Vasquez-Silva 132 semifinal was something and was wrestled at the highest athletic and technical levels. Silva win in OT. Wow
Yep. If Vasquez wasn't already on every D1 coach's radar, he is now.
Not a wrestling recruit, but PSU football recruit PJ Mustipher is in the semi's. He just won 3-0 and will wrestle Colton Shultz in the finals

I don't know if Willie told the whole story, but Seth got jacked around in a big way. He had picked up a skin infection and went to a dermatologist to get it treated. The dermatologist provided him with a signed letter stating that Seth was ok to compete. The doctor doing the skin checks refused to acknowledge the recommendation from the dermatologist and said he wouldn't give Seth the OK without seeing the results from a culture sample. Of course that was impossible at that time.
The tournament director even tried to intervene for Seth but the doctor wouldn't change his decision. Seth and his parents flew all the way out there for nothing. I'll bet that someone from Penn State was there too. Don't be surprised if Tirapelli never goes there again.
I saw this exact same scenario happen in WA at the state tournament. The doctor doing the skin checks DQd a wrestler even though he had a letter from his own doctor saying he was ok. That caused the wrestler's team the state title because they finished just a few points short.

The chance for those two to meet almost got derailed. In the semis Teske was down 5-3 with under 5 seconds left when he scored 4 points to win 7-5.
Understatement of the week. Tirapelle is about as hot as a f-ed fox in a forest fire. And not just about Snacks -- he's blistering the refs, comparing them to a JV wrestler trying to compete at Ironman.
Yeah, I'd rate the chances of Clovis returning to Ironman as maybe just slightly higher than me getting a D1 full ride athletic scholarship.
That's to bad for big guy. What can a guy do but have Dr note saying he's been treated and cleared? We have used Dr notes many times with not to much problems.

Most state governing bodies have a form that must be filled out by the doctor. What Crop indicated for MN is the same in PA, and most other states. A doctor's note does not cut it in those states -- the form must be properly filled out. The skin checks are performed by the ref, who is not a doctor or a skin specialist, so they look for things on the skin that seem unusual, and check that the forms are properly filled out (including when the form is valid for, and the date after which the wrestler can compete, etc.).
Tournaments, especially those that attract a lot of out-state teams, create problems. Weigh-ins and skin checks for tournaments are a PITA. For duals in PA, weigh-ins have to be completed 1 hour before the competition. So for V/JV matches, both teams and both squads (V & JV) are weighed in by the ref about 1.5 hours before the start of the JV dual, and the skin checks are done at the same time. Tournaments have a lot of wrestlers, so the process is done a bunch of different ways. In many cases, the skin check component of the process is conducted by a doctor that is contracted to do that for the tournament, and either the refs, or the tournament staff, conduct the weigh-ins. Generally, the tournament provides each team with rules as to what type of forms are needed for skin issues. I tried to look up the Ironman rules online, but could not find that.
I do sympathize with Snacks, his parents, and his coach. Even with proper forms, a tournament doctor has the final say. A doctor's note (i.e., not a state form) is not accepted for duals in most states, and even if accepted for a tournament it would never trump the tournament doctor.
I know Bonney is always solid and has stud little guys right now. Thought one of there guys had skin issues last year. We are from east side. My boy wrestles for Deer Park

If a designated on-site meet appropriate health care professional is present, he/she may overrule the diagnosis of the appropriate health care professional signing the medical release form for a wrestler to participate or or not participate with a particular skin condition."
As a parent, I would not be happy if I relied on the form from a Dr., PA or certified registered nurse practitioner only to get flagged at the scales at weigh-ins 2,000 miles away.
