Marcus Blaze thread

We are nearing the end of “next week”. Hoping we are not in some perpetual loop and hear the official word from Blaze soon.
I recall going on vacation in February and someone said we would know soon, I was pretty sure the news would drop during that vacation (8 months ago).

Maybe we’ll get an announcement soon because perhaps he’d like to be done with it before his Senior season really gets underway? Pure speculation, of course.

In all seriousness, does anyone have any clue about any possible timeframe for an announcement for this young man or is all just pure speculation?

The only people who know anything aren't talking. It's pretty clear that Blaze will make an announcement when he's good and ready, and not sooner. Which is fine, and his prerogative.

FINALLY: Today.....Marcus Blaze has announced that he is going to.....................................................make a decision very soon. :)

Heard today Blaze, Bo and Jax will be in town for a visit together soon. Let’s sign them that weekend
DT is making moves but still competing for second.

Duke would crush Robideau
Bassett beat Vega 11-0 last year at super
No answer for Luke
Blaze and Jax push us over the edge.

Push us over the edge?

I’m sure the three are here for the OSU football game… or White Out. If not then for the All Star meet.

Having Luke, I just hope we get one out of the remaining three. Two out of the four STUDS. Would love the have three or all four but realistically, I'm hoping two. Four for Four puts Cael in another Stratosphere!

What would be signed? Financial aid agreements? Also, seems kind of early for Bassett or Forrest to sign anything, as they are still juniors in high school.

Finally, Vega appears to have improved a ton over the last year. Super 32 performance from a year ago probably not that meaningful.

Bassett has said he expects his recruiting to go into the spring.

So we're not signing all of them that weekend, whenever it is. If they even visit the same weekend.

Give me Blaze now and I'll be happy.

We talk about the logjam at the upper weights, but Marcus would solidify the bottom half of the line-up for years.

Luke - 5 years to wrestle 4
Davis - 4 years to wrestle 3
Nagao - possibly 3 to wrestle 2 if injured this year.
SVN - 3 to wrestle 3 if he wants it.
Kasak - 4 to wrestle 3

Add Blaze, Desmond, Perry, and Duke, and 125 - 157 looks to be in great shape. That doesn't even include Nasdao, Cunningham, and others who have their eye on making the line-up.

The in house battles for the starting 10 are going to be crazy the next few years. And likely to continue with no signs of stopping.

It will stink to watch some of these guys inevitably hit the portal. But, situations like this are what the portal should be used for. Many of guys are too good to be sitting on a bench.

Well if all the kids that cannot make the starting lineup only want to be at a place they can have the starting spot, they’re in the wrong place for the wrong reason.

I don't think it is a horrible thing to have a freshman ride the bench waiting to break the lineup for a year and maybe even 2. I do understand that most want to start all 4 years

In theory, I agree with you. However, the very cream of the crop, such as Marcus Blaze, are candidates to win it all as true Freshman and therefore would like a fair shot to win the job right away at their respective weights.

I don't either. And I dont believe any of the freshmen would be transferring out based on not cracking the lineup. Most of the best from PSU took a redshirt year. For most kids, I'd think it's a pretty big adjustment in life, not just wrestling. The redshirt year helps with that transition.

But for some, the writing will be on the wall, so to speak. They just aren't going to crack the lineup. And as sad as it is to see them go, they worked too hard to get to where they are to sit on a bench for 4 years taking spot starts and wrestling in opens.

Many kids may be fine with a spot start/backup role and be a fan favorite, learning from the best for a few years. Then transfer out for a shot somewhere else, like Bearclaw. No shame in that

That's not exactly how it went down with Barraclough. Yes, he went elsewhere to wrestle as a grad transfer, but his priority was his major. Or so I understand.

Donovon Ball was at my house shortly after he committed to Penn State. I congratulated him and then said, "you know, it's going to be hard to find a mat up there". DBall's response was, "yep, I may never start, but I'm going to be on a National Championship team".

I've told this story a couple of times before, but it needed to be repeated.
