Kaytron Allen

Allen, who attends IMG Academy, is a 4-star running back committed to the Penn State Nittany Lions. Florida State has pushed for him in the past, but never seemed to gain traction.

James mentioned in a recent press event there might be movement in the class. Maybe this is it. Not sure why he would consider that dumper fire.

A lot of things might factor in here:

1. Singleton is a stud.
2. Our backs haven't set the world on fire.
3. Because of #2 maybe there won't be as much movement as anticipated (i.e....Cain declaring early, maybe Ford staying)

Not at all surprised. Our running game is pathetic, and he is built to run behind blocking.

There have been some rumors that a couple of committed recruits have been looking around lately. This should have been expected when there was a run on the bank back in July to get a spot lined up in the 2022 recruiting class (i.e. certain recruits were pressured to commit over the summer). I wouldn't trash Florida State (yes it is a dumpster fire), but some other programs have been saying that about Penn State lately.

IDK... I think I'd be excited to come to a school where the current RB's aren't likely to pose a problem with my playing immediately.

Of course, I'd prefer it if that school were ranked in the top 25 and hadn't looked pathetic vs illinois and for some of maryland game.

A win over michigan would go a long way to keeping kids from getting antsy. imo, of course.

BTW, fsu's running game is equally pitiful lol.

Especially if they read our constant negative comments about coaches etc

Franklin deserves all of the negative comments about 1) Not having a viable backup Quarterback (Roberson vs. Iowa), 2) the disgraceful performance against Illinois, and 3) the perceived mentality that we don't know what Penn State Football Team is going to show up week in and week out. And if we lose 1 or 2 more games this season, then I think Franklin deserves all of the negative comments about 4) two consecutive sub-par seasons.

This board is no different than any other. You’ll find critical posts against coaches at Nebraska, Michigan, Miami, Florida, Florida State, etc. Hell, both USC and LSU already fired their coaches weeks ago.

Everything you all said above plus he probably is feeling pressure from friends and family to play in state and help rebuild FSU (or other Florida school) into a good program. I'll bet he has friends already committed there as well.

Perhaps we won't need 2 RB in the recruiting class? I see 2 leaving in the portal and 2 returning. My guess is his ship has been pulled. Not hard to pick up a RB in the portal if another is needed.

I wonder if the fact that our head coach allows his name to be associated with other high-profile jobs and won't publically commit to being at PSU next year has any effect on these kids starting to look around elsewhere?

Not one bit of any of that matters if we are winning. I keep reading from know it alls who think when a kid up and leaves it's just cuz he found a better option. No... he wants to be on a winning team and playing for the big enchilada. Virtually all these upper class studs are looking to play on the big stage, and noon vs meatwagon is not it.

This team must win tomorrow or it will hemorrhage more players. Time is running out on Franklin and if he hasn't figured it out.. .well, he must be using up all his resources working out the details on how to utilize his timeouts...something he is really bad at.

And yeah, if we had a capable backup (levis) we beat iowa and likely illinois and a (then) healthy SC gives us a helluva shot at osu... and we're #2 in the country and playing michigan at night in a white out. It's that close. But it isn't that we lost, it's HOW we lost that is glaring... and glaringly bad. Kds see it and get antsy.

Tomorrow is a must win. Haven't said that in a very long time... and with PJ not on the line our chances are diminished, no doubt. But find a way. Or pack the bags. We win, Kaytron is back in the fold.

So Allen wants to be on a winning team and he is going to flip to a 3-6 FSU team if we lose to the #7 team. Drama queen

I think it has more to do with IMG kids typically gravitating towards FSU and the poor results of our running backs by-committee group. If the running backs are not performing well, then there is no incentive to go to an already crowded running backs room with poor results.

Levis is starting somewhere else. Kids who can start don’t hang around to be backups.
There are no night games in November in this conference.
Pity that your parents didn’t work out the details of contraception.

Which probably explains why a kid who decommitted 9 months ago TE-committed right after the Franklin rumors started I guess

Obviously Levis left because he couldn’t prove in 3 years that he wasn’t better than Clifford. And he’s not.

Whatever Levis is now, he wasn’t better than Clifford when he was here. Though he could have helped v Iowa and Illinois

The Ban on night games in November in the Big Ten ended in 2019. Night games are allowed and have been played.

No doubt he could have, but why be a backup when he is obviously good enough to start somewhere else? He left the team in a bad position, but I bear no ill will toward him for leaving.

I don’t recall any November night games. What teams played? PSU hasn’t done it and won’t do it.

Oh. I don’t either. Anyone who wants to transfer can. It doesn’t bother me at all. He COULD have helped us but we should have been able to win those two games with Roberson too. Levis wants to play in the NFL like most of them. If he wants to do that he needs to start.

Indiana played what I think was the first one. The Big Ten won’t schedule a night game without both teams agreeing so it’s not banned, but does require cooperation.

How late does a kickoff need to be to be considered night?

PSU/Illinois kicked off at 5:30 on December 19th last season. 2016 we had two November night games. 7:30 k/o against Iowa and 8:00 at Rutgers.

Elsewhere OSU/Rutgers strangely enough was a night game last November. Michigan/Wisconsin was as well. Iowa/Minnesota. There were a couple of others too.

This is big boy recruiting. If you're recruiting studs, many of them are going to continue to shop around until the very end because big programs will continue to be in their ear. Most of them stay put -- some of them don't. That's how it is.

If you wish to avoid that, go recruit the 3* kids with offers from Maryland, Pitt, Syracuse, and BC. Those types are less likely to shop around. But in the world of recruiting big time talent, this is pretty normal.
