Eating dinner, long table set up beside ours... set up for 12. In walks a bunch of guys, grabbing seats. I see Zack Kuntz grabbing a seat at the end... while texting. I tell the wife, "that's Zack Kuntz, TE for Penn State." She says, "you better leave him alone!" Of course. I'm asking the waitress as she's bringing me another beer, "what's this all about, why is Zack home on a Wednesday?" She says it's a local basketball league, he doesn't show up much, but they (this team} all come here after a game. She points out the dad (Zack's). I drink a couple more swigs and tell the wife, I have to talk to his dad. She rolls her eyes, I get up walk over, introduce myself and congratulate him on his football sons, etc.
He's a great guy, 5 seats away from his son, his buddies all get in the conversation, we talk a little PnSt, and I notice Zack standing beside me. He said he heard what I was saying and appreciates it. Long story short, he introduced himself to my embarrassed wife, and him and I stood and talked... standing up by the table for 10 minutes. Loves Franklin and the coaching staff, loves Tommy and understands, confident in the OL and REALLY loves Clifford... very confident in him. There was a bunch else we talked about... and he seemed to enjoy the conversation (probably taught to fake it). But in the end, I determined that he's a really good kid who agrees with me that he's going to light it up at Penn State as a tight end. Oh, wait... we talked about the Brenemans, Miles, Saquon and others but I asked what team he'd really like to play for when he went NFL, and he said, "my dad really likes the Jets." I said, "Eagles, right?" And he said, "I could do that."
