Live updates from Cael Sanderson's media day press conference

Good stuff, thanks Tim!

Did we learn anything new today? Other than Cael's approach to 141 with Cortez and Lee? Oh and that Joseph has improved a lot since winning the NC!

Comment about the three frosh competing for 125 might indicate they are the front runners for the spot. May indicate something about the status or health of our upperclass wrestler.

Not a whole lot new there. National Duals, wrestling should be fun, meets at BJC, Zain, Ed Ruth we've heard him talk on those topics before. First time I heard him weigh in on the scramble rule, but his answer was as expected.

Two questions though that allow tea leaf reading. (My opinion only)

141 - "Cortez is tough, healthy and has experience. It's just going to depend on who gives the best chance to score." ... "Lee is looking good in practice. Good kid, fits the mold. Conditioning is a factor for him. Improved a great deal/fearless. Getting excited talking about Lee."

Tea leaves - Lee is the better wrestler. Cortez is in the same position as Morelli last year, he needs to show Cael he can make a significant contribution at Nationals or Lee's shirt will be pulled soon after the Scuffle.

Suriano - "Things changed and some adversity there with an injury, it's a tough deal. Confident in staff/support staff. If the same thing happened again, he'd treat it the same way again."

Tea Leaves - the injury, and how it was handled, was indeed a major issue. Cael feels they did it the right way, the Suriano camp apparently did not.

Haha correct, still trying to narrow it all down and figure out what to write. A lot of good stuff to sort through, just little in the way of definite answers or "news." Wrestling in November for you

It's Cael's Kingdom.... boy he is in a great place. Seems to have it all and loves SC. Coaches do, too. Any truth to the notion that the Suriano injury cost him financial aid because he didn't get to nationals and place? And PSU wasn't budging on how they distribute $$$? It definitely seems the issue was the injury. Not the treatment but how it was "handled"....

Ed Ruth...

Saw him this morning. Great to see him. One of all-time favorite kids, so much fun to coach. Just the way he worked, ethic was phenomenal. Still have a punching bag that still stands bc Ed put it up. MMA has always been a passion. Great to see him doing well. He's incredibly fast with unlimited gas tank. Competitive, even though he's cool. Excited for him. Always wanted him to win a gold medal first. He still has the ability. Thought Ed had that, not a lot of people do. Fun to follow him as he pursues his goals

But, but, what about those who insisted that Ruth got by on freakish physical talent alone?

Who knows, staff and wrestlers do not discuss $$$$. Rumor is Suriano was receiving a bigger aid package than what was typical for the first year, no rumors regarding the second year. Who knows.

Regarding the injury, lots of conflicting stuff, from the Suriano camp....Nick was not 100% until June, PSU Docs recommended surgery, Suriano disagreed, surgery was not done. If the Surianos were unhappy with his treatment, well straight from the horses mouth they did not follow the PSU medical treatment option and he still was not 100% until June.

Surianos can be p*ssed all they want, bottom line, break your ankle and you are not wrestling 3.5 weeks later no matter what treatment option is used.

Thanks Tim, that was helpful, I have limited access to video right now.
