BS survives a thriller 9-5 against Alex Kocer , it was much closer than that score indicates. BS looked a little tired to me.

Kemmerer Dec Colin Holler 7-3, Kemmerer never in any real danger here.

Joey Gunther Dec Luke Zilverberge 6-4

Alex Meyer Dec David Kocer 4-0 Can't recall if Meyer ever took a shot. Kocer in twice and gave up a TD after one of those.

Sammy Brooks TF Martin Mueller 20-5 Brooks was aggressive, and got several back points.
Nate Rotert Dec Cash Wilcke 8-5

As I'm watching this Brian Murphy gets pinned by Josh shields in CK

Steven Holloway Dec Alex Macki 3-2 Lots of action at the end, close match with Iowa stalling in the third.

Thomas Gilman TF Ben Gillette 26-11 Gilman looked really good, had a scary moment when Gillette almost had a defensive fall.

Seth Gross TF Phil Laux With CC out that is a serious drop off for the Hawks. Call me Mr. Obvious.

Topher Carton up 2-0 already. Wins by Mdec 12-1

4,087 in attendance
Iowa Wins 29-8

Anybody (i.e. AZChief) know the stories with:
Marinelli weighing in? Not sure what to make of that. Are they pulling his redshirt or leaving it?
Gilman instead of going to the center of the mat during introductions to shake the hand of the SDSU starter instead runs over to the SDSU bench and shakes some random. What was the point of that?
Is Laux gonna be the fill in for Clark? Is Clark sounding more of a long term injury? Any confirmation? Feel bad for the kid...

Gilman seems to be wired differently

I don't know what's more surprising, that the Iowa coaches continue to allow him to do that or that someone from the opposing team hasn't decked him yet.

Yeah. Seems like classless grandstanding more befitting pro wrestling, IMO.

Damn good wrestler, though.

I have thought exactly this for some time. I love watching TG wrestle and he is a really good guy to boot. I think he loves the bad boy persona so much he needs to do this stuff for himself. I thought Iowa wrestled well as a team and showed toughness on the road. SDSU is a rapidly improving program.

I think without Clark this team is looking at 3-5 place at NCAA, but hopefully Cory is going to be back and healthy soon. Cash Wilke is a pretty tough young guy. He looks a little small at 197, but he has fight and moves really well.

Without Clark, I don't think Iowa can finish in the top 5. There are some real holes in that lineup that haven't shown themselves yet. Getting Stoll back healthy will help, but 133, 141, 165, and 197 are going to be a problem to one degree or another and I'm not convinced Brooks or Meyer will do much better then last year. Aside from Gilman, who is going to score bonus? I'm just not seeing a top 5 team without him.

you could be correct. I think 157 and 285 will both add a little bonus early in the tournament, and TG will bonus through quarters at least. I also, after talking to a SEP parent, believe Cory will be back perhaps even as soon as the Midlands but certainly by the PSU dual. Sounds like it is something in the shoulder and will probably return with a brace/tape job.

Always thought he was a "mini-Evans". Except he has a slightly better chance at winning a title in his career.

Gilman has too much forward movement and scoring in his wrestling to be anything close to a mini Evans.

And im just expressing mine. Try to not blow cold smoke in my face
Not sure why you would believe Tiger expressing an opinion that if the Hawks lose a potential; 20+ points from their NCAA team score the result may a team finish not in the top 5 is a hateful statement. Not being a jerk or anything here, but without Clark at 133 and a good tournament from Missouri and Virginia Tech or any other 3rd team the Hawks are going to hard pressed to get into the top 5.

I hope the kid heals and is ready to roll come post season. To miss any last shot due to Illness or injury just flat out sucks.

Why are you such a hater nit? :D

Turk, just calling it as I see it. Clark is ranked #1 at 133. His absence from the lineup will most likely reduce Iowa's NCAA total by at least 20 points. That is a big hit that will put them behind OSU, Penn State and tOSU for sure and then possibly behind VA Tech and/or Missouri. Sorry if this annoys you but it is what it is.

LIke nit said, hopefully Clark heals up and makes this discussion irrelevant.

btw turk, if you subtract 20 points from Iowa's tournament ranking on Intermat, they drop to 5th. How's that for cold smoke in your face ;)

I was mainly referring to his behavior. It's very, very close. So close. Unbelievably close. Believe me.

Turk,
Not sure what you think I have in mind when I am posting about Iowa and their wrestlers, but generally speaking its respect.
Iowa wrestling fans? I have respect for your love of the sport and the way when someone yells "hey, there's a wrestling match" you all show up in droves to support the sport and your wrestlers. However, I do enjoy bantering with and poking fun as much as possible.

With that said. With Cory and his 20 or so points I figure the Hawks finish behind the Nits, Pokies and Nature Nuts. Without Cory's points you are't making any run at a title and falling behind Missouri and VaTech (at least b4 each of those 2 teams had injured wrestlers today) is not out of the realm of real possibilities.

That ain't hatin son, that's only discussin.
