Is this the most confident you have been heading into a PSU-um game?

Lots of confidence here based on our play versus um’s this season, plus of course whiteout hype (remembering the 2017 ASS. BEATING. ). I’m not normally too confident ahead of these games, but I think we win big tomorrow. Franklin and the team appear to be focused, and I don’t think um is feeling so confident.

Great question, and yes. Can't remember the last time I felt this good before the matchup with them.

More confident in 2017. Mostly because our offense was so high-powered, and you just knew they'd explode on Michigan after the 2016 humiliation. Plus, who could possibly fear Jack O'Korn?

I'm a bit nervous for tomorrow night. 2017 was never in doubt.
I am not confident. This offense needs to get untracked against a defense like this for me to have confidence about the rest of the season. Can our OL handle UM's blitz from everywhere defense? We will have to see.

I’m never confident before any game. Ever. It sucks to be me.
Ditto this. That said, I was confident in 2017 but IIRC the announcers made it seem like PSU was playing the greatest defense in the history of college football, so maybe I bought into the hype. Although it was reasonably close at halftime. This year, I'm feeling somewhat confident, but then again, it's Michigan. They're not gonna lay down. I'll say 7 out of 10 on the confidence meter.

Honestly, the only teams I feel confident in B1G play each season is 'Rutgres'. Never been one to be over confident. Even when I competed in sports, I prepared the best I could and played/ran knowing I prepared but never underestimated my competition.

Yup. 2017 wasn’t really expected to be a contest. I think most recognize this UM team is more dangerous than the 2017 iteration.

I felt more confident in 2017. This UM team is a little more unpredictable bc of new offense. If their players suddenly get it... by contrast in 2017 UM offense just sucked and was not getting better.

I'm pretty confident but PSU could have some problems with the UM D.

Well, the USATODAY staff just went 6 - 6, all six picking PSU!

IIRC, they went 5 - 6 picking PSU over Iowa last week.

I remember in my youth feeling that nobody could beat Penn State - circa 1968. Of course, back in the day you had to use more of your imagination listening to the games on radio. Perhaps once or twice a season the Nittany Lions would appear on TV... and even then you'd have to use you imagination to visualize the color of those "boring uniforms" while watching the games on Black & While TV. Hopefully it was broadcast locally and wouldn't have to climb up on the roof to adjust the antennas and try to pick-up the broadcast from outside the Pittsburgh area.

I used to really let my imagination run wild... it was around the time I was also learning American history in greater detail. I would visualize a big game like it was the second reenactment of Gettysburg during the Civil War - especially when it was a southern team we were playing, like Miami. In my mind I was drawling "the line" in the dirt... Come on up to Pennsylvania - Rebel, and we'll kick your ass again! And it seemed like we usually did back in Paterno's early years.

Those were the days. But I think we are on the cusp of GREATNESS once again... do I dare dream of even being GREATER???

See, I always worst-case scenario these things ahead of games.......I need to cut that shit out, but what can I say? I live to be pleasantly surprised.

In this case, my fear is that Michigan FINALLY puts it all together and shocks the world to achieve Harbaugh's signature win. All this talk about 11 straight losses to top-10 teams, a terrible offense, a ruined season if they lose on Saturday, Harbaugh on the hot seat, etc.........it sets up for a storybook victory for UM against impossible odds. UM then goes on to beat Notre Dame, beat Michigan State, and host Ohio State for all the marbles.

Now, the objective, neutral observer would say, "ah, but Penn State has storylines, too. Avenging last year's game. Franklin proving that he can win big games. A young, hungry team looking for national respect, etc." And objectively, being 9 point favorites sounds about right.

But I'm a worry wart, so here I am.....nervous as all hell.

Take the points, bet your 401K.

Football is a strange game played with a strangely-shaped ball. So many of these games come down to one simple play, one lucky bounce, one unpiling after a fumble, one pass deflection. And of course whether a phantom penalty is called or an obvious penalty ignored.

Teams have to be good.....AND.....teams have to be lucky.

PSU brings their “A” game, UMich doesn’t, could be a huge win. But the opposite can happen too.....you just never know.

On any given day or night.....that’s why they play the game.

But I like our chances.....and so does Fonzie!

If you get Fonzie to bite O'Neil....I personally guarantee the board will pay your legal fees.

I've got no beer, no food, no plan at all. I've never felt less ready for a game.

I wish the Board would organize a billboard similarly to Detroit Lions fans after the NFL totally screwed them this past week.

There were billboards showing an NFL referee wearing a cheesehead.....very creative.

No.

Not even close....those RichRod years when you knew we were gonna clean their clocks

Our record vs. Dick Rod: 3-0. DickRod brought that WVU "magic" vs. Joe and the LIons from Morgantown to Ann Arbor.

Too bad we didn't play Meatchicken in 2011 and 2012 when Brady Hoke was their coach. PSU's record vs. big, bad Brady: 1-1 in 2013 and 2014.

I knew two years ago....we were gonna light them up. 42-13. That was so much fun.

I was feeling good about this game, but now some of you have me feeling not so sure.

Damn it. :(

No. Not based on the Iowa game

No. Felt more confident during the RichRod/Tate Forcier days.

IIRC, Forcier originally committed to PSU but flipped to Michigan. Some here were ready to jump off a cliff. It's a great example of why nobody should go crazy over not landing a particular recruit.

Two years ago as I was leaving work I ran in to a Michigan fan... I made the comment "we're gonna kill you guys tomorrow"...... I'm more confident than that game.... We are gonna hammer UM. We might go into the 50's..

I hope those with super confidence are right, but I'm not that confident. I just want a win, and no injuries.

Cheer up Bob! Have a latte, pick up some tongs and everything will be okay!
Now here’s hoping the guys deal out a real ASS BEATING tomorrow night!:D:D

I remember that feeling back in the 80s

I felt like no matter who we played we were going to go out there and bust them one right in the mouth

I don't have much confident in the offense. I think Cain as a full time starter will really improve it but dose t look like that will happen.
Defense will suffocate Michigan.

Bingo.
I am right there with you, Rick.
I keep hearing all the hype about 9 point favorite. My fear is they will get there act together offensively and control the ball.
And, as I have been since 1995, this OL concerns me.
Now last week I thought we would handle the environment okay, and play with swagger. I wasn’t accurate there, so let’s hope I’m wrong this week as well.

OL

I'm not very confident in this game. I think we will win, but I could see a bad scenario where this is close at halftime because of lack of offense and worst case scenario a dogfight into the 4th quarter. Hoping we have some new stuff though offensively to jump on them early. Defensively though, best team in Franklin era.
