Justin Fields taking only online classes at O$U...

Smart move by him. That way no one can call him the N word again.

NOT to his face ... but ANYWHERE on the OSU campus. Remember, he did NOT hear the "N" word used at UGA. It was reported next day that a student sitting in the stands at Sanford Stadium used the N word and people in his section heard it. It ONLY made news because the kid happened to be UGA's starting 2nd Baseman........ Justin Fields did NOT hear it directly. Heard about it via news.

So as long as no derogatory or racial slurs get used on the OSU campus, or Columbus, or even the State of Ohio ... the Justin is OK.

Does not spend much time on campus. Is this the future?

It actually might be a sign of the times. Heck, my daughter is a Soph in HS and 2 of her classes are "virtual" classes. She takes honors Spanish and honors World History as her last 2 classes of the day. She leaves HS at about 1:30-1:45 each day. So if high schools are going the way of virtual classes, then why not universities?

I'd like to take this opportunity to report that I heard somebody at last week's OSU game refer to Justin Fields as such. It's very sad that he'll have to reenter the transfer portal and this ugliness keeps following him around. When will we get to a place in time when skin color doesn't matter?

I don’t care what anyone says, there is no substitute for actual in class discussions and collaboration.

Also don’t these kids actually want to enjoy being a student. Strolling across campus, checking out the ladies and just generally enjoying the very unique atmosphere you get to be a part of for a very short period of time.

Ya, So. Are we driving to the Bryce Jordan Center or Lasch Building to talk about football? No, we're doing it online. Because it is the times in which we live. WTF?

I believe Penn State is actually one of the leaders in the country for On Line Degrees/Diplomas...

I believe someone has developed an on- line degree program that would cost $400 for the whole thing.
Regardless, the cost of a B.A. degree is absurd in this day and age.
e.g. why in heaven’s name should someone pay to hear a history lecture, when it can all be on-line.
These universities are the untold theives.

I think if you're motivated you can learn just as much through distance ed as you can in a classroom. I don't have a problem with the method of delivery. But I don't know what kind of student Fields is and whether he's self-motivated or not. The concern would be that it potentially makes it easier to cheat. The classes I've taken via distance education have required someone in academia or a librarian to proctor the exams. I'd guess he can take the exams on-campus there, so cheating shouldn't be that likely.

Absolutely. In 15-20 years, campii may not exist at all, ceptin for research/lab work. All 'students' will be online.
My wife is teaching one of these courses now. All I can say is that they should be a lot cheaper than traditional courses.

Does anyone think that SEC players are attending classes? Really?

I'm impressed that he's taking any classes at all at a place like tOSU. The unspoken hypocrisy is that NCAA football makes $billions$, operates as a free farm system for the NFL, figures out creative ways to compensate the players, and nobody really cares.

Well, it doesn’t say WHAT he’s taking. It could be FIFA 101, Madden 416 and Candy Crush remedial.

I agree for some courses but a little more difficult for courses with lab or field work. try public speaking in a virtual classroom.... difficult to ascertain audience feedback.
As a hiring manager I would be very hesitant to hire a graduate with only on line instruction. The opportunity to personally interact with others, mature and refine one's interpersonal skills would be severely restricted with on line courses only. 25 years ago one of my dept. staff completed a MS degree in Hazardous Waste Management from LSU. She met her professor and stepped foot on campus one time.... to receive her diploma. A virtual classroom can work but its like virtual sex. only a proxy and not quite as gratifying as the real thing.

A) This comes as a surprise to ANYONE?

B) It's not like we haven't had FB players (including a QB) who did the same at PSU.
Maybe that was part of the package to come to Ohio State!! We will set you up with on line classes and have someone else do the work. He won’t have to play school!!! What do you think?? Possible??? I am sure there are some students out there willing to make a buck for something easy to them. Athletes can worry about the playbook!!

Justin’s sister plays on the UGA softball team so the campus mustn’t be that bad... lol.
NCAA IS A CRIMINAL JOKE!

As the District Cyber School Coordinator for my school district, cyber school is not some easy-peasy, 2nd-rate thing. It takes work, maturity, dedand aication to get it done. There is a reason why Cyber Charter schools in PA have a 40% graduation rate.

Do you think any blue chip football recruit anywhere worries about “how am I gonna’ manage my academic load?” when selecting a college...... er, uh, I mean a Football Program..... to attend?
Yes actually and loads of them. Why think the worst of an entire population of recruits?

I thought that online classes were not permitted by NCAA during the academic year.

I understand why online classes are popular but should be disallowed for those who need to maintain a certain grade point average. Heck we all speculate on the academic fraud and cheating that takes place by educational institutions to keep their athletes eligible. Now what is the checks and balances to ensure these athletes are actually performing the work and its not being done by "Alfred" who is being paid through the athletic dept. This stinks and should be stopped. Period!!!
