Every Penn State fan knows about Kyle Conel. I was curious what the rest of Kent State's lineup looks like.

125 – Gutierrez (So) <Pomona, CO> or Ferri (So) <Shawsheen Valley, MA>

Tomas Gutierrez transferred in from Eastern Michigan. He had an 8-17 record for EMU last season. Jake Ferri was the starter for Kent St. last year (after taking over for Will Bardezbain) and had a 12-18 season record, including two losses to Gutierrez.

133 – Feuer (So) <Brecksville, OH>

Harry Feuer went 8-10 last year mostly in opens. Last season, Anthony Tutolo went 29-13 and 1-2 in the tournament (also qualified and went 0-2 in 2017). He’s a graduate transfer to Michigan State this year.

141 – Rooney (Jr) <St. Charles, OH>

Two-year starter Tim Rooney went 29-14 overall and didn’t qualify for the tournament.

149 – Monico (So) <Saegertown, PA>

Nick Monico went 20-12 before getting injured last season. Chance Driscoll (in his last year at Kent) finished the season @149 and didn’t qualify for the tournament.

157 – Heybob (Jr) <St. Xavier, OH>

Ben Heybob went 12-10 in opens last year. He’s taking over for Casey Sparkman who went 23-18 overall and 0-2 in the tournament (Sparkman also qualified in 2017, going 1-2).

165 – Bast (Sr) <Massillon Perry, OH>

Isaac Bast is back for his final season. He went 23-19 last season and didn’t qualify for the tournament.

174 – McNally (So) <Lake, OH> or Barreiro <Pinkerton, NH>

Andrew McNally is another transfer from Eastern Michigan. He went 18-16 last season and didn’t qualify for the tournament. Dylan Barreiro was the starter for Kent last year and went 21-19 and didn’t qualify for the tournament. McNally and Barreiro split their two matches last season.

184 – McCracken (So) <Waynesburg, PA> or Wallace (Fr) <Albert Gallatin, PA>

It looks like two southwest PA guys competing for the starting spot here. Incoming freshman Tim Wallace finished 2nd at 182 in the 2018 PIAA championship (AAA). Colin McCracken went 12-22 as last year’s starter.

197 – Conel (Sr) <Lakeside, OH>

Kyle Conel, Penn State fans’ favorite non-Penn State wrestler last tournament, went 30-11 overall last season and finished 3rd in the tournament. Unseeded Konel upset #9 Weigel and #8 Rotert before defeating #1 Kolin Moore twice. I wonder, has a #1 seed ever been beaten twice by an unseeded wrestler in one tournament? Conel was also a qualifier in 2016, going 2-2 (including getting pinned by Morgan McIntosh).

Heavyweight – Bolia (Fr) <Fairport, NY> or Berthold (Fr) <Midview, OH>

Billy Bolia went 12-13 in his redshirt season. Berthold was an Ohio state runner-up @220. Last season, Stephen Suglio went 21-10 overall and 1-2 in the tournament. I don’t know what happened to Devin Nye (Sr) who also had some dual starts last season (21-17 overall).

The Flashes return their lone AA but lose their other 3 qualifiers. This is a team that is not likely to replicate their 22nd place/21 point performance from last season.

I can think of two other times. In '97 #1 seed at 177 Mark Smith lost twice to unseeded John Van Doren from Lehigh. In '90 #1 seed at 118 Doug Wyland lost twice to unseeded Gary McCall.

I have all the faith in the world in Bo's abilities---but if Conelgets a good hold of him--it could be trouble for BO
I have little doubt Conel possesses the horsepower to throw Bo. Whether he has the technique, awareness, and quickness to wind up on top of said toss is a different question entirely.

Trying to remember what happened the last time a PSU 184 lb national champion moved up to 197 and took on a Kent State guy who was too big and too strong.

And Bo would beat them in the same way too. Any one of Q's takedowns in that match could've been Bo if you squinted. They use their length in the same way--turn in like you might throw, then quickly go cross ankle, or duck under, or something in between.
