Last night's game atmosphere had an air of Pitt desperation about it.

We went in through gate A and Pitt was giving out towels and T-shirts. I guess they wanted to show a national television audience a sea of gold. Oops - ponchos. Then there was the halftime Pitt hall of fame presentation. It was a nice thing to do, but better suited to homecoming. It was another example of Pitt clinging to faded glory. Like the constant playing on the video screen (not a score board because it never displayed the score) of their past all-Americans and hall of fame coaches & players. And there was the "race" they had between people in mascot type costumes of Dorsett Ditka, Marino and one other (Green?). There was a constant theme of past glory, which tended to emphasized current failures and frustrations. Oh, and the announcer saying Pitt was playing for "their school, their city and their state." The state!?! Sheesh!

(And of course the nine national championships)

And oh, lots of empty seats.

Also, I got tired of hearing Pittsburgh announcers referring all week to the Pitt upset of Penn State two years ago. Pitt was favored and did not cover the spread in that game.

Double sheesh!

Rant over.
