Is there any recruiting news ?

or does that not happen until October / November

3 months old, but I think this was the last big fish:

One good way to check in on likely recruiting targets/verbals/commits is to check @dicemen99's google spreadsheet linked to in this pinned thread:

If you aren't up on Wrestling recruiting, the pace is quite a bit slower than football--with only 9.9 scholarships, even elite programs like ours aren't likely to land more than say 3 big names a year.

Expect middle weights to be the target of 2021. Perhaps a late bloomer in 2020 (Zargo?, Matt Lee?)

Middle Weights
Herrera-Rondon (141-157)- We'll see if he adjusts to his weight jump a little better than he did this summer. Still a huge fan. Apparently mutual interest with this kid.

Not sure about the interest level of these dudes, but they make up the rest of my target list (in order). Plenty of 2022 options, so PSU can be picky.

  • Victor Voinovich (149/157)- No-brainer, though his folk results don't exactly approach the level of his FS accomplishments.
  • Maximo Renteria- Perhaps wishful thinking, but I think he grows into a 149
  • Teague Travis (149/57)- Frame to fill out. Really talented. Not a great Fargo, however.
  • Shayne Van Ness- Unfortunately, I don't see him growing past 133/141. Could find a spot if Howard stays at 125 though.
If they recruit a 125, give me Dean Peterson over Stevo Poulin

This seems about right.

2020: Lee is probably the biggest name remaining that we're likely to land. Officially have a toe in the water with Amos and Edmond, and never say never with Cael, but both seem unlikely. Maybe Ulrey if he recruits PSU hard -- but haven't heard of any interest, and Cael is rightly high on Starocci.

After that, we're looking at quality depth guys like Blumer.

2021 and 2022 are very loaded years, especially in the middle weights, and that's where we'll have the greatest need.

2021: What LemonPie said. Especially about being picky -- Crookham and Bouzakis are both in 2022 (and Bouzakis just transferred to Seminary).

Manville also comes into play with the family tie.

One other name -- Kyle Haas (Kansas). Was at 182/195 this year, Willie thinks he's a HWT. Having a monster summer. Clearly not a need, but looks like a guy you go after anyway. Hearing Nebraska is in on him, but don't think he's committed.

2022: The obvious names are Crookham and Bouzakis. Bennett Berge is having a good offseason, but is much bigger than Brady (maybe a 184?).

This is a very good year for the big boys -- Pettigrew and Pitzer at 197, Shumate and Franklin at HWT. Also a good time to pick up a 125 as Howard Growth Insurance, and whaddayaknow, there's David Taylor protege Levi Haines. Erik Gibson (165?) is a guy who's already very good in folk and better still in freestyle.

I was under the impression that Kyle Haas was a lock for OkSt since his older brother is Tyler Caldwell who is the recruiting coordinator for the Cowboys.

We need Willie to land Crookham for us ;)

I was unaware of that -- if so, that would be a big hurdle. Then again, that didn't stop Cael from going after Fix and BoJo. Or maybe Haas likes to eat.

Do you think anyone made a home visit with JoJo Smith? That sounds like a sitcom premise.

Shumate plans on going 195 in college. That’s not a guess.

Of course anything can happen but the way the post was structured, it was specific to what weight classes to recruit and and Shumate will not be going somewhere a program is recruiting a HWY, he’s going where there’s s need at 197.
