Kane Case Not a Sure Thing.

No indictment is a sure thing , but to a lightweight ticket puncher like Kane it's the same as a death sentence.

Cliff Rieders is a personal injury lawyer and notorious attention seeker. The last time he thought about criminal law was forty years go when he was in law school. He is speaking out here because he loves the attention and favors Kane because she shares his politics. Who cares what he thinks. Even if Kane beats the charges (and ignorance of grand jury secrecy rules is a pretty lame excuse for the state's highest ranking legal officer; think about that one for a minute....), she is at the very least guilty of extreme hubris and very poor judgment. Kane's lot here is a classic example of what happens when someone profoundly unqualified is placed in leadership position. She was an assistant prosecutor (not even the DA) who happened upon one one high profile case and, because of her well-connected (now-ex) husband and good looks, the next thing she knew she was Attorney General. Whether or not you agree with the politics of our recent governors or attorney generals, none of them was completely unqualified like Kane. Guilty or not, she has no business serving as Attorney General.

It's crazy perusing the national news' comment sections. She is ready to be hung by the nation. There is literally no recovering from this. She was done before her arraignment due to these media articles.

I know you have me on ignore, but I'd love to hear how you think he stretched the facts. Everything he said, from her resume to her campaign, is accurate. Although, I would argue that she was elected more for her promises to pay back Tom Corbett on behalf of Penn State fans than her looks.

If it goes to trial.....
I think it would be fun to be in the courtroom for opening arguments. If I was there, I would just watch the faces of the jury as both sides explain how it is that the Commonwealth's Attorney General is sitting in the defendant's chair in a county court house. Spit takes. Popcorn, please.

I think way too many people are mistaking this for a Federal case.

but but but C/S/S are guilty as well. why bother with a trial?

this will never get to trial and Kane knows it. this was a classic smear job to cripple one of the enemies of corruption

Forgive me because I haven't read any articles on this but a thought occurred to me...is it possible that Fina & Co engineered this at this time because Kane was going to move on the C/S/S trials?

To spin it another way, is this a way of preventing the C/S/S trials from moving forward?

I'm of the opinion that Kane and C/S/S are on the same "side", but yes it is possible this is an attempt to further stifle the truth that would emerge from trials . . .

kind of busy this week with work, but people should take the time to read about prosecutor Risa Vetri Ferman (who career-wise seems eerily similar to Kane), but also served under Bruce Castor, who saw his ambitions cut short when One Term Tommy got the boot . . . feels like this is old school Philly taking down the Scranton crew . . .

As I recall, a ranking of state corruption was posted here a month or two ago, and PA did not lead the league. I'm sure there is motivation being spewed in back rooms to get to #1. If you are going to do something, be the best at it.

when I lived in Annapolis about 15 years ago, it seemed like there was a constant competition between Baltimore and DC to lead the nation in murders. December was always a cruel month when it came to homicides. a lot of that was "hometown pride"

Kind of feel like PA felt slighted in the corruption rankings, and they are in make up mode.

Huh? In 2004 Castor ran against Corbett in the Attorney General Primary election and lost to Corbett...Corbett went on to serve two terms as AG and one as Governor, and Castor is still in the same position he was then. If anyone, Corbett is the one who "cut short" Castor's political ambitions.

The public's ignorance of the political abuse potential of PA's Grand Jury Process is what is again being used to create the illusion of "crimes" - when in fact it is the way the LAWS are written that create the loopholes which promote the ability to create new crimes protected by these loopholes. This abuse is justified by the "plausible denial" of legal misused by the accusers (in this case the MontCo DA).

It is much more believable that the PA Grand Jury system is being used by political elites to cover their own criminal actions by charging "crimes" on the thinnest of legal grounds.

Kane is not an "insider" and therefore is just a threat to exposing how the core PA legal system has been corrupted. The answer....remover her via the court of public opinion - by destroying her credibility and quality of personal character (sound familiar?).

Review this Tenn Law Review article about Paterno and the Sandusky Grand Jury Presentment (and System) and then tell me that the Grand Jury is NOT being used by those we elect/appoint to protect us to instead only protect incumbent or privileged politicians.

My similar thoughts, Kane did say she was going to prosecute the three amigos, in doing so, the trial would disclose there was never enough evidence to prosecute and expose the previous OAG for abuse of the office.
Review Ray Blehar's January's blog (link below) to understand the danger to the previous OAG & the courts should Kathleen jump into this rabbet hole.

All Fina has to fear from @PaAttorneyGen is this (and more). @BBumsted_TRIB http://www.notpsu.blogspot.com/2014/02/sandusky-scandal-marked-by-deception.html…

LOL.

Bring back Corbett and Fina. Let's get David Freed in there!!!

Let me fix that for ya'....:

"Guilty or not, she has 1000X the integrity of Corbett, Fina, Abruzzo, Kelly, Noonan, Freed all wrapped up together. Therefore, according to the rules of PA Politics, she has no business serving as Attorney General"

You are welcome.

pay attention dummy. because you clearly don't understand politics.

Castor was set to get a Supreme Court appointment last year if OTT was re-elected. clearly that did not happen.

Castor also refused to prosecute Bill Cosby in 2005.

this is why I have you on ignore, because you mouth off without knowing what the heck you're talking about. I said I was busy at work, so when people bother me about someone I have on ignore saying something so blatantly stupid really pisses me off and wastes my time.

Go back to reporting posts and lying about it.

Since I can't see, apparently, it's someone I also have on ignore. This vendetta against Kane is pure politics, hiding things and nothing more.

it is kind of funny that the PA GOP completely misjudged how pitifully unpopular One Term Tommy was at the time he ran for re-election. Castor might have run for governor and won.

you know funny thing is that Republican Penn Staters by the hundreds publicly said they would either not vote at all - or vote FOR Wolf - just so Tommy would get the boot, you'd think someone in the party would have had the sense to push someone else out there and let the FLOB go quietly into the night . . .

And funny how everyone wants her to step down.

1. Not everyone wants her to step down. Only the Dems want her to step down. She is such a disaster the Rs want her to stay.

2. That is what happens when you get charged with a crime, cover up bribery, lie to the public and do a LOUSY job. She should step down regardless of the outcome.

3. She has pretty much admitted she is guilty. Kane and her lawyer were both quoted on Philly TV when the allegations first went public. She claimed it was a non story because leaking the sealed grand jury reports was not against the law. Once it became obvious it was against the law she then said she did not leak the reports.

You do realize that she hasn't been convicted of any of those things yet right? Those are all alleged. By your train of thought any time a corrupt politician wants to see a political enemy resign, just find a way to manipulate the judicial system to get them charged with a crime then demand they resign....must be nice!

This isn't the feds charging Kane, it's a freaking COUNTY DA (a republican one, mind you)!

If the good folks of PA want to start charging OAG folks with crimes of leaking GJ info, abuse of office, withholding exculpatory evidence, misuse of office resources (hello PORN GATE-sharing of misogynistic and disgusting porn), and lying to the public (minimizing/obfuscating role of TSM/CYS/DPW in enabling JS's crimes) they should start with Fina, Corbett, McGettigan, et. al.

You may as well just say long live the corrupt/immoral porn dogs because that's exactly who Kane is fighting against.

A woman who is also running for Superior court. I am sure she was reminded when the judge dumped this business in her lap, it came with strings attached:
Either charge the AG or no party endorsement for your political aspirations.

I guess you're right - I should read up on my politics! After some research, I was only able to find one reference to Castor "being in line" for a PA Supreme Court appointment, but that was back in 2013 where Castor expressed his interest in being appointed to fill Justice Orie Melvin's seat. Except Castor wasn't appointed to that seat by Corbett - Correale Stevens was.

And while I suppose it's true that Castor "was in line" to be appointed for one of the two openings after the 2014 election (although I couldn't find any documentation to support that claim), there's one hangup - more than a year before the 2014 general, Castor explored a primary challenge against Corbett, going as far as making a website and making a number of statements highly critical of Corbett's tenure as governor, even going as far as to spark a bit of a verbal back and forth in the press between the two. Even if Corbett won the general election, if he is as vindictive and petty as you've often claimed here, why would he appoint someone who repeatedly publicly challenged him both in public and in the republican establishment to a spot on the Supreme Court? But then again, maybe I just don't understand politics.

And even if, against all odds, Corbett won reelection and decided to appoint his challenger to the Supreme Court, his term would have only been a temporary appointment until this fall's election - in other words, less than a year of guaranteed tenure. While Castor could have gone down the route that Stevens is pursuing to try and gain election from a temporary appointment, if he was truly interested in a seat he very easily could have entered the race himself, just as candidates like Judge Covey have. To my knowledge, he hasn't.

And I'm not sure what Bill Cosby has to do with anything, but it certainly is the first correct, verifiable claim you made in your post - including your claim that I reported your posts.

Yep. Do you realize she is a disaster?

the same Wolf who stood by her in April?

LINK

my guess is she's been made out to be a bad penny by some sh*tty people. so you gotta ask yourself . . . why are you on the side of the sh*tty people??

ARe you saying she is an innocent victim of the evil liberal journalists and Wolf is not smart enough to see through the smoke?

Clearly, the significance of this is either lost on some people, or they are willfully attempting to muddy the waters. Probably we have a little of both going on here.

I am also considering that they may not actually be able to perceive the existence of this sentence/detail.

SMH

Yep. Do you realize she is a disaster?

She's a disaster based on what? What some people she embarrassed via porngate and their lackeys in the press have to say (btw these are the same people that abused the GJ system via leaks to the press for YEARS to go after their political enemies)? Please!

Look, I'm not Kane's biggest fan but it's quite clear here what is going on if you've actually paid attention and thought for yourself instead of taking everything the media is getting spoon fed by Fina as fact.

Where's all the outrage over the NUMEROUS GJ leaks under Corbett/Kelly??? Why is Kane the only person being held accountable while all the others got a free pass? These are the questions you need to start asking yourself. Get a clue pal.

FWIW, this, all of this, the Hershey Trust scandal, the Dwyer scandal, the Kane scandal, the Porn Gate scandal, the Sandusky scandal, et al. is about "the machine" doing what "the machine" needs to do to protect itself and it's grip on power. The mere fact that the media has been totally ineffectual indicates that it is completely corrupted as well. This is what machine politics is. If you are in the majority, you get to reap the benefits of the corruption. Those seem to be the informal rules of PA politics, legal or not.

I spent my lunch hour reading through Dwyer depositions and it's all about winning no bid contracts and the kick back, bribe is always returned in the form of campaign contributions. It's like a broken record, same people, same tactics, same end point. A lot of that screams PSU/TSM...same stuff. The Dwyer thing has been 27 years now and it's still shrouded in questions what makes us think that the C/S/S stuff will see a different result? Especially, when a GOP judiciary is in on the fix.

I know none of this is new to most of you but after you read this and you look at it from a larger perspective you just shake your head and say..."Son of a B! This is democracy?"
Well stated Mr. Nittany Ned, I DO remember Dwyer but never delved into the politics as you have. thanks
