I see that Maddon and company continue to play dirty and still getting away with it. Unreal.
I hope Rizzo tears an ACL someday.

Nah, the Cubs were going to win in any event. It was a dirty play, though, typical of the Cubs. I know you're a big fan and they're a good team, but there is a reason that the Cubs are largely hated around baseball. And it's not sour grapes due to them being good.Having some whine on the holiday?

Bases loaded nobody out. Ground ball to short, Rizzo force out by a mile. Diaz steps forward to throw to first, which would have been an easy double play. Rizzo goes way out of the base line and sticks his leg out and knocks Diaz off his feet as he's throwing. Goes into right field, two runs score. Diaz momentarily hurt, but it could have been worse (remember Jung Ho?). No overturn from MLB, although it was a clear violation of the rule. He's OK, but if he weren't I'm sure Maddon would have smugly called it Plantar again.** Rizzo was up in the 9th, and were I the Pirates, I would have drilled him. Of course they didn't, which unfortunately is their MO. Just ask McCutchen about that. Hard to get respect from the opposition when you continuously put up with that sort of sh#t.Please expand.
Ain't happening. He's a Cub.Fine better be coming from MLB. Rizzo is an elite player but that was bush.
Can't be the smartest man in the room unless you disagree. The catcher is three feet away from the plate.
The runner has a clear, unobstructed path to the plate.
The catcher has his back to the runner.
I suppose you also think chop blocks are hard, clean, heads up plays.

Stop the whining! Pirates lost by 7 runs. This ain't Little League!I see that Maddon and company continue to play dirty and still getting away with it. Unreal.

I did not see the game but just watched the replay. It was definitely a cheap shot.I see that Maddon and company continue to play dirty and still getting away with it. Unreal.

Watch the play again. See how MLB ruled on it. Rizzo made full contact with the plate. It is a good hard, clean play that was a huge part of the game when MLB was still watchable. Simply smart, legal baseball.
Chop blocks I'm not okay with because the player is engaged with someone else. I have no issue with a cut block.
I have how you're comparing a legal slide to an illegal block...smh
The slide was legal. Good hard, clean play by Rizzo.
Shut up and read my second post. The issue wasn't winning or losing. Point is it was a dirty play.Stop the whining! Pirates lost by 7 runs. This ain't Little League!
Maybe, but I don't go to bad restaurants and I don't spend good money to watch bad baseball. In 2015, when the Bucs were doing well, they were 15th in attendance out of 30 teams, averaging amost 31K a game. Philly, with a far larger population, drew just over 23K. The Cubs sucked in the 60's when I was a kid and they averaged less than 10 thousand fans a game 5 out of 6 years. My cousin lived there at the time and he went to the games when he wanted to be alone with his girlfriend. Put a good team on the field and people will show up.Rizzo is a female dog. He should have rawlings on his rib cage. Shame on the pirates. I was at the game. 60/40 cubs fans. They are worse then any fan base in America.
The slide was legal. Good hard, clean play by Rizzo.
Looked clean to me. And I still would have drilled home on his next at bat. Honestly, why not?
Bullshit. He changed his path to initiate contact with the catcher who was 3 feet or more in front of home plate. As usual you couldn’t find your ass with both hands.
Watch the video. Rizzo is running down the line and his foot steps are either in foul territory or directly on top of the chalk. Then approximately 15 feet from the plate he starts veering to the left and takes out Diaz as he's standing three feet up the first base line. It was a cheap shot.Diaz took one step and there was no change in his path--as MLB correctly ruled with the benefit of replay. Try again.
You must be a Cubs fan. Dude, look up the baseline behind Rizzo. You can clearly see the dark turned up dirt which clearly shows Rizzo's footsteps. If you follow them to where's he's sliding it's easy to see he changed his path. I feel sorry for you if you can't see that. The picture proves my point. His slide takes him directly to the plate. He's not required to avoid the catcher. It was a smart, hard, clean baseball play and the picture tells you that. His entire body will hit the plate

Yeah, nothing has changed. Except the rules.Pirates fan--watch the slide--completely in line with the plate. I feel sorry for you that you don't comprehend that being good, smart baseball. See the result. Five to ten years ago everyone would have praised that. Nothing has changed other than people being wimps. Great slide--great baseball.
