Link to Big 10 Tournament Brackets

125: random byes to #1 and #3, so Suriano has a R1 match (Thornton of Purdue)

133: byes to #1 and #2, so #14 Tristan Law faces #3 Cody Clark in R1

141: byes to #1 and #2, so Jimmy has a bye in R1

149: random byes to #4 and #7, so ZPain has a R1 match (Limmex of Purdue)

157: byes to #1 and #2, so Nolf has a bye in R1

165: random byes to #2 Massa and #4 Joseph, so Vincenzo has a bye

174: byes to #1 and #2, so Hall has a bye in R1

184: byes to #1 and #2, so Nickal has a bye in R1

197: random byes to #4 (McCutcheon) and #6, so Cutch has a bye

285: random byes to #1 and #6, so Nevills has a R1 match (Perry of Michigan)

Kind of puts a sting in PSU bonus point tally for first round.

Zain & Nevills appear to be only chance for PSU bonus in first round. (Assuming Suriano ankle is still questionable & may default)

Gulibon, Nolf, Joseph, Hall, Nickal & Cutch don't wrestle until afternoon.

That's 7-8 missed bonus points

You beat me to it. Thats what I was thinking sitting here looking at it.

If i have the consi bracket right, Law has a chance to win his 1st consi against NU then if he guts out another win.....

Loser of Micic/Richards in 2nd consi?

Has it been explained how they determine which weights get random byes and which ones are auto?

Iowa got a decent bracket. Not much more they could ask for. And with Marinelli, Burak and Stoll they take the title! Oh wait

Depends on the number of wrestlers seeded at that weight, which in turn depends on the number of NCAA automatic qualifier bids allocated to that weight.

The 5 weights with 9 or more auto qualifiers seed all 14 wrestlers and the 1 and 2 seeds gets byes. The other 5 weights with 8 or fewer automatic qualifiers seed the top 8 and the byes are random draws.

With 20 total 1st round byes to dole out among 14 teams you would think the committee could set a ceiling of 2 or 3 per team.

6 seems an outrageous number for one team. Iowa and OSU are next with 3.

4 of Penn St byes, Gulibon, Nolf, Hall, and Nickal, were auto because they had the 1 or 2 seed at a weight that had 9 AQ's. No way around those. The other 2 were random draws

As are the 1st Rd opponents for the random draw weights, no? For instance Nick drew Thornton (Purdue), who I don't believe is anywhere close to the worst B1G wrestler @ 25 (and much closer to the 9th best.....).

Correct. After the top 8 it's a random draw for the rest of the bracket. Like Martinez gets Sebastian in the first round at 165 and he is probably the best unseeded wrestler at 165.

Law has to keep his head.

He can lose in this thing 2x, but still remain alone & grind toward 9th and an invite to the Big Show.

I understand that, I'm simply suggesting the committee take a look at the process for next year. 6 just seems extreme.

Perhaps if one team has 3 or more 'auto' byes, their other wrestlers can be withdrawn from the random draw.

I believe the bracket flips on the back end so the 4/5 loser drops down. at least that is what it did in the past.

I thought so too. Anyway, it said "Loser of 11". Brackets didn't show the numbers though, I figured 11 was Clark v Rappo.

These byes are good news. Each is one less opportunity for a freak injury right before nationals.

If people are truly unhappy about missing bonus points at B10s ... is that the goal for this season?

The Penn State Wrestling Club's page is the best. With having many #1/2 seeds in 5 Pre-Seeded brackets, plus Vincenzo and Matt getting byes in the in the non Pre-Seeded brackets, our max team score possible is 6 points lower than the second lowest (Iowa and OSU).

I have to keep pinching myself and remembering that the reason we have the least Max, is because we have the MOST highly seeded, so this will work itself out very quickly. I like where we sit

Here is their table, and the link below. Again, they have the greatest to track progress

Those brackets are awful, not from a PSU perspective, but from a bracket perspective. No bout numbers anywhere.

Re-ordered by score ...
270 - Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin
268 - Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern, Rutgers
266 - Illinois, Nebraska
264 - Iowa, Ohio State
258 - Penn State

OMG we're in last place !! FIUR CARL !!

I agree with this statement completely. Good to see somebody else thinking this way.

All this means is somebody other than us might be in first place after the first round and it might be close Saturday night.

We wrestled our best against the Pokes, I suspect we look even better this weekend.

Maybe I'm being silly but I go into a competitive event looking to score as many points as possible, not wishing I don't get hurt.

How often are elite wrestlers going to get injured wrestling fish with losing records ?

I'll take my chances

Next year PSU might have 8 wrestlers seeded 1 or 2, and all 8 might get byes. That is a good thing, to have high seeds.

Sorry but maximum total points has nothing to do with achievable points. I for one am not bothered by MSU having a maximum potential (the impossible dream) which is higher than ours. What are our projected points? That's a more interesting number and likely higher than anyone else's.

Also, no seeds seem to have changed since the pre-seeds were announced.

Edit: You're right. I'm wrong. Loser of Micic/Richards. After that I have no idea.
If all the higher seeds win except for Law, if I figured right, the 4 man bracket for 9th would be Stickley vs Eicher and Law vs Delvecchio and the winners wrestling for the last AQ spot.
