Don't understand why PSU more highly rated OL cannot effectively run block? I think it's a mentality, a desire to dominate the player across from you. This OL might lack that.
Perhaps they hear so much about explosive plays that they think they can just dial them up when necessary? As the colder weather sets in, the ability to run the football is necessary so this OL must step up or there will be some "L's" in the near future.

Some of it could be personnel. Wormley out for the season. Whigan and Holmes now MIA.
May have to play some new people at OG.

I don't think any of those three were projected starters, right? As such, none of our OL guys push people around...nobody is a bulldozer

I was wondering what happened to Holmes and Whiggan. The coaching staff seemed to talk up the versatility Holmes has, but the PT isn't matching up.

If the players we have can’t push people off the LOS, how does that get changed if the players are the same ?

Schiano is a damn good coach, will have that program back to how he had it before he left in no time.. The Rednecks in Tennessee probably still kicking themselves..
Schiano always has a physical, rugged group on both lines...limited ability at the QB but a tough minded team. They are always a tough out b/c of their mentality.

I think it might also be an issue with the strength program. Galt does wonders for the skill people and freak athletes but what about the linemen? How many OL and DL are in the league since Franklin arrived? How many potentially are on the current roster?

I think it is mentality. Good OLs have a nasty attitude in the trenches.

Maybe, but some of the people in Tennessee that I have met March to a different drum and I am not sure where in the universe that drum is located.
However, they are quite certain they are the center of that universe.

Its more than you're implying.

We definitely haven't blown people off the ball in the trenches..

I blame the supply chain on our issues running the ball. Supplies of offensive linemen are depleted. We’re probably two years out from securing some. Prices are through the roof.

Gee…… since OL & DL are unskilled positions, it should be easy to develop them, no?

Rutgers had their chances yesterday. Just came up a little short. If the stars align I see a 6 win season which is a profound improvement to Chris Ash.

The announcers were raving over the "freshman OG" for Rutgers. How he was handling the DT for UM in run blocking. Something has been wrong with our OL for years, and no one seems to be able to fix it.

Rutgers is a very dangerous team right now. And their 2022 recruiting class is off the charts - for them.

I think this has to be it. Even the DL that get drafted tend to be fast rather than strong. The approach to the trenches in both recruiting and training needs to be scrutinized and reconsidered.

It doesn't matter how many yards you run for, it's about the amount of explosive plays. Sixty yard passes are what counts ( according to some coaches)

This is absolutely true in a vaccuum, but you get way more chances to have those plays and a much higher probability of achieving them when you're consistently moving the chains and have short distances to first down. Doesn't necessarily need to be a running game though. Short passes achieve the same thing when they can be completed at a very high percentage.

I wouldn't be upset if they just basically gave up on the run and replaced it with short passes to TEs and RBs. Clifford seems to have the improved accuracy and decision-making to make it work this year. Unfortunately, I suspect Franklin is too stubbornly concerned with "balance" to be willing to just roll with the strengths of the team and we will continue seeing endless runs up the middle for 0-1 yards. (I am a big Franklin fan overall, but this seems to be one of his principles and I disagree with it.)

Time of possession is most important.

yeah we could be Wisconsin. How's that working for them?

Did you already forget about the recent players Oweh, Yetur Gross Matos, Kevon Givens, Shaka Toney, etc?
