He mentioned on his radio show that when he committed, he expected to start immediately. After the first practice, and he heard all the thumping of the pads he realized he needed to sit behind Aaron Collins. Also, he stated that he was in the room with Matt Ruhle who didn't have the physical tools to start, but was very helpful in giving him tips on how to diagnose plays

Lavar is probably my all-time favorite PSU player. He was truly dominant-- would be in on nearly every play one way or another. He'd dominate in today's game too, 20+ years later. For my birthday a couple years ago my wife got me a video clip from "Cameo" of Lavar wishing me a happy birthday.

I just about pissed my pants when he jumped over the line to make that tackle.
