Iowa COVID Issue

I hope the Bull recovers quickly and returns to his top form in record time. Definition of a solid individual and student athlete. It may be that he was exposed and not actually sick at all. I hope it doesn't end up shutting the team down, but at least it is now instead of March.

As much as I root against any Iowa wrestler,
if you saw the BTN show about AM his girlfriend and his best friend being killed while driving down to Iowa- such a tragedy-
AM is portrayed as amazing person.
So I will root for him to lose to any PSU wrestler, but I will be pulling for him to win against everyone else.

Flipping away from Ohio State is another check in the plus column.

Not that it's a big deal to me, but isn't Iowa naming the athlete a HIPAA violation?
If he didn't actually test positive, probably not?

But it does seem like poor form regardless. Unless something leaked out and this was their way of getting the record straight.

Did murin just say walking off the mat who's crying now....

That's classic if he did
Really classic because Carr wasn't crying. Kind of said, "I won, but remember that time I didn't and I was crying and he did the brutz baby tear wiping thing at me."

Carr should have calmly responded:

"No one. Because I don't cry when I lose matches."

It was a BTN program about University of Wisconsin wrestler, Eli Stickley. He and AM were best friends and AM is currently married to Eli's sister, Moriah. Eli was killed in a car accident. The program shows you the high character values of AM and the entire Stickley family. I have been a AM fan and will root for him with the exception of him facing a PSU wrestler. Kid is a class act and would have made a great Nittany Lion.

That one was a tearjerker. You obviously knew they were super close since Eli was supposed to be his best man but when they dive into how deep their relationship was (they were basically biological brothers and then some) and that accident was connected to what should have been Alex's initial proposal (Eli and his GF were driving up as part of the surprise) ... you will probably cry watching it.

Hope this is just a precautionary thing (like with DT) for Bull - If not, speedy and full recoveries!

Iowa Head Coach Tom Brands Tests Positive for COVID-19

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa head wrestling coach Tom Brands has tested positive for COVID-19. Brands tested positive during his regularly scheduled rapid antigen test Wednesday morning, followed by a PCR test to confirm the diagnosis.

Brands is asymptomatic and will remain home until Feb. 13. Wrestlers, coaches, and staff members are tested daily as part of the Big Ten Conference return to play protocols.

Iowa wrestles Sunday in West Lafayette, Indiana, against Purdue and Ohio State.

“Our guys are preparing for competition just as they always do. We are ready to go,” Brands said. “I will continue to work remotely. We have a good thing going and we are going to keep moving forward. Right now our focus is on Purdue and Ohio State.”

The top-ranked Hawkeyes are 3-0 this season with five Big Ten duals remaining on the schedule. The Big Ten Championships are March 6-7. The NCAA Championships are March 18-20.

I wish Tom a quick recovery...
I don't understand how they are still wrestling this weekend?
I thought if there was a positive in the program everything was paused for two weeks (17 days ?)...
Is this a school by school decision? Just trying to understand the protocols and how they are applied...

1 positive doesn't shut you down it's done by %.The rules are set by the Big 10

That makes the Bull and now Brands, I’m getting nervous about our match with them.

Yep, I would assume there may be more too. So the PSU dual looking less likely now given the time frame. Hopefully it doesn't hit anyone else there. Sucks... It's everywhere.

Bummer. If their outbreak hit March 5th, the quaratine period would wipe out both tourneys.

Just kidding, seriously!

That said it is going to be Russia roulette from here on out for every team and some will get screwed. The whole collegiate wrestling world will have their fingers crossed for the next 2 months.

At this point, it seems likely that at least one title contender is going to miss the tournament with a positive test. Fingers crossed it works out.

Wrestling is so much more vulnerable than other sports because you can't use scheme to address missing players. If you lose one guy, that could end your team title chances and there's nothing you can do about it.

Can you imagine Brands being locked up until Feb 13th? Who is that drywall guy and windows guy you all were recommending?

The first wrestler he goes with in the room on Feb 14th better not have a big date with his sweetie that night as he is going to be in traction in the hospital.
