Out of the 3 big schools:

Schwab went first- He was relatively PC. The only dig he really took was at Tom for not showing up.

Gilman went second....- He took "Fight Night" quite literally. He said we aren't dodging anyone and would wrestle Zadick, Schwab and Dresser right now, but would leave Dresser for last because he's old and crippled. Called Dresser out for leaving VT in the middle of the year and said why would you send your kids to ISU and someone with no loyalty. He went on to say that both Dresser and Schwab are just jealous because they've been passed up by their alma mater. "And oranges? I don't know anything about oranges. If Dresser was a real man he'd call us pussies". Gilman did give props to all his teammates there and current wrestlers on the roster. Started going down the list and said stopped himself "and another one I won't mention yet"... thought that was interesting. When addressing rivalries he said that he doesn't know what a rivalry is, but he knows neither of those schools are rivalries. We neat the shit out of ISU every year.

Dresser went third- Said that when he was at Iowa they worked hard and played hard. Won 9 straight titles (he has 5 rings) and that this Iowa is not THAT Iowa. It's not the same. Made a wise crack about not winning any titles in a while. He was pretty PC considering what he sat there and took from Gilman.

*extremely paraphrased, and missing quite a bit of content. The tension was THICK. Like I stated before, Giman said this was the last year the Hawks will be represented at Fight Night. He treated it as such.

I know I’ll take heat for saying this. But I have to admit, I love Gilman. He’s original, no act, in your face. And totally against the whole PC thing

And one heck of a wrestler

Quite the opposite- it is all an act. Gilman is very insecure and that is exactly why he always tears down others to build himself up. He has been in the wrestling room with Brent Metcalf thousands of times, and never once found the courage to call Brent out. Why now in a bar? Gutless little puke.

He never had a reason to call out Metcalf. Metcalf is now with the “enemy” staff led by the guy that called Brands “oranges.” Seems legit and not phony to me

I guess we simply value different things in people. Can you imagine DT or Zain saying something like this?

No I can’t. People are different. If I felt it were an act I wouldn’t like it. I genualy think Gilman in his own world with his own set of values and owns it.

That being said today is PSU Media day and I’m PUMPED! I don’t want to spend another second defending a Hawk.

I respect your opinion, I just don’t agree and that’s all good. Can’t wait till 1:30!

What a great spokesman and ambassador to the Iowa Wrestling community. This should help with their recruiting issues.

Gilman is just being Gilman. Nothing wrong with some color at an event called "Fight Night". I'd be much more worried about PD3.

I'm just the opposite although I can see the entertainment value. He's undoubtedly a very good wrestler but I can't help thinking he has a bit of a "little man" complex with all of the smack talk. He's ripping on a guy (Kevin Dresser) who has an individual NCAA title and multiple NCAA Team titles on his resume. Gilman has zero. It's asinine, especially coming from a 23 1/2 year old man.

nothing worse than a family feud

#teamhatfields vs #teamMcCoys

This is the first I'm hearing about this event, but just based on what the event is I would have thought it was supposed to be tongue in-cheek roasting of the other guys. You make some easy and light jokes at their expense and then you socialize like normal people. It really seems like Gilman has a social disorder of some sort where he doesn't understand social situations the way most people do.

There is rivalry and there is respect, and it seems like Gilman doesn't understand how to respect people.

Read the thread on the Iowa board. They seem split on the night and Gilman. From the video it looks awkward at best. But as others have said my real issue is with the damn hat.

I think they were discussing good Habadasheries in the area

I'm both glad that for the most part PSU doesn't waste breath on this kind of nonsense (winning always helps though, doesn't it?) and in the awkward position of enjoying Gilman the heel.

Wrestling wise, you gotta give the dude props for this past summer. Never thought I'd see him embarrass Nico (and almost everyone else in the world) like that.... With Daton and Spencer coming in, his reign probably won't last.

Performer-wise, I've always enjoyed a little villainy in sports-so long as the individuals are just "performing" and aren't actually bad people outside the matt/ring/field.

I also am in awe of the approach Cael and his program take every day--"grateful for the opportunity" is not just PR speak to these young men, and I love it.
