I would like to begin by saying that this Iowa team seems pretty good for Iowa. It appears to be one of the favorites for a trophy. That having been said Iowa vs PSU is an 8-2 win for the good guys. Lets look and I will try to spare the commentary.
125- Luke gets bonus points over whomever
133 Ayala gets one of two maybe one of Iowa's wins here. Our 133 bench has not proven to be there yet. I love both of our guys at this weight but like I said.
141- BB bonuses Ryder Block who looked non AA in his first match out.
149- I am a Cali wrestlers dad so the Parco's of the world get my respect and affection. And BB-SVN-Kasak have all beaten him and he is yet to beat PSU. No bonus for the good guys
157- Kasak and Alec can win here but... Iowa is the favorite no bonus
165- Caliendo is Iowa's best wrestler but until proven otherwise PSU gets bonus points here
174- Nelson Brands...sigh. How far the mighty have fallen. Levi performs a human sacrifice. Bonus points PSU
184- A healthy Carter gets a nice stretch here (nor flies on Gabe just lets get real) Bonus points good guys
197- Josh Barr gets the room edge in a tight bout no bonus points (or not hence the 8-2 hedge at the beginning)
HWT- A healthy Greg bonuses a game Hawkeye
PSU can break its own record this year with this team and this competition

Before 174 I’ll agree. However..

174: Brands has too much defense and loves a low scoring match. Levi wins but no bonus.
184: C* will remember Gabe calling him out, but see 174 above, a win but no bonus.
197: Blue and White glasses! Buchanan wins.
285: By January 31, Iowa’s RS Freshman has enough experience to avoid bonus. But Kerk still wins.

197: Fair enough I think I was trying to defend the 8-2 match prediction. It might end up 7-3.

I consider Kasak/Teemer a tossup, but the match is at PSU.

Buchanan has to be considered the favorite TODAY

Agree on 133. I like Ayala against either of our guys.

Overall, I have it 8-2 or 7-3 depending on 157.

"174- Nelson Brands...sigh. How far the mighty have fallen. Levi performs a human sacrifice. Bonus points PSU"

I thought you guys learned this lesson already?

If this is based on what we saw against Oregon State, why in the world are you giving Iowa 157?

Shouldn't it be PSU by bonus at 157 until Teamer gets on weight and actually performs.

125 PSU with bonus
133 PSU in a toss-up
141 PSU
149 PSU with bonus
157 if Kasak PSU, if Facundo Right now Iowa
165 Mesenbrink with bonus
174 Levi, despite the brick wall defense of Brands Levi will get a TD in the last 10 seconds and will bonus Brands.
184 Carter, and I expect Carter to grind out a bonus win
197 right now I will give the edge to Iowa, but by the end of January that might change.
Hwt Kerk will bonus the baby Hawk.

Either 9-1 PSU or 8-2. If Iowa has a really solid night it could be 7-3. At least 6 bonus points. So anywhere from 27-9 to 33-3.

No matter how you slice it up it will be a hooping, hollering good time in BJC.

I doubt anyone bonuses Nelson or Gabe, both are very stingy defensive wrestlers. It would take a big mistake or them deciding to try and open up to get a bonus win on them and I don't see that happening.

Pretty sure that Kasak has never wrestled Parco. Bartlett (at 149) did beat Parco (by score of 3-1) in a dual meet, but it took overtime.

As others have already stated, beating Brands b bonus is unlikely; the dude is limited offensively but also is very though to score on. I also tend to doubt that Kerk would bonus Keuter.

Overall, Iowa would likely be favored at 133, 157, and 197. So 7-3 PSU would be most likely outcome, 8-2 also possible, or 6-4 if an upset goes the other way.

So if you have IA winning, 33, 57 and 97, just curious as to what other weight you could see winning an upset.

I think we'll see Davis make a big jump this year.

They had a close match last year and I'm guessing Davis will have improved significantly more in his second year at PSU than Ayala will have in his fourth year at Iowa.
Looking at Davis recently, I'm guessing he wasn't eating much by the end of the day.

I think Ayala will be better at 133 also but I do agree Davis has more room to improve.

I understand your sentiment, but do you REALLY think it would be a big mistake for Carter to try to do anything he wants to do against whatever 184 Iowa throws out there?

Sorry, @Cstroke - I read your post incorrectly and thought you said "it would be a big mistake to try to bonus Nelson or Gabe," rather than it "would TAKE a big mistake..." - .

Old man disease again.

Parco at 149 would be the most likely upset IMO. SVN (if fully recovered from his injury) should be favored, but Parco is very good and upsets do happen. That said, 8-2 PSU may be more likely than 6-4, though 7-3 is the most likely outcome.

For some historical perspective, below are the Penn State/Iowa results during the Cael Era. (M=Matches won/lost, B=Bonus Points won/lost)

Levi winning 4-0 with Brands belly down for the last minute is easy to see. He will have riding time, 5-0. Just my opinion but it certainly doesn't take much imagination to see Levi with a second TD, 8-0.
Same math for Carter. 3 point takedowns makes big mistakes unnecessary for bonus wins.
174 and 184 will be PSU bonus wins.

Art. 7. Control of Mat Area Violation — Penalty Sequence. For the first violation and all subsequent violations, one team point shall be deducted. The referee shall indicate the control of mat violation by displaying the control of mat violation signal and verbally informing the offending coach of the violation.

Is it my imagination or have the Barnds brothers match side antics gotten a little better the last year or so? Maybe I am just used to them doing it and it doesn’t register as much on me.

Several things have happened over the past 15 years.
First was Brands' bug windshield moment. Cael's first B10 tournament and Brands stormed the mat to yell and scream at Cam Wade. Brands looked up and saw big, bald, bad, dude standing an arm's length away telling him to sit down. Brands scamper back to his corner, circled behind his assistant coaches and yapped at the big, bald, bad dude. When ask about it after the tournament Cael answered it was nothing. It was about to be a bug meets windshield moment and he understood that.
Second, the twins behavior was so bad at the Philly nationals they were called onto the carpet.
Third, Beth Goetz isn't a fan of their antics and has pulled the reins in a bit.

With Keuter is the last of 10 straight pins, Brands takes off his shoe, twists it in a frenzy and then spikes it to the mat, where it bounces and then ricochets off the the ref's head. 1 penalty point to complete the perfect day.

I was not aware Conner Euton had top end talent. He lost to Hunter Garvin 10-3.

Mesenbrink is going to murder this current version of Caliendo
Probably not in the dual meet. Brands knows he's underpowered and the match will be at Penn State this year. He'll use the same strategy that he used the last time they came to Penn State. Guys who have a chance to win will open up and guys like Caliendo who are overmatched will stall as much as possible without being DQ'd. You really can't blame Brands for going that route. It's his best chance to keep the score close and maybe, by some miracle, they can pull off an upset.

While possible, Caliendo is anything but a staller. He always mixes it up with Mitch and is just overmatched and thus gets bonused.

I sure as heck hope we don't stall again this year against Iowa like we did last year when we won 29-6. That type of stalling was a stain on our name. 🤣
