Mark Hall beats Marinelli

Complete beat down. I bought in and thought this would be close, but the speed and skill of Hall is light years ahead. A.M. is a bit of a plodder, I hate to say this, but he reminds me of Ethan Loufhouse.
A motivated Mark Hall (he doesn't like doubters) is pretty fearsome.
Very well done by Hall. Left "No Doubt" that's Marinelli is nowhere near his level...I like Marinelli smiling while caught in the spladle...was saying, "yea, ya got me"...and ya have to love the PSU socks Hall was rocking...
I was quite impressed with Marinelli. He was in on Mark a number of times and Hall just won't let a guy finish on him. Very similar to Nolf in that reguard. Just a very calm guy with the offense to kill opponents.
I'm with Iowa in their feeling that Marinelli might be enough to AA next year and Mark seems that much better......not going to settle just being an AA

Hall is flat out better than Marinelli. If the Hawks need him to step in and think he is AA material next year, good luck with that. I can see Mr. Hall being AA material at 165 or even 174 next year. With a full year in that room, it will be ugly for anyone including marinelli in 2017-2018.
I never thought Marinelli would threaten him and more importantly, neither did Mr. Hall. I think Marinelli would have taken down 99% of high school wrestlers with that first shot and Hall just stood him up and shook him off. It seemed late in the match that Hall was scoring at will and wanted to bonus Marinelli. Which he did. Marinelli is going to be tough but if you look at Iowa's track record with upper weights, his ceiling is probably a 3-8 placer in his career. The difference is that Hall is a 1-2 placer and I will bet he doesn't see 2 often.

There wasn't much in that match for AM that says div 1 true freshman AA. I know iowa needs him to be so they don't slit their wrists but here a year early that boy isn't there yet.
I also don't see M* getting him that much further w/o a RS. Love to be wrong as it will make the season that much more fun.

Hall was awesome and I was glad he beat on Marinelli who somehow came off not-so-well. I wish Hall wouldn't let people get to his legs so much, though. Against better competition he will get taken down.
Marinelli is good, and could very well AA next year. Don't forget, Hall also beat Nolf not too long ago. How impressive does that win look now with what Nolf has turned out to be?
Bright side is this, a typical group in the Penn State room next year could be Nolf, Cenzo, Hall, Nickal. With DT working with all 4....scary.

Even Nolf and Joe Smith struggled to finish once in on the legs. Hall is a freak
I think that Mark Hall is not a fair measuring stick for Marinelli's college readiness...Hall was winning a weight class with JoJo, Marstellar, Massa, and Nolf this Summer - he's clearly elite!
I think Marinelli is pretty legit and could possibly even be a true frosh threat to AA, but Mark may very well be a threat to win it all whenever he starts his clock! I guarantee that'll be his expectation!

Agree, but to be fair Nolf lost to Hall in freestyle and he lost other matches in free last spring/summer. His freestyle game was nonexistent while Hall's is well developed. That said, Hall-Nolf-Nickal-Cenzo etc working with DT, incredible.
I know everyone is excited about Hall & "Manchild" coming to PSU as am I. Keep in mind that they'll both probably gray shirt next year (in fact, Hall has stated that's the plan and Cael supports it) & potentially RS their first year in the room. That being said, don't look for them in the lineup for a few years.
I'd actually prefer this...our upper weights are far from "in need" right now so if they come in competing as frosh when the three N's are Seniors then that works for me!
100% agree. Marinellini absolutely has a shot to AA next year. Can't measure everyone against the most elite wrestler out there and say they won't AA. Hall is in a class of his own. And Hall would be top 3 right now at 165 or 174 if he were in college IMO
So, if we're crowning high school kids collegiate All-Americans, how would Spencer Lee do at 125? Would he make the podium?
Hall will be in the line up in 2 years not 3. He will red shirt next year then be in the stating line up....
I know one thing: He will go from a great wrestler to a "staller" in 10 seconds after he commits to PSU, in Hawkeye land.
The good news for Iowa is short term, rather than long term: They will start Marinelli's clock right away, while Hall redshirts, then keep Marinelli where he is, and hope that Nickal moves up, bringing Hall up to 174 when he begins his clock, thereby making it so the two never meet again.

Man I hope Spencer commits to PSU. Any word on when he plans on committing? With him & Nolf being good buds I gotta believe he has an influence on him. Plus he has to want to be a part of the "Bonus Point Boys" (Zain, Nolf, Nickal).
FS will make him big money (as will endorsements to go with it). Especially if ends up being Burroughs-esk...
I thought he would verbal to us after his finals match like he said in an interview. He said he would let everyone know at states. Do not worry it's just a matter of time....
Actually smart and level headed: When he picks PSU, he'll be locked in. His good buddy Jason Nolf will talk to him, as well as his new buddies Manville and Marky Hall.
I knew Marinelli had no chance against hall. Hall destroyed Valencia and beat nolf. Hall has proven himself time and time again. Marinelli hasn't.
To be fair, those were freestyle results which don't always carry over to folkstyle. That said...BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!
Both PSU and Iowa are getting excellent wrestlers. Definitely nothing to complain about on either side. Looking forward to seeing Mr. Hall in State College as soon as possible.
