It' an honor to have Game Day on Campus. I hope the idiots amon

I don't have a problem with your rant and I understand what you are saying. But at some point, you have to move on, not for your sake but for the sake of the students and teams on campus. The majority of these students and student-athletes weren't even on campus in 2011. I'm just saying that the kids worked hard and succeeded despite all of that and if media wants to bring that to national attention, use them to do it. It says far more about them that they are now drooling over our kids after wanting to shut down the program, than it does about us promoting the school. I realize there are some that don't feel the same way.

I think its admirable that ESPN will come and celebrate PSU's return from scandal and disdain, that they had a major role in creating and perpetuating.
How sporting of them!

How would Mauti or Zordich represent PSU around the gameday set? Bitter and angry? I doubt it.

I really dont see gameday spending much time talking about the scandal or taking any shots with hundreds of PSU fans behind them. Getting the Delany trophy presentation treatment would not make for a good show.

Perhaps you should put highly subsidized in quotes because I've paid full out of state tuition for both. I am not a PSU alum nor have I ever lived in the state of PA to get that subsidized education you speak of.
Very telling....you're not an alum, so why don't you walk a mile in any of our shoes before you come on here and preach about what's fair and right and just plain dumb? Again, appreciate your pacifism, but your hypocrisy is now apparent.

With each and every post you are gradually "exposing yourself". It isn't favorable.

Aww, poor thing. There's nothing to expose. I'm an open book. My kids are Penn Staters, I support them and the other students and student-athletes. I hated the scandal and all that came with it and couldn't wait for the whole mess to be over with. It's been 6 years, court trials have been held. Men were held accountable ( rightly or wrongly) and I'm ready to move on. I love my family, friends, and live a pretty darn good life. You should try it some time.

ESPN probably played a smaller role than you think. I'd imagine bigger networks CNN, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS played a much bigger role in getting national attention on the scandal. Also add in print media and online media while you are at it. My point is, that story was EVERYWHERE. It is pointless to try and put blame on one media outlet when it was such a widespread storyline for months. And yes, they ALL reacted the same and they all tried to trump each other's outrage. Believe me, I get it. But you have to know that you're not going to win with the media because eventually they always control the narrative. Even the great things happening with the team are being promoted by this very media.

I'm not absolving any network, but it isn't "any" network coming to PSU this weekend.

Gameday being on campus is a sign that the Sandusky scandal is behind us and everyone has moved forward. Bringing a bunch of stupid signs that will accomplish nothing won't help the school or program.
It's about ESPN getting ratings while not promoting a different game on NBC.

Yep and maybe he'll take a heart attack to go along with his stroke and finally have some respect for himself and get the ef off the air. When you can no longer speak coherently it's time to stop being a ESPN shill...

Nice work.

No kidding. ESPN is a corporation whose sole motivation is profit.

However, being in Happy Valley is best for their ratings because the team is doing so well. That it is tribute to the team who has carried itself with dignity and respect from the day the scandal started. As fans, we should follow their lead. Over time, the only way to change perception is though classy behavior by PSU Fans and PSU Football players. If you think otherwise, then I do not know where you have been since 1966.

Right because that has worked since 2011. Everyone has treated us so well when we are classy.

ESPN is not "just a television network" It is a major college football network that is providing a great opportunity to showcase our university, football team.students and fans!

It's not only a great college football network but a great sports network. Over the years, it
has given people like me a chance to see many more PSU games than would have
been possible if they didn't exist. In addition to major sports, they cover the NCAA
Wrestling Tournament and other so called minor sports. Those wishing for ESPN's demise
are either not real sports fans or so blinded by their hatred that they are willing
to cut of their nose to spite their face.

Help me out. I’m trying to determine if you’re :
  1. Dumber-than-dirt, or
  2. Genetically pre-disposed to the “stupid gene”, or
  3. An employee of PSU or ESPN

No--you're a miserable person who has a hardon for a former coach that's been dead for about 5 years. You and others of similar ilk probably bow towards McKee Street at least 5 times per day.

Look, the national media was horrible to Penn State. We all know it and there's no point in pretending otherwise. ESPN was among those outlets who repeated falsehoods.

Do you know who else did? ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, and NBC. Each of those programs has a morning show and live shots of crowds. Why don't you and your merry band of idiots who think they're proving a point take your 409 signs and stand in front of their cameras? Are you all too lazy to do it, or what?

Instead, idiots like you will go to Gameday, which should be about the current kids and current team, and try to prove a point. The battle was lost in 2011/2012, the narrative isn't changing, never has, and never will. It serves no purpose to put on a public display of idiocy like some are planning.

Not gonna happen. I'd almost be willing to bet my house on their story line and it's gonna go from Sandusky to big ten champs to # 2 in the nation.

Absolutely that will be the story line. It pretty much writes itself....
In the wake of the Sandusky scandal, the firing of JVP, and the harshest penalties levied since SMU, most thought PSU football would take at least a decade to recover.
Enter James Franklin, a man with tremendous energy and passion, a great recruiter and a man who exceeded expectations at Vandy.
3 Top ranked recruiting classes despite all the headwinds, and In just his 3rd year, he won a B1G championship and now has his team at 6-0 and ranked #2

The only question is how much air time they have to fill and how deep they go into flushing out the narrative

Their demise is happening...and I'm all for it. Others have come along in its wake and do a much better job presenting sports to the public. ESPN WAS a good network....it hasn't been for a long time (with the exception of the occasional game, I stopped watching long before the scandal).

How about this. Just don’t show up if you hate ESPN.

I despise them, all of them save a few. Worst of the worst in sports journalism. Ivan Maisel may be the only one I like.

I will cheer on their demise, front row.

But ya know what, signs bringing up crap from 6 years ago does us no good now. It won’t cause people to rethink their position. It won’t anger ESPN and it most likely won’t get on air. If it does, it won’t be readable.

By showing up, you are just showing you think ESPN is important enough for your time.

That's my plan. Meeting up with old friends near Beaver Stadium.

It was six years ago, let it go... What's a sign going to do about now. My ex-girlfriend is a crappy human being maybe I should go stand in her yard with a sign, who looks like the "idiot" in that situation.
Some people would argue it's equally idiotic to post on social media what an honor it is when she drives down your street and you hope nobody ruins it.

You honestly think that even mentioning positives about this team won't be accompanied by backhands? Like how the program recovered so well from "unprecedented sanctions" "a great loss of scholarships" "a scandal that shook the entire community."

The issue I and many others have with ESPN goes beyond their horrid treatment of JVP. More than one of their on-air personalities took issue with the school, the alumni, all Penn Staters saying we put football before the welfare of children and we were horrible human beings for doing that. But now "football, football" is OK?

Question for you-- would a sign saying "42,000 unanswered phone calls" make Penn State and its football team look bad? And how so?

What point are you, and those wanting to hold up similar signs, wanting to prove? What do you hope to accomplish?

I'll bet you right now that they don't spend a single minute on that. They have too much football programming that goes into gameday to waste time on something that only a handful of people care about.
Strange, there was a lot of football stuff going on at the B1G Championship Game and at the Rose Bowl, and they still managed to squeeze in quite a bit of commentary about Sandusky and the scandal, didn't they?

So Orifice,
How about you tell me what "sign" I plan on holding up?

I have no idea, which is why I'm asking since you seem to be OK with it.

The question remains whether you do it or not: What good does doing something like that serve? What point does it prove?

If ESPN disappeared tomorrow, no one would notice. Any important event would get picked up by another network.

us don't ruin the Penn State reputation of being great hosts. But, I guess there will always be those "idiots". I'm glad Coach had the perseverance to stay on after his stroke. It's a shame people make fun of him. Strokes are not to be made fun of.
Why is it an "honor"? A group of idiots in bad suits show up with a Home Depot set and rockabilly theme song. It is trashy beyond belief

His post is absolutely correct that other MSM outlets were way worse than ESPN.

What ESPN did was bad, but what CNN did was absolutely awful by running the headline story about Vicky Triponey and “the woman who stood up to Joe Paterno”, and the also the story of JoePa knowing about Sandusky in the early 1970s with an obvious mental case as the source.

At least ESPN had some decent investigative journalism in the aftermath with the Don Van Natta story about the handout of the sanctions.

And I could tell you for sure that no ESPN TV personality was as harsh as the crap I heard on local radio in Philly.

These people calling for a complete shutdown weren’t going off of ESPN. A lot were going off the Dan Wetzel article that came out 3 hours after the charges were announced calling it the worst scandal in college sports history. ESPN hadn’t even digested it yet and the pitchforks were already out.

And no, I don’t work for ESPN. I just don’t view them as being the worst actor involved.

ESPN gets bonus butthole points for its on-air personalities saying parents of Penn State students should immediately remove their children from such a horrible institution, and also for personalities (at the time at least) publicly trashing THON to make some kind of false equivalence loser point.

No, but it makes the conversation about Sandusky again rather than Franklin and the #2 team in the country. But if you want to make sure everyone keeps talking about Sandusky and how PSU fans are a cult and are in denial about what happened, then make sure you bring your signs on Saturday.
Don't worry, espn will make the conversation about Sandusky with or without signs. And count how many jabs they take at Paterno throughout the broadcast. If you think they're not going to take the opportunity to continue their agenda they've been riding for 6 years, then you're crazy.

To me, this is simple! If we are supposed to behave and just move on, I expect the same from ESPN. But that won't happen. My guess is the "scandal" will be brought up at some point. If they don't discuss it.......great! But if they hop on the "scandal bus"......all bets are off!! There is no "honor" in having them here. They did everything they could to screw us! This is about ratings and money, something they seem to need lately as their viewership and revenue drops. We will provide both so we're acceptable. Nothing more, nothing less!
