James Franklin post game.

You've got to be kidding me! You call that an altercation?! Re-watch the tape. He thanked the person but then had to be held back from going back to say more. BFD.
I haven’t seen any tape. I was explaining to the poster that franklin wasn’t on twitter but that people were reporting this incident on twitter. Calm down

Said it was a bad play call and it's on him. Then changed the subject and went off on a tirade about going to class and taking notes in meetings. Kinda came off as a douche. He took responsibility, but quickly dropped the blame on everyone else.

He didn't quickly drop the blame on anyone since he took full responsibility for the play call. It was simply a boiling over of frustration based on other things happening. There were several guys that did not see a snap and he seemed frustrated because perhaps they were guys he could've used but in keeping with his "standard" for the program, wouldn't play. He feels the little things are causing problems and he's not wrong.

It was super obvious he was hurting deeply from the loss. At the start he had a hard time collecting his words. It's amazing that folks on this board think their pain invested in a loss is greater than that of the head coach, the coaches, and team. I'm willing to bet they are feeling it wayyyyyyyyy deeper than any of us can begin to fathom. The fact many of us don't have any empathy for their pain and frustration in their inability to get it right says how crazy fandom can be.

I like Franklin, but this loss has nothing to do with not going to class or whatever he wants to blame it on. If he wants to use this to correct some things that have been bothering him and scare some stragglers straight, that's fine. But this pattern of collapsing in the 4th quarter is mostly about recognizing during the game what the other guy is doing and making the right calls. And also recognizing what's working and staying with it, and not trying to stubbornly do something different. You can do everything ahead of game day perfectly, but consistently put the players in the wrong situation when the game's on the line and it doesn't matter how good your players are, you aren't going to beat similarly matched teams most of the time.

One of the things that makes Ohio State elite besides having more depth on defense is that in addition to maybe the best coach not named Saban running the show they have 2 former head coaches (now 3 technically) on staff, including a former NFL coach running the defense.

Look at some of the other elite programs (Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia) and you'll see some pretty elite assistants who've won national championships, been Power 5 head coaches, or been in the NFL as coordinators before. We have coordinators in their first Power 5 coordinator jobs (Pry was defensive coordinator at Georgia Southern and co-defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt and Penn State). That doesn't make them bad coaches, but it does mean they aren't likely to be better than the guys on the other sideline when we get into games with those kinds of programs.

Rahne's Wikipedia entry had this gem: On September 29, 2018 Rahne called the worst play in Penn State history to lose the game against Ohio State.

Didn’t Paterno chase down and yell at the referees after a tough loss to Iowa? If you think Paterno acted immaculately after every game then your memory is failing you.
Paterno was almost 76 then, and the refs made some bad calls

Guess you don’t remember joe sprinting after the refs and grabbing him by the shoulder. He was emotional just like Franklin.
Joe was in his 70s, an age when many lose impulse control and the refs did have an impact on the game. A 45-year-old needs to have it together better than to engage random fans or the media will happily feed the narrative that he has a short fuse and reacts to anything he doesn't like to hear and that will be who he is.

You are presuming a great deal with your post. If this did happen, you have no idea who or what was said to him as he left the field. He could have just as easily been defending one of his players. But then again, you are one of the more consistently negative posters on the board, so I understand why you think this way

Ummm there is video of what was said and he wasn't defending the players. The kid said I love you but that was a ****ing bullshit play call. And he responded and had to be physically held back. Talk about lack of class. Nobody better ever bitch about other coaches talking shit leaving our field.

Paterno lost games too. The goal line loss to Alabama. Losing the national championship by letting Indiana get back into a close game late. Losing the whole team down the stretch in ‘99. Every coach - every person - will have these moments to look back and wish they’d done differently.

And then want to argue with a student.

It was a bullshit call. And he knows it

Big deal. Yawn.

Big enough of deal to have to apologize. Might have to add another undercover body guard for his 5k charity run. What is the difference between this and people here bitching when a visiting coach flips off the stadium?

Don't preach holier above others and then accept this. Or just accept those actions as well.

Yeah screw it let the players do what they want, follow the southern cooking model for classes, maybe that'll work.
Collapsing where ??Big Championship game, Fiesta Bowl, Michigan ? I get it it's the 1 point loss to the Bucks the last 2 years. That last call last night was the only reason we lost, not the fumble, dropped passes, missed FG, just that call.
Oh that Buckeye coaching staff they got a guy who got all snow-flaky because he wasn't named HC, and i doubt he could find anywhere in FBS where he even got an offer.
I for one wouldn't want anyone coaching PSU other than James Franklin, and get used to him or jump on that WVU or ND wagon there's room.

Students are over 18, you attack a coach verbally, he has the right to respond verbally.
As JOE PA always said" i want your money buy not you 2 cents".

Fiesta bowl was damn close to one. Washington should have never had a chance to tie the game on their final possession.

You need to grow up

What? Wtf does that even mean? I said they almost blew a 21 point lead in the fiesta bowl, that actually happened, like you can look it up. You need to grow up if calling a spade a spade bothers you.

Did we win the game? We lost two heart breakers to Ohio St and people are here with pitch forks and torches.
Joe lost 2 close games in the early 70''s to OSU, we moved on as fans and hoped for the best bowl we can get. But now the snowflake generation loses all function because nothing matters but that trophy. Grow thicker skin you need it.

I just said it was a near collapse, which it was. Did they not let Washington back into the game? I get facts aren’t facts anymore, but not sure why your panties are in a bunch, Snowflake. I like Franklin and I’m glad he’s our coach. Please point out where I need thicker skin as I think you’re confused.

This Penn State is great and is in good hands with CF!!! You posters who are on here bitching and crying probably can’t even throw or catch a football, but your all great coaches. . Back this team up after everything they’ve been through since 2011. If not, go find a different team to bitch about. Bye bye

At least you still want Franklin as our coach, i'm pissed a lot of people are hanging this loss on him.
Look when JF came here he inherited a sanction riddled team, the 14 class spent a lot of time on foreign teams and it showed, our best players actually played in the GAMES. Attrition on the OL cost us the Rose Bowl not coaching, Attrition injuries whatever the F---- you want to call it.
Now if you really pay attention Bucholtz was leg whipped on that opening series last year, blocked punt, and a porous D , not all coaching but i've seen worse.
This year our most dynamic player Hamler gets speared ( notice the MO but why piss & moan). Our starting RB fumbles, what's worse is where he fumbled, the game changed there. Did you count the drops by the WR's. It's not all about play calling, sometimes the other guy has better athletes. The OSU WR made a fantastic play if you were a Buckeye, but as a PSU fan there were 3 or 4 missed tackles.
I'm letting this topic the F---- go as that. Franklin's my coach and i'll always support whatever decision he has to make
