kirk herbstreit just picked us as the sleeper team..oh no!

He said he could see us going 10-2. Said everything I've been saying better oline means better running and easier time for Hackenberg with a defense that was already really good last year.

Completely agree. Herbie is very fair and has not shied away from being complimentary toward PSU. I heard he moved from Ohio to Nashville because of some OSU fans who felt he wasn't enough of a homer.

That, along with Buckeyes threatening his family. That's a nice fan base they have in Columbus

This is Herbie, people, not Beano Cook. I've always felt like he's been very objective and knowledgeable when it comes to the game and he's always seems to show is some love. The only thing I DON'T like about him is that he's a buckeye.

The Dude said on National TV Penn State is the best fan base in college football.

That was right then and he is right now. What's not to like when he gave his own school the good bye for good reasons?

Kirk is very tuned in to the B1G and obviously O$U. He knows exactly where Urban casts a leery eye and why........recruiting. It is the lifeblood of success and what makes good coaches great. The Lion may not roar this season but it is on the mend and not asleep any longer.

Basically for the first time since 1999. I don't count the miracle season of 05, or the nice near miss of 08, those were anomalies. We played 11 years with a coach who should have retired, then the sanctions. To me, this is the re-birth of Penn State.

Keep in mind, we aren't there yet, it's gonna take another year or two, but it's coming...and when it comes, it's going to stay.

Herbstreet is a very good commentator. However, I was watching The 2015 Preseason Herbie awards last night, and when he was talking about Ohio State as his pick winning the national championship again this year.....he said "we" when referring to OSU. OK, it's not a big deal, but if he wants to remain objective in the public eye I don't think he should make that tie-in.

Good call by Herby on PSU's potential; haven't seen many others with similar predictions.

Good news IMO that this team is flying under the radar. Understandable that PSU is overlooked -- tOSU coming off a national championship and favored again, Sparty on a great run the past few seasons, and Harbaugh trying to rebuild Michigan.

PSU definitely a program on the rise; I'd be delighted with 10 wins; could happen.

Is Harbaugh trying to "rebuild" Michigan? Or has he already done the job in just 4 months...every time I see anything from the media on Michigan, they have already placed Michigan back where they used to be....

Haven't even played a game yet! That Harbaugh, amazing.

I agree with Herbie....its clear that you guys are on the rise, recruiting well and gaining momentum. Franklin has the program on the right trajectory and it won't be long until the roster is stocked with enough talent and depth to put you in position to break-through and regain your spot among the games elite. Is Franklin up to the task of finishing the deal? Uncharted territory for him to be sure, but this year could tell us alot! I'll be rooting for you guys! Great for the conference, great for all of us!

I love to see the optimism around here! Best of luck in your opener.....

Well, that was a slip up, but Herbie does not make very many of them. I have come to expect just a little bias to leak out now and again from pretty much any CFB commentator; particularly guys who are ex-players. Look at Jesse Palmer and David Pollock (might have messed up the latter guy's surname). I expect a bit of UF, UGA and SEC favoritism in their comments, rankings, etc. And they don't disappoint me. Herbie is better at keeping his comments objective and unbiased than anyone presently doing CFB commentating. The fact that he is a Buckeye and nevertheless getting general praise on this Board speaks for itself.

I love how people continually point to 6-4, in order to justify a total piece of excrement.

"Hey, our offensive line is awful and our QB was knocked down 83 times and sacked 44 times..."

"But HEY....6-4....so, you know, it's not that bad!"

Bad.....is......Bad.

6-4 ...... it was comical, it was bizarre, it was jaw-dropping, it was infuriating (we turned the ball over on EACH of our last 3 offensive plays in that game), but it was not boring.

Now, last year's games vs. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Akron. Those were boring. Run, incomplete, sack, punt, run, incomplete, sack, punt, run, incomplete, sack, fake punt that goes nowhere, run, incomplete, sack, punt, ............................

Well a week from last night Utah will hopefully have given UMich it's first of many losses!

6-4 actually featured no less than 5 open receivers in the end zone, ALL OVERTHROWN.

The game should be placed in the NCAA Hall of Fame with the Clown song playing on a continuous loop.

There were at least two OTHER 6-4's that year also: 16-3 at Wisconsin, featuring the single worst quarterbacking I have EVER seen in ANY college football game from Franny's son, who had NO BUSINESS on a D1 college football field, let alone playing....and 16-7 at Minny in the mauseleum dome. Oh, don't forget 14-7 vs Northwestern at home also. Mindboggling.

Over on the Meat Chicken Board, they are wet all over with Hardball love because Hardball just confuses the hell out of every one except the faithful Meat. The faithful understand Hardball perfectly.

Can't wait for the understanding to flow after the Utah game, and Hardball doesn't make any more sense after the game then he made before the game.

I was at that game. Living proof you can play football two points less than a foot.

Next to Blackledge, I find Herbstreit to be most knowledgeable and objective.

Yeah. I don't think it is close. They are the best @ what they do on the level they do it. Other guys do it well but they know their stuff and are very smart about getting their points across.

Definitely not something to be disappointed about if he considers us a sleeper.

Thanks man. Hope y'all are undefeated going into Oct 17 too, just not after...

You and Herbie are Gurus. I also think State could have a pretty good win total. I think 8 should be minimum with 10 the maximum. I guess 9 wins would be my prediction.

I think Gary Danielson would have to be included with Todd and Herbie.

I hope so too! Had a major season- ending injury yesterday to one our promising, up and coming wideouts, Noah Brown. We'll be missing 4 of our top 5 receivers going into Blacksburg, no picnic. Young kids are going to have to step up under the prime time bright lights early. I expect our defense to be much improved this year which will be helpful. I fully expect you guys to be undefeated coming into Columbus....going to be a good one!

Just run the ball behind that nations' best offensive line, that's your ticket to win in 10 of your 12 games this year. You'll need to throw to beat us, and Michigan State however.

Elliot is disgusting. I believe Barkley is his clone

If everyone nationwide treated us with as much respect as Herbie I'd be one very happy camper.....!

Illinois: I think that whole lack of respect thing is frequently overstated here. I understand that. PSU grads are gonna be sensitive on that subject. But when a school graduates that many kids each year and has the kind of academic rep that PSU has, respect is not lacking. I quite frequently see PSU bumper stickers in my Bay Area suburb of Lafayette, and that's 2800 miles from State College.
