more guys, we got better guys, and we got more out of our guys. That’s what we do, I guess. :)

Nice article. I liked this summary of OSU vs tOSU:

The thing about Snyder that will hold is the thing about DT/Ruth that did not hold: They actually won't be able to replace the points.

Like Coach Pop, glad to see NC State recruiting well.
Those of you who follow my personal twitter account (which, amazingly, still has more than three times as many followers as my "corporate" twitter account) know that my grandmother passed away last week. I got a condolence card in the mail on Monday, signed by a good portion of the North Carolina State wrestling team and the Wolfpack RTC members, and the coaching staff, which probably tells you about as much as you need to know about Pat Popolizio and the NC State people.

I do not follow Twitter, so I had no idea. Grandmothers are great and my deepest condolences on the loss of yours.

I can't help but wonder how things would be at UNI had we chosen Popolizio or Bono over Schwab. All three were the finalists for the job. I do know that Schwab was a bit of a sentimental favorite among most, and both of his brothers are former All-Americans at UNI.

Remember when the sky was falling when Cael decided to take Nevills over Haines and then lost out on Marstellar. Looking very good right now.

He didn't lose Marstellar.
I think most of us know that. Bottom line, Marstellar gave a verbal commitment to PSU and ended up going to Oklahoma State. Many people at the time were, what is wrong with Cael losing both Haines and Marstellar who were both 4 time PA State Champions.

The NCAA success of the last few 4X PIAA state champs is interesting.

Jimmy Gulibon - 5th place finish 1X AA

Chance Marsteller - 4th place finish 1x AA

Thomas Haines - DNP no AA

I predicted Jimmy and Chance would be an NCAA champ after their senior years, while I figured Haines would be an AA. Jimmy and Chance placing 4th and 5th is nothing to scoff at, though. Chance and Haines still have a year, too.

We'll see how Gavin does.

I'm eager to see how California's rare 4 timers do, too: Justin Mejia and Seth Nevills.

Has Mejia found a home for college? from what I remember--he was going to Iowa then de-committed--then it was Illinois and something happened there im thinking grades--I do not recall hearing his final destination???

One thing that's interesting is to look back at who they beat at states, and if they dominated.

Offhand (I can't look up details on travel):
- I think Gulibon's toughest opponent was Randy Cruz (6-5 win), who was pretty good in college. IIRC not much college talent otherwise. He won most matches comfortably.
- Marsteller dominated Hershey, though his toughest opponents (Brill and Peppelman) didn't stand the test of time; for that matter, neither did his biggest regular season win (Wiercioch).
- Haines beat Boykin and Wood (2 good college wrestlers). Otherwise he dominated for 4 yrs albeit lower scores vs. the shaved bears as a SR (though he pinned the #2 PA heavy at states, who was a decent proapect but chose college football).

Of Teasdsle's opponents, Lane and Myers and maybe Clabaugh are the best college prospects. Dominant except for 2 matches, the FR OT win over Lane (which he controlled except for a headlock) and his last match. He teched Myers and majored Clabaugh.

Thanks! I am not 100% but I think something has changed--I remembering reading he had academic issues getting into Illinois.---but I could have read that on a board somewhere--and there my not be any truth to it.
After Illinois didn't happen, he tried last minute to go to Iowa again but that didn't work out either. I think he went the Juco route last year.

It's not as easy as just filling your lineup with top 10 recruits. Or slush funds. ;)
