Lee/Bartlett

I can see the argument for a re-do. BB probably would not have backed off the mat had he known criteria went to Lee. It’s a very unfortunate situation
His backing off of the mat is what caused the criterea to tip in Nick’s favor. After that exchange, and the mis-attribution of the caution, Beau had like 2 seconds to change his strategy.

At the time he backed off the mat, the criteria, if it was tied, would have been Nick's 4-pointer, I believe, and Nick's score would have been underlined. But, Beau was up 10-8, so there is no criteria. He took a calculated risk of giving up the step out, which would have made it 10-9, except for the fleeing warning, which tied the score, AND became the criteria, with virtually no time on the clock.

The only unfortunate thing is the table worker got it wrong, which has caused all of this confusion. A do-over isn't warranted.

Gotcha…I didn’t see the match (no Flo) and thought he was backing off bc he thought he had it won.

With Beau seemingly jumping levels in the last few months, I see a parallel to Frank Molinaro. Besides having similar looks, strength and weight, I see similar career paths. Both came out of HS highly regarded, had modest success in their PSU early years (path's aren't exactly parallel give Beau's shortened but also COVID 20-21 year), but both jumped level's midway through PSU tenure. With Beau's recent NCAA and now US Open performance, I expect a dominant final 2 years just like Frank had.

Finally someone mentions this. When I saw Bartlett took Lee to the end and almost won I was ecstatic. I can see him doing what you said.

Not only Lee, but he beat Hendrson (who beat Lee last year and has a TON of FS savvy) and Ashnault who has a NC and pretty sure he was against ZR at Final X a couple years ago.

I disagree. Nick shut it down too early but looked good up to that point. Lesson for both!
Tou might be right. It was probably more that BB exceeded expectations than that Nick underwhelmed. I didn't expect it to be close.

I’d like to see them change the criteria end to a match. Whoever is losing on criteria could get put on the clock in OT for 30 seconds. Do this in 30 second periods til there is a winner. Clear advantage for the criteria guy and will stop matches from ending this way. Will also force action. I don’t think there is anyone anywhere who wants to see a match end that way.

Or, this radical solution: the guy winning by 2 pts doesn't back up off the mat.

The obvious flaw in the plan above is: the guy with criteria can win by running away for 30 sec. This seems like a bad way to end matches.

A few weeks after Folkstyle getting picked apart, nice to see no one is really happy with anything, regardless of style. Shocked, I tell you.
I have no problem with folkstyle. I probably prefer it but I haven't watched a lot of freestyle. It seems there's less mat work in free and I personally enjoy seeing a wrestler work for a pin.

Cannon was interested in PSU and vice-versa.

Folks have posted Cannon wanted to move up to 141.

Cannon went to Michigan who has Ragusin at 133.

Wrestlestat lists Cannon at 141 for Michigan next year.

Is Beau considering an ORS? Was Cannon considering 141 here while Beau took an ORS? (He would have had to beat Evans if so.)

Maybe he would have been willing to cut again for one team only. Our short talk was before the season was over.

In a year, Cannon would also have Kasak breathing down his neck, provided Kasak is still a 141, 18 months from now.

I don’t know if Cannon would win that one.

I love the way freestyle punishes stalling. They do not mess around!!! I wish folkstyle was that way.

He can’t run away for 30 seconds with the caution now being called. The obvious flaw in your solution is guys do back off the mat and no one wants to see an end to a match on criteria.

The guy with criteria absolutely can run away for 30 sec as long as he doesn't step out.

Under your proposal, he can't be put on the shot clock until after the other guy's shot clock expires.
