Keshawn Hayes Out; Pletcher's RS Pulled

That sucks. Hayes is really talented. With J-Rod wrestling well, this pretty much locks NaTo in at 133.

Hayes looked like a solid AA candidate in the handful of recent matches I saw. Didn't see the 6-0 loss to Kevin Jack though. Shame to see his year end this quickly.

Pleacher is way overrated

sorry, but that's just silly, and you also misspelled his name. he was rated pretty highly coming out of high school, and he earned that ranking. Willie mentioned several times that Pletcher never avoided anyone, and that he wrestled in every elite competition he could. Willie also mentioned that Pletcher was never conservative on the mat, to try to protect his ranking, but he went after things. He didn't defeat every single top wrestler he faced, but he won quite a few of his toughest matches.

Definitely think this hurts tOSU a bit in the team race as Pletcher looked great at 133 but I have my doubts about his ability to translate that success to 141. Hayes was impressing before his injury as well.

The odds are that it will hurt tOSU in the team race, in that Hayes is really talented, plus he had a year to redshirt, get used to college wrestling, and also get used to being a college student. That said, Pletcher has a lot of talent, and he'll be a pretty strong 141 lber. I think it would have been better for Pletcher, long term, if he could have shirted, but with Hayes out he's tOSU's best option, so he gets to start his college wrestling career a season earlier than expected.

He must not be getting the best of their national champ.
Nato or Stieber? He's not back and forth with Stieber yet? Overrated for sure, lol.

It's too bad he's not getting his redshirt but I think Luke will do well.

Pletcher will shirt next year, I bet. Was looking like a 3-year starter until this injury.

It's definitely gonna hurt title hopes but not as much of a hit there as some are making it seem. Don't know if he'll be that undersized either. I've heard he can get pretty big

Lemon Pie already touched on it... purely from a wrestling stand-point, this was the only way Pletcher was going to see the line-up for 4 years, unfortunately. Without the injury to Hayes :)(), and with their entire team back next year, Pletcher probably would not have started until 2018-19. This way, he can wrestle this year, RS in 2017-18 when Hayes returns, then wrestle 3 more years.

Pletcher was at 133 for a reason…..As an undersized true freshman, I'd be surprised if he makes much noise at 141.

That's the great reason we all like wrestling. There is no hiding he will go out there and compete as best he an. As he has always done never ducking anyone and working harder after a defeat. Most of all never saying a word just letting proud uncles spout off instead, lol

Just to confirm will Pletcher be wrestling Manley thursday night? If so a tough match coming right out of the chute.

He's a tough wrestler and has a great pedigree with what he has done in PA. He's not a flashy guy and he seems to be a guy who is comfortable winning close matches. I don't expect him to put up a lot of bonus, at least not this year, but I expect him to win some matches.

I'll take Pletcher over 6 of them, right now.

I think he will make AA. 7th or 8th. Kid is very very good. Is he Hayes? No, but I had Hayes going between 3rd and 6th. Very little drop off for the Tan men, but yes, a TINY drop off, team point wise.

We need to get better at 133 and 141, with our current starters. I hope we will.

The Pletcher kid was pretty darn good in HS, but if he is 33 pounder moving up to 141 and if just a bit undersized and as a true freshman I would expect him to win some matches but I am uncertain if he finishes top 8. The Jordan kid found that to be rather difficult last year, at least the part about being true FR and finishing top 8.

I don't know. True freshman, moving up a weight class into a loaded weight class and not having the benefit of the best coaching staff or room in the country.

The Jordan kid started his tanshirt season at 157, ended it at 149, then wrestled 141 last year as a TSFR.

Pletcher wrestled 138 last year, so maybe he isn't so undersized at 141, and maybe he'll benefit from not cutting those last 8 lb.

I don't know. He was husky but very short, he might not have been cutting much weight. If he were at Okie St, Smith would have him at the old weight class of 118 regardless .;)

That's my point -- we don't know how much he's cutting or how it's affecting him.

I can think of a recent undersized 141 true freshman who did pretty well. Even beat a 4x champ, albeit with help from an average official, the flu, and a long bus ride.

Look I hope he proves me wrong, for his sake, seems like a very good kid, but I think he will be undersized at 141, on the short side and a true freshman in a loaded weight class. If he has the right mindset, and takes a redshirt next year, this could be a very good experience for him.

Yeah, I wasn't very clear about that ...

What I was getting at was, let's leave the buckeye excuse making to Tan Tom.
