Mark Hall ducking Zahid next week?

If there's a guy that could pull it off it's certainly mark.

Another measuring stick for Mark...Zahid comes in undefeated this year, winner of his last 41 bouts, with only one official college loss in his career. Zahid will be favored. Mark will embrace the challenge.

Didn't Valencia shell him in last year's finals though? My money'd be on Valencia, for sure. Don't see many beating him this year.

Penn State has played duck duck goose before......does this count as ducking?

1 hour weigh in will come into play for this match. not so much in March
Starting at 125 (assuming that's the case) will give him another hour plus...and I don't put much stock in it being a factor anyway, given what Zahid's accomplished.

Other than Kyle Dake, I think you can probably say any. Amine looks to be pretty focused this year, and Mark has beaten him, but frankly, I don't see Zahid losing again in his college career, barring injury. Doesn't mean I won't be rooting hard for Mark, or that he can't do it. He can!

Having watched Lewis as much as I have, I was surprised to see Amine handle him as easily as he did in Las Vegas this weekend.

He must be on top of his game.

Might require more of a Super Duck than a regular duck to be Zahid.
I was thinking inside trip, personally. He almost pulled the trigger on one at the all star classic last year. Might be what it takes to beat him.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Do you find it more likely that Mark beats Zahid this year or that Shak beats Myles?

Amine is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the country in my opinion. Yeah, he's ranked relatively high, but no one really talks about him. He is gonna be a tough out for anyone at BIGs and NCAAs.

The one thing Shak hasnt done is get that “ huge win”. Like AC beating Moore.

Mark HAS beat Zahid, but it seems ZV has upped his game since then.

I give them both a 40% chance.

Why choose?

Obviously, I'd like to win both, I just wondered how people felt about it. It's interesting that the thought is that a former national champ doesn't have as good a chance to win it this year as a guy whose highest finish is 7th. I just wanted to confirm that's what people thought.

Basically, if we confidence rank our guys on best chance to win it this year, people seem to think Shak has a better chance than Mark.

My personal opinion is that Mark is gonna have something for Zahid and I'd like to see Shak against Myles before I predict a win there. Shak struggled on his feet against Moore, it was a bad matchup. Myles isn't exactly the same as Moore but he's similar. Has a great double and doesn't give up much.

That being said, I think Shak has never looked so slick on his feet as he has this year.

If you happen to catch coaching instructions when Shak is wrestling, it seems that his neutral offense relies heavily on his confidence, strength and athleticism. I hear Casey barking technique cues to him more than nearly any of our other guys. Martin's athleticism is pretty hard to find fault with, and his technique is very crisp. That leaves Shak with an edge in strength (maybe), and in a perfect storm, confidence (definitely a growth area for MyMar, the poor kid). That's all neutral. Shak on top is the $100,000 question...

I think I like Hall's chances better, but I do believe I'll take Jefe's suggestion.

I think that's being generous.

I'd give Mark more of a chance than Shak. He has beat him, and I don't think much has really changed. Mark was an underdog then when he beat him. Every once in a while things in a match go your way and it did for Mark in 2017. Didn't in 2018. But I think Mark can keep it close - he has 2 out of the last 3 matches - which gives him a fighters chance.

I see Shakur as being a more significant underdog. Myles is really, really good. Maybe not as good as Bo, but multi-NC good. I know Shak is really good with the cradle, but that will be a real long shot with Martin. IMO Myles is close to one of the top 5 wrestlers in the NCAA.

Both have a chance, but only if the effort is there. Mark and Shak, like the rest of the team, have all been super this season, effort-wise. No letdowns, even this early in the season...phenomenal when one thinks about it.

If they wrestle, and lose, but the effort is there...that excites the coaches (not always the fans), and will be used to learn from. Wrestle, and win, with good effort...better still!!

Just to add on to a time when fans should have been excited with effort, I thought Bo Pipher's effort on Friday was tremendous, he looked way smaller and wrestled a good match and went for it at the end rather than just accepting the 6-5 defeat. I haven't seen anyone mention that but thought it deserved mentioning.

The only thing in terms of Mark and Shak here, are you implying that the effort isn't always there? If not, I'm not sure how that puts them over the top. I've never looked at either of them and thought, if only there was a little more effort.

"No" to your question, of course not. Just pointing out a coach's view vs a fan's view. Love the system here, where there's focus on the process, and wins and losses are a "result" of the process. Train hard, keep up with your studies, eat right, sleep right, have fun, and more...and the rest takes care of itself. And yes, losses are part of the process.

I personally rarely see a lack of effort anymore. The culture, or atmosphere, within the program, after 9+ years, is solidly in place. There will be potholes along the way...anytime you're dealing with human beings, that'll be the case, but this program is on solid ground.

Your comment about Pipher is an excellent one!!

40 for Shak may be on high side, but like someone else brought up, who else better to be preparing for Martin with but BO
