It's a contextual thing, using the word "state" in some instances, and "states" in other instances. It's simply more convenient saying, "I went to States" as opposed to "I went to the PIAA state wrestling championships. "States" is a shorthand that every wrestler understands. We also referred to "Sections", "Districts" and "Regions". It puzzles me that some people find this offensive in some way. I think I have history on my side. I first went to "States" in 1961.
 
I think we all unanimously agree, that we should thank WildTurk, for his continued thankless work to help improve our Country.
And at the same time be able to 'stir the pot' on the Nittany Nation Wrestling room board. The man is definitely a multitasker, thanks Turk!

I’ve never hear heard anyone say they qualified for national. Ever. In any sport.

I was watching the Iowa states today. Don't know where they were held, but there was a big sign up at the top corner of the stadium: STATE
Maybe it was Iowa State, and maybe it's what they call it out there. My next question is, was the original question posed by a Pennsylvanian? No offense intended of course.
