Iowa week .....over before it started???

As I understand it anyone can compete at the conference tourney. If they win one of the allocated spots they are in.

The 4 matches addresses a wrestler who cannot compete in the conference tourney. If they have wrestled 4 matches they can still be considered for an at-large bid.

Don't take this as fact though ... just my best guess.
Thanks! that makes thing a little more clear, if of course this is the rule.

does anyone have a link to the conference rules for this post season? I have heard a lot of rumor's concerning the 4 match rule as well as at large bids...

So if Howard does not get 4 matches he can not compete?
The word has it that G.Kerkfliet will be released by Big10--with no matches can he compete?

No, the latest Release by the NCAA clearly says they (wrestlers with <4 starts) can compete. It says any wrestler with <4 starts would only be guaranteed a Conference Allocation spot if they win the Conference Chapionship. The Conference doesn't have to give a wrestler with <4 starts an Allocation spot even if they finish within the Allocated spots, except if they win the Championship. It doesn't say the Conference can't give the Allocation spot, just that they don't have to give it to any wrestler with <4 starts except for a wrestler winning the Conference Chapionship. But they are permitted to wrestle in B1G Tournament.

I think the whole thing reeks of a DeSanto plot to avoid RBY.
Will it now be a decade since Iowa wrestled in Rec hall? Guessing we'll have to travel to IC next year :p

I agree with the thought that how long has it been since Iowa wrestled in state college. A long time.

I thought this was an Onion parody when I first read it...is it???

I believe so. The details are here.

Given the team they have this year, they ain't ducking.
Just kidding you all. I was looking forward to the matches. Hope we have a NCAA championship this year and all remain healthy. Would be real nice if Iowa could eventually travel back to Rec Hall for matches

When is the last time Iowa was in a packed Rec Hall? One of my most fervent wishes is to introduce this batch of Hawkeyes to the best live wrestling experience in the nation. ;)

The governor is a friend of TR Foley’s. He’s determined to make Iowa more deadly than Tehran. Hmmm... I wonder how many weeks it’s been since Foley promised to do something ... :)

No, it was 2018. BIG rotation is Iowa (and every other school except tOSU for that matter) wrestles at PSU every third year. Nothing to look at here except Iowa bashing.

The last time we let them. Last two Iowa duals at PSU were in the BJC, but that was OUR choice, not Iowa's. Yunz need to give the Iowa bashing a rest. JMHO.

If you leave conference weekend with less then 4 matches and you don't win the conference tournament your not going to the NCAA.

Correct, based on the current rules. However, with the amount of postponed (OK really cancelled) duals I would not be surprised if the NCAA dropped that requirement. What a screwy messed up season we have here, although if we do have an NCAA tournament in the end I guess it is better than last season.

Not sure they change it the only conferences you worry about not getting enough matches would be the ACC and PAC but looking at those teams guys seem to have enough matches already. The other conference tournaments brackets should be big enough that you would wrestle 4 matches to earn one of the allocated spots

Chances of this happening are remote for guys who place within the B10 auto-qualifier allotment.

B10 championship bracket = 4 rounds. Finalists with an opening bye get 3 matches, but guys with 0-0 records are not getting waived thru Round 1.

Guys in the 7th/8th place match could get only 3 matches -- but that requires a bye (either in Round 1 or in first-round consis). Last year 3 guys had this path thru the brackets: 184-7, 184-8, and 285-7. (I'm too lazy to cross-compare that vs. # allocations at each weight.)

Everybody else gets 4+ matches in the B10 Tournament.

Iowa still owes a date though.

We visited Iowa in the 2012/2013 season, a year we were not scheduled to meet. Brands has had 2 opportunities since to reciprocate (2015/16 and 2018/19), but has not.

Maybe next year.

You most definitely implied that Iowa hadn't wrestled in Rec Hall because they were ducking that event. If that was not your intent then I apologize.
I most definitely did not... (I don't generally like to engage in that sort of thing, honestly--tend to skip the threads the focus on it too)... :)

I was:
  1. Wondering how long it had been since they had been in Rec (thanks for the answer--Google can go suck an egg).
  2. Expressing my desire to experience a dual w/ the "top dog" under my favoritest of circumstances. I know full well why it hasn't happend, but hey, a guy can dream....

Got it. Unfortunately it will now be 2024 before they return, and even that dual will quite probably be in the BJC.

was it wen JimmG beat Clarke?

I know that RBY cradled him 2x in one match and then controlled him in the next meeting but this is a bit extreme to avoid another loss in the series.😂
That being said I hope everyone is ok, but you have to wonder about tOSU and Purdue this week as they were with Iowa at the tri meet the day before the pause for Iowa.

Heard they had another one as well. For a total of 5
That makes the next bout of the rona even worse because those 5 are removed from the pool.

The next shut down could be with 3 guys depending on many previously tested that we might now know about.

That's scary.

Psu in same boat I presume

To-date, there have been 48 dual meets scheduled. 39, or 81% have happened. Of the nine that have not, three are Penn State duals (our fourth postponement will happen this weekend).

As sad as I am to say this, it is a near certainty that there will be top wrestlers unable to compete at NCAA's due to the pandemic. My belief is to stay positive, which many have done so far, but to have the number of postponements that we are seeing this late in the season does not bode well. Still hopeful, time will tell.

To give some idea of who has missed the most, below is the current B1G standings.

Unfortunately, I suspect this will prove to be an understatement. Even assuming we make it to Nationals with enough teams to compete, I have a feeling that the pressure to cancel will be too great if 2 or 3 top teams are sidelined.

Imagine if any 3 from the group of PSU, Iowa, Michigan, Virginia Tech, ASU, Okie State, and NC State are out of commission. The asterisk next to the resulting team and individual titles would be so big as to dwarf the accomplishment. I pray I'm wrong, but I foresee Nationals suffering the same fate as the 1994 World Series.
