Wasn't there someone on HR telling everyone that Nolf to Iowa was a done deal until PSU gave him a bag of money to go there instead? Gobblin perhaps??
Yup - one of the Dream School origin stories along with Zain. Too bad they ruined their careers by choosing PSU
Yes, and that was stupid even by HR standards.
The entire case was: Jason attended NCAAs in Ames. On the way home, he stopped at CHA and took a tourist photo at the Gable statue. Therefore, lock to Iowa.
Seriously. That was the proof.
The Zain story was almost as funny -- because TnT drove from Iowa City to Benton for Zain's cadet world title parade, knowing they couldn't contact him. All they could do was wave and hope he saw them, then turn around and drive 13+ hrs back home.
Zain's final 4 was PSU, Iowa, Lehigh (with Benton alum John Hughes on the bench), and OKST. Reportedly Zain loved Smith. Which means Iowa was no better than 3rd, and probably 4th, in Zain's final 4.
Brands coaching Nolf is about as nonsensical as a Fish riding a unicycle
It would have been interesting to see how he wrestled at 125……….
