I wonder how Larry Johnson liked his homecoming surprise this year?
I'm certain he was impressed with PSU DL and the coaching by Coach Chaos.
I wish LJ Sr. was still on our sideline.
I heard he was in the Tavern Friday night
Was gonna say, I was at the tavern most of Friday night and didn't see LJ Sr.Actually, Larry was at the State High game watching potential recruits and son Tony get recognized at a former star of the Little Lions. Great win by the now 8-0 Little Lions.
Exactly. He, like any of us, has to do what is best for his family and he took that route. Don't begrudge him. But really happy we have a great young coach as his replacement!I don't understand the animosity toward Johnson. The man did a lot of good in his 18 seasons at Penn State both on and off the field. Franklin wanted to bring his own coaches in and he still wanted to coach and for whatever reason, Meyer hired him. If any other team besides Ohio State or say Michigan had hired him, would he be as vilified as much as he is now? The university decided not to hire him as head coach, Franklin apparently didn't want to put him on his staff, he went out and took the best offer made to him. That's life and some people here need to find one.
Pretty little girl. Hope LJ, Jr is settling down and doing well.

So you're basing your opinion on one single player compared to the countless others Larry Johnson put in the NFL while at Penn State? Deion Barnes still had to make the decision to leave himself, and based on Johnsons track record, I'm sure he valued his former coaches opinion highly. And besides, most coaches are only fooling themselves if they think anyone with a little talent is going to stay for 4 years right now. Even Phil Grosz has said coaches are recruiting today with the expectation that kids are only going to stay 3 years in their program. And who among us has not made at least one decision in their life they have later regretted? It's called life and the road is never straight and wide.Explain that to Deion Barnes.
^^^^^^This^^^^^ Agree 100%, when you start tampering with other teams to the detriment of the young man then you have really crossed a line. No way should have Barnes went pro at that time and LJ advising to do so was a very bad thing for the player, but a good thing for LJ and tOSU.All of that went out the window when he picked up the phone and convinced Deion Barnes to leave a year early, while at the same time encouraging Adolphus Washington to stay an extra year.
To hell with him.

As do i, great recruiter.I wish LJ Sr. was still on our sideline.
Agree....IIRC LJ left PSU with some bitterness because he was not considered for the HC position for which he interviewed. It was not because JF didn't retain him although I don't know if he would have been retained. All of that went out the window when he picked up the phone and convinced Deion Barnes to leave a year early, while at the same time encouraging Adolphus Washington to stay an extra year.

Do you have a family to support? To feed? To make sure they are warm and sheltered? The joke is anyone who would put anything materialistic between themselves and their family. If it is, you need to rearrange your priorities in life. No matter what level or amount, nothing should come before family. Nothing.Agree....IIRC LJ left PSU with some bitterness because he was not considered for the HC position for which he interviewed. The notion that these coaches have to do "what's best for their family" is a freaking joke. I'm willing to be that most everyone on this board wished they had half the money a coach accrues after 18 years of coaching. And, they would be after 45-50 years of working your butts off! LJ never had to work another day after leaving PSU!
I don't begrudge him leaving for Ohio State. Honestly, I was surprised he stayed after they canned his mentor in the disgraceful manner in which they did.
LJ Sr got what he deserved Saturday, and I hope he lost plenty of sleep over it.
He can stay there. He betrayed Penn State so he can go to hell.
That seems harsh.
Nor do I. This kind of movement is not unusual. For example, don't forget that Bo was once on Woody's staff at tOSU--and they remained good friends.I don't begrudge him leaving for Ohio State. It does add some spice to the rivalry, though.
I am with you guys. I like the guy. It was clear that PSU didn't want him, so he left. He'd be here if the school treated him well.
Maybe. When the head coach changes three times in 3 years, all bets are off about that. Few assistants would be around for the third coach.
