I'm not on twitter, but if you google his name, you can see a post where he states "totally awesome you guys want me to coach ....I won't lie it would be a dream come true". Appears he was chatting with some other PSU fans.

He must have some interest in coaching as he's been at the UA game the past 2 years (at least). Also a YouTube video from 2014 showing him going through drills and Steve Mariucci talking about what a good teacher he is.

Imagine that guy sitting with recruits??

great, great athlete, bleeds blue and white

But- he was a very undisciplined player, both in college and in the pros. Frequently missed assignments, relying on his natural ability- and that often led to big plays being made against him. The best athletes don't always make the best coaches- more often that not, it's the average guy who has had to study the game.

He has never been a coach. Why would anyone want him to be an FBS assistant coach?

The guy who NEVER missed an assignment was Jack Ham, but he's not likely to want to coach at this stage of his life

It's about the NFL, the 18 year old kids with dreams and the recruiting being done by our rivals with coaches who sell that connection. CJF should at least have that discussion, since Lavar expressed an interest. May be a horrible fit on the staff or maybe not. The guy is already a great ambassador for Penn State. Slim chance, but if CJF hired him, I would be a big supporter.

This would be awesome. Shoop would be forgotten in about 3 seconds

Not really. I'll bet Franklin had some ideas already. LA should start actually coaching if he wants to coach. Recruiting and work during the season is fun until you actually are working 80 hours a week.

Let his start as an grad assistant.

I agree with you

While it would be nice if he had some coaching experience, I don't think it should be something held against him. I'm pretty sure Mike Vrabel went to Ohio State as their LB coach a few years ago without any coaching experience.

Let his start as an grad assistant.

First needs to graduate to be a grad assistant. Last I remember he still didn't get his degree.

Also no degree precludes him from coaching PSU.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the degree as its been a while.

How about Sean Lee? He spent a year on the sideline during rehab, is one of the best linebackers in the NFL, and must be getting tired of being hurt. I'd take a chance on him.

The skills required to be an effective coach are mostly very different from the skills required to be a great player. This notion that great former PSU players with no coaching experience should come back to coach at Penn State is silly.

Here here. Enough of the hero worship projected as coaches.

How in the world would Franklin handle Lavar's ego? Not a knock, but the guy seems to enjoy the spotlight and being outspoken. I can't imagine anyone keeping him in check. Lavar would be great on tv as an analyst and is a great ambassador for PSU. Best player I saw in my years at Penn State even with his tendency to run over kickers. Freak athlete.

My thoughts exactly.....very well said!

Joey Porter never coached linebackers either: When he is not inciting Bengals players to commit personal foul penalties, he does a pretty good job, and he coaches on SUNDAY.

Is this how other schools work? Fans just list off all the ex PSU players and coaches they can think of for coaching vacancies?

Or even below average talent.... for the same reason.

LB position coach? :p

Dan Connor Lands Archbishop Carroll Head Coaching Job

After spending the last two years at West Chester, Dan Connor is ready to lead a program of his own.

The legendary Penn State linebacker was named the new head football coach at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor, Pa. on Thursday. After spending six seasons in the NFL, Connor entered the coaching world as the Rams’ linebackers coach for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

“High school is a level where you can affect peoples lives for the better, even moreso than a college coach or an NFL coach, by far,” Connor told PAPrepLive.com. “I like being able to impact young people in right around the area where I grew up, so I can give back and have a positive influence on young people’s lives.”

Connor takes over a Carroll team looking to bounce back after a disappointing 3-8 campaign in 2015. The Patriots have not finished a season with a winning record since 2007.

“There’s a team there now that’s hungry to be good,” Connor continued. “It’s tough to look too far ahead when you have kids that are here. I want to just build a really strong foundation and lay out some core values in what I believe and what I believe what makes a good player, a good person. I wanted to set some roots down and get into a high school, so when this opportunity came up I jumped at the chance.”

The “Linebacker U” product is familiar with the Philadelphia area, having played high school football at Strath Haven in Wallingford, Pa. While at Strath Haven, Connor was dominant on both sides of the ball, rushing for 4,531 yards and 77 touchdowns, and amounting 461 tackles and 38 sacks in his career.

Connor came to Penn State with a lofty five-star ranking, and somehow still exceeded the hype. Playing alongside star linebackers Paul Posluszny and Sean Lee, Connor earned first-team All-America honors his junior and senior seasons. He left Happy Valley as the program’s leader in career tackles, racking up 419 through his four seasons. Connor was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft, and also played with the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants before he retired after the 2013 season.
