Looks like a few new capital projects in the short-term (next 5 years):

New building where the East Area Locker Room is, an all-sports Lasch Building of sorts

Indoor practice facility connected to new building to provide space for non-football teams (baseball, soccer, golf, softball)

New natatorium either where the current one is or just north of the outdoor track, to be decided in the coming months

Indoor Tennis facility in between the field hockey field and the natatorium

Renovations to Jeffrey Field (locker rooms, covered seating, concessions and restrooms)

Down the road (5+ years), looks like they're planning constructing a separate all-sports museum, basketball practice facility, cross country and golf clubhouses, golf indoor facility, Olympic sport facility, outdoor track facility, and a parking garage west of Beaver Stadium.

From all the talk in the "Den" about this topic last week it is going to be a HUGE project.
Will be interesting to see how they plan on raising the money for this cause its going to be pricey.
There was also mention of a new road through the campus being built.
Guess we'll find out all the details a little later today.
Get your popcorn ready because between that and the "big" storm I have my whole
evening planned.;)

Yes, I forgot to put that in - basically, they'll build a road in between Pegula and the back of the Lasch Building to connect to McKean Road and on to Bigler. East Area Locker Room and the current tennis facility will be demolished to make room for new facilities.

No new basketball arena. Renovations in BJC.

Parking garage to west of Beaver stadium.

Stadium to stay at 100,000 seats with more chairbacks and 'premium seating'. Haven't seen any details on how they plan to accomplish that.

Have they said where the BJC renovations rank in priority? Any brand new basketball arena would need to basically bag the BJC entirely because of the need for multi-purpose facility and no real reason to have two (not that I would be opposed to that, but it would likely be exceedingly more expensive to build from scratch as opposed to renovate).

No. From what I've seen it's just a bare bones, little detail statement. It lists sites to be upgraded/ built but no real specifics (other than natatorium and tennis facility). Maybe more will be said at the press conference at 3:30pm.

Starts 2018-2019. Fist 5 years will deal with Jeffrey field, natatorium, tennis facilities, multi sport indoor practice facility.

The parking garage makes sense. It'll get a lot of use and make parking more convenient for events at BJC and Pegula. Of course that depends upon how far west of Beaver Stadium it'll be.

A new all sports museum located at the corner of University and Curtin was something I didn't expect. It must have outgrown the current space. Or maybe ICA determined the current space could be used for another purpose to generate more revenue. Time will tell.

Looks like the full report will be posted online at the conclusion of the press conference. This was just a bare bones press release.

I'm not a fan of parking garages. A lot of the tailgating space around the Beav has been lost over the years in construction. Adding another building there continues the trend of paving over everything. It will be interesting to see if any more detailed plans are released at 3:30.

It's my understanding that there is a path for the Athletic Department to jumpstart the capital campaign, if it were to choose to do so.

Regarding premium seating; I could see mirror image of the East Side Suites structure on the West Side with the central portion being Press Box and the outer portions being additional Suites. No inside info, just an opinion.

Ok,
Thought I saw a new basketball practice facility included in that first 5 year priorities but nothing on BJC renovations. I supposed that's better than nothing for hoops program but still can't get by the issues the BJC presents if "fan experience" is one of the goals of this master plan.

I'd imagine they might have determined that the space used in Beaver Stadium for the museum was better spent on upgrades and renovations for concourses and the like.

I think it was Ryan in the Den that mentioned that there was talk of moving the Museum out of Beaver Stadium.

I wonder if they are going to attach any dollar figures to elements of the project, particularly those in the first five-year phase.

I can't imagine what the new admin area for athletics is going to cost at the east area locker room site. Spare no expense for office space for the AD, Asst Ad, Assoc AD, Asst to the Assoc AD etc...

All Sports Museum is a great idea. Having some stuff buried in the current Football Museum doesn't do our athletics program justice.

Also psyched about an improved tennis facility. Has everyone met current women's player Katja Blik?

There wasn't anything in the initial report about the administrative suite being moved from its current location in the BJC.

I have mixed thoughts on a parking garage. I read on Onward State that tailgating is expected to be a focus of this plan. While I do think the parking situation for athletic events and football isn't great, a garage will detract from the tailgating experience. However look at the mess the lots and parking operations become when there is a football game in bad weather. This one could be a mixed bag.

Agree. Of course anyone parking there would know they can't tailgate but that's OK. Some people don't come to tailgate or they come with the intention of meeting up at another location to tailgate. The huge negative would be getting out. Everyone trying to leave a parking deck at the same time is a nightmare.

just curious, having never been there live, what is wrong with the BJC, it looks like a nice facility. Not trying to troll either,

It's a decent structure but from a college fan experience standpoint and ambiance, it rates about a 2 on a scale of 1-10 - just a very hollow building, but at the time it was built there seemed to be a lot of these cookie cutter facilities being put up to replace outdated buildings. There was an attractiveness to have something new and fresh but not much was put into the experience of the fan when you contrast it to the more intimate setting of a place like Rec Hall. To be fair, a lot of pro barns built in the mid-90s would fit in here too but easier to upgrade and renovate those given the $$$ in play.

It's true a winning team would ignite the atmosphere but still think for a decent experience, the BJC is about 5,000 capacity over what it should be and what the school could reasonably expect to sell out over the course of a 16 game home schedule.

Of course, a 15,000 seat facility helps attract other entertainment acts so it is somewhat needed to be that large.

The new building is going to house locker rooms and admin space for teams, not for the management admin. Instead of having a locker room in the east area and coaches offices in rec Hall like for example soccer has now they will have all that space in the new building.
