wow! I have been watching him on flo-National Prep .

looks to be a perfect for PSU
style is Nolf like.
unlimited gas tank
great balance--very good with feet to back
looks to be a career 125lber.

I know that Cael is recruiting him, along with every D1 program im sure.
does anyone have any insight where Kurt is leaning for college career?

with incoming class--Teas--Rby-A.Busiello- Teske- Meredith is there room at the Inn?

My guess is Teas only 1 year at 125--if that
Busiesso same as Teas 1 year.
Teaske--career 125lber?
Meredith?

If Kurt picks PSU--im sure Cael and company will figure it out-RS, Gray shirt- deferred enrollment,

Kurt weighed in earlier this year at 108.2. I would fully expect a gray shirt such OTC and then a redshirt. He probably also qualifies for an Olympic redshirt.

I thought McHenry had a serious connection to Cornell iirc. I don't know the specifics though.

I hear a lot about Olympic redshirts. Does that mean that for one year there are going to be a bunch of quality kids out of lineups while they all red shirt? I assume it is for the 2020 Olympics, what season would it affect? Multiple wrestlers per weight? What are the details. Don't mean to hijack a thread about McHenry, but I guess I am.

Yes, and Mark Hall has been discussed as a possible Oly RS as well. It may prove a very interesting year for the NCAA

It's usually a small number. There is certain criteria you have to meet. I think even less wrestlers will take one for 2019-2020 season because they will want to follow Snyder's model.

If Manville has any interest in continuing folkstyle 18 months from now, he should probably take one to save a year of eligibility.

Yes. I agree Teske for the short term....BUT we MUST go really hard after McHenry....He is a freakin BEAST and yes FULL COURT PRESS to say the least....He will be a career 125 no doubt....After a red shirt he could be a 4 time NCAA Champ....Being in our room for a full year will make him even better....Will wrestle 120 next year which will be his Sr year....He is a MAJOR STUD....

Here are the 2016 Olympic shirt criteria, presumably will be the same for 2020 (swapping 2019 for 2015):
http://content.themat.com/forms/2016-Olympic-Redshirt-Criteria.pdf
There are four ways to qualify for an Olympic redshirt year
** Only required to meet one criteria
1) Past National Team members (Top 3 from the World or Olympic Team Trials)
2) Top 8 at the 2015 Senior World Team Trials
3) Top 3 at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championship or NCAA Champion from a previous year
AND top 2 from the 2015 University National Championships (must accomplish both)
4) Previous Junior or University World Medalist

As of today, only Hall (JR World freestyle champ) and Manville (SR World Greco team) are eligible for a 2020 Olympic shirt.

Cadet Worlds does not matter for this. Brooks and McHenry are potentially excellent candidates for an Olympic shirt, but they don't qualify yet.

Manville definitely should take an Olympic shirt if his ROTC commitment allows. Folk and Greco are too dissimilar to train both that year.

I'm not so sure about that

kurt is small for 113....Mastro length also got him this time. Mastro 3-1 SV

McHenry loses in SV to Trevor Mastrogiovanni 3-1. McHenry was never close to scoring, appeared to only be looking for a throw-by. Got ridden for 1:50 of the second period. Mastrogiovanni was appropriately wary of McHenry's ability to counter and steered clear of shooting himself until SV when he got to a leg and converted. Mastrogiovanni is only a soph but worth keeping an eye on; longish frame suggests he'll not remain at 113/120 for long.

The positive is that Kurt looked as big as I've ever seen him. Still not big, but getting there. Have to imagine he will be the guy at 50KG. Still has 7 months to add size before going for his 3rd Gold.

Nothing surprising about this result. McHenry still p4p best 2019. Kerkvliet a close 2nd.

I have been around wrestling coaching included for 40 years and i have never seen anyone like this Kurt McHenry young man....SUPER QUICK....He will be the #1 recruit in the country soon....4 year 125 pounder....MAJOR stud

Yes, including 25 years "associated with" the PSU wrestling program. Oh wait, that was Spyker ... never mind.

Best recruit since David Carr, another Must Have.

The kid I feel sorry for is Jacob Decatur. May not be 5 feet tall. Not gonna have a chance.

Wouldn’t Joseph qualify for ORS because of his NCAA title?

Sorry, but what do you mean by this? Curious.
Thanks

Weaver dominated at his weight (105) on the international scene. But in college he was giving up 10-13 LBs to everyone at 118lbs... so he didn’t achieve the same level of success in college as he did in freestyle

Does Brooks commit help us with McHenry? Both from MD. Friends maybe??
They're from different parts of the state but surely knew each other before being World Team teammates.

I'm skeptical of how much that matters. These guys all know each other and guys on several college teams. And many sets of friends don't go to school together. Steveson and Hall were HS teammates. Teasdale and Lee were daily workout partners. Steveson + RBY, Steveson + Teasdale, and RBY + Wittlake were all package deals until they weren't.

Can't hurt, though.

In fact, IIRC, Spencer Lee actually convinced his buddy Teasdale to commit to Iowa but then Teasdale later changed his mind, decommitted, and chose PSU instead.

Pretty sure there’s a chapter in the 3 inch binder on that.

Horraybeer and PSUCup1 covered it well. Weaver was a three time state champ in PA from Easton HS. He was an accomplished freestyle wrestler and was a gold medalist in the Olympics but only placed once (3rd) in the NCAA tournament.

"Mike Evans is not impressed" (sorry I just couldn't resist..... that line is just too great) :)

Weaver was an undersized 118 pounder in college and was obly a 1x All American placing 3rd but was a world silver and an Olympic gold medalist at 105.5

I am dating myself, but he was the best highschool wrestler I had ever seen, maybe up and until Spencer. Definitely the quickest, amazing.

There were some pretty damn good wrestlers claiming PIAA gold metals around Bobby's time. A few other multi winners (sorry if I miss anybody) Mike DeAugistino, Rick and Jerry Rodriguez, Jay Patterson, Jan Clark and old headlock himself Terry Williams.

Story about Jerry Rodriguez at 1979 states. Jerry most likely is going to wrestle one of the Benson brothers from Altoona in the finals. Friday night before semi and finals coach and Mrs. Rusnak (Altoona) see Jerry walking down hall of hotel with a whiskey bottle in hand and a girl under each arm. All three laughing and giggling as they enter a room. Mrs Rusnak says to coach Rusnak that maybe Benson (I can not remember if it was Todd or not) has a chance. Coach Rusnak looked at his wife and shook his as he said, only if they keep him busy long enough to miss the match.
