To be fair, while Bama fans can be a little out there, I've personally had nothing but positive experiences interacting with them the past 3 years as a Penn Stater with a son at UA. In fact, I'd go as far as saying Bama fans have been nothing but welcoming in person, and cordial on social media, whenever I bring up PSU, which I do a lot. I think they get it.

Looks like fun to me.

We aren’t allowed to have such fun. Imagine if we dressed like Joe at one of our games. We’d be stoned in the town square, for starters. president barren would probably issue a public statement condemning the behavior. The media would tell the world that Penn State “still doesn’t get it”.

My father in law, who took many a road trip for Penn State games, always said the best fans he ever met on the road were Alabama fans.

Living here in the heart of SEC country I echo what "ouirpsu" said. All of my interactions with Bama fans have been very cordial and classy. IMO, it's funny how all of the other SEC schools hate Bama fans for the same reason .... "they are so arrogant". Ask a fan of Georgia or Auburn or LSU or Florida or Tenn what they think of Bama, and they'll reply with "I hate Bama.... their fans are so arrogant". Which I find totally comical because those fans are pretty arrogant in their own ways and they did NOT win 16 National Championships. I usually shut them up with a reply like "Well, imagine how you guys would be if you all won 16 national championships". That instantly shuts them up because they realize that they would probably be 100x's worse.

Relatively speaking. Considering they've won 16 national championships. Have about 9 zillion past All-Americans, Have multiple Heisman Trophy winners, Have about 90 SEC Championships... considering all of that, I actually think relatively speaking their fans are kind of in line.

When we were down there in 2010 their fans treated us great. Even had commemorative shirts made for the game and everything.

Guys, I’m not saying all alabama fans are horrible people like we all are. No. Just the ones who put alabama football above all else.

Bob, To be fair. I think there are fans of EVERY team that "put __________ football above all else". Not just Bama. I agree, that some fan bases in general are more passionate than others. For example, Bama/SEC fans tend to be way more passionate about their team and college football than say USC/Pac12 fans. In general, the Southeast and schools like Bama, Georgia, LSU, Florida ... tend to be way more passionate. But I'd be willing to bet that you could find a good amount of USC fans who put USC football above all else.

It’s more benign when it comes to college. 40 - something NFL fans who paint their faces, dress up in elaborate costumes, sit in late summer heat for a few hours before a game and scream at the players from the stands in a vain attempt to get their attention are a little more seriously disturbed.

I have done a ton of business in Alabama. They loved Joe and Penn State.
I have a friend who was a big shit at Alabama. He always said “ we want to be like PSU.” They admired how Joe used football to make a better University.
Alabama has done a good job following that model.

True, but we do it better than any other fan base, apparently.

Sadly, PSU’s “leadership” decided they didn’t want PSU to be like PSU. I’m not sure who they want us to be like now.

I miss JoePa.

I agree one thousand percent.
I have no clue who we are as we slip down academically.
I miss Joe everyday.

My experiences with Alabama fans have been nothing but positive. And they seem to have great respect for PSU fans. But it is easy to be cordial when you win the match up most of the time.

The state government of Alabama has spent tons of money on the University to the detriment of other colleges and needs. I don't think that is a model that Paterno would be happy with.

I used to say PSU was a cult. That ended in 2011. Now I'm just a football fan with a PSU degree.
When Smeal calls for a donation, I tell the poor kid that supporting an organization that won't stand up for itself is a waste of money and to please not call me back until the university takes a position to denounce the NCAA sanctions and "findings" in the Freeh report.

Get a life.
I have one of the most successful lives, careers, family and friends of anyone.
To many of us Joe was more than a Coach is was a teacher.
I doubt there are many days that go by that I don’t remember words from my late Father, or my late brother, or any number of teachers or mentors that I have had.
Kappish?

I worked with the guy who brought Mercedes to Alabama. They used the
University a an example of excellence to convince the Germans to bring
Mercedes to Alabama. Alabama is a far cry from where it once was.
It continues to suck in education at the public school level, but there was a time that it was a complete shithole.

Those who equate PSU with Paterno are thankfully a dying breed.

My son and his friends used my tickets for the Idaho game. They are in their mid twenties. They put flowers on Joe’s grave on their way to the game. BTW, my son has a grad degree from Pitt in Public Health and am undergrad from NYU. His friends went to various colleges or the military. They loved Joe for what he was.

I am a full and proud member in what you call a cult.

No sense trying to reason with losers like this.Take note of when he joined BWI.
-Success with honor wasn't a marketing play. You only need to listen to countless lettermen, like Lavar Arrington, to hear the message of JVP.
-Paterno held NFL-caliber players out of bowl games for missing ONE class. He routinely put the well-being of young men ahead of football success.
-Penn State is the only university with a Stadium named after a University president and a library named after a football coach.

To forget or suggest any of this is not worth remembering is tragic and disgusting. Osprey Lion is lucky that this board is not a dark alley. I doubt he'd make it out alive.

When Joe came to Penn State it was a backwater.

60 plus years later it has unbelievable facilities, it has a huge research base, it ranks among the top public universities, and it has the largest alumni base in the nation.

Everyone knows Joe was the public face for much of the activity like fund raising, business recruitment, even academic investments.

Time is coming, and soon, when his memory is praised and his accomplishments are once again memorialized.

I don’t want to speak for Bob, but I think that is the point. The two most gracious fan bases I have ever encountered are Bama (except when Auburn fans are near) and PSU fans. We were absolute vilified by the ****tards in the media for revering a guy who represented everything good in college football. No one questions Bama fans continued love affair with Bear. It’s a massive double standard.

Completely agree. Bama fans have a ton of respect for Joe and Penn State. Everyone I have met since 2011 has said Joe got railroaded...also great comment from a co-worker and Bama fan; "Another great thing about Alabama and Penn State, as soon as you see them on TV you know exactly who is playing."

The 3 most important people to PSU's rise were Bryce Jordan, Joe Paterno, and Graham Spanier. The 'leadership' betrayed two of them

The Cult of the Houndstooth Trilby engages in bizarre rituals involving charring the flesh of dead animals and consuming mind-altering liquids and then singing hymns and engaging in group chants while worshiping controlled violence between young men wearing sacred colors inside a giant concrete temple.

The whole thing is twisted.

At least they don’t boo! That would be wrong.
