While watching the Steelers at Buffalo game I was trying to think of memorable college games in the snow both involving Penn State and those that did not.

Of course nothing compares to the Ice Bowl game on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field for weather and drama.

Snow bowl - Penn State @ Notre Dame
Reggie Brooks for the late td IIRC.
Snow bowl - Michigan @ Penn State

Nastasi with the fake field goal td.

Penn State @ Pitt - Elliott Walker stopped short of the goal line.
Others?

I was at the Oklahoma at WVU game this year and in the first quarter I felt like I was in a snow globe as I couldn't see the opposite side of the stadium. That was cool.

Didn't Penn State come back against Michigan State in East Lansing in 93 on a frigid icy day. Was there a slight flurry going on? Did it snow in 95 during the Michigan - Penn State game? Certainly the Pitt - Penn State game was unforgettable.

One game not involving Penn State that was played in cold and ice and set the stage for his legendary career was the Bowl Game where a very sick Joe Montana led ND back to victory. I worked with a girl whose husband played on that ND team and I never stopped hearing about it. The person said Montana was extremely ill with a dangerously low body temp but he willed himself to play and led the Irish to victory. Don't shoot the messenger, just remember hearing about this a lot.

Best-ever snow game I attended was the 1977 Penn State at Pitt game when we won 15-13. Pitt scored with under a minute to play but got stopped on the two-pt. run by Elliott Walker.
Ron Hostetler intercepted QB Matt Cavanaugh twice in the endzone. I'm pretty sure Cavanaugh was playing in his first game since getting injured against ND in the season opener.
I remember Chuck Fusina and his mom were told by the FBI not to play the game because of death threats made to both.
I also remember having an extended stay at a place called the Viking Motor Inn because the mounting snow made driving reckless.

The whole game wasn't played in the snow, but I remember when we played ND in 1981. We were behind into the 4th quarter. Of course, then the stadium was much smaller and more open. From the student section, we could see this freaking snow squall heading across the valley right toward us. We were all going nuts watching it get closer and closer. The alums were probably wondering what our problem was.

We ended up scoring to take the lead with a few minutes left in the game, then stopped ND's final drive to win 24-21.

I remember that game. DT Greg Gattuso picked off a pass about 15 yards down field to clinch the win...

Not memorable in terms of importance or anything, but my last home game as a PSU student in 1977 vs Temple was in during a fair bit of snow, as I recall. It was memorable for me, as I knew it would be the last time I'd sit in the Beav as a student, And no, I'm not discounting graduation. I was not there as I was on a study abroad program in Cologne when I graduated--and did not find out that I'd graduated then until the next year when my brother tried to pick up my diploma for me. I'd thought my official graduation would be delayed until I took my last exam in Germany, which was two or three days after graduation. It wasn't.

Penn State - ND 1992

I was a junior. Remember going to the G-Man that night and a number of players had already made the trip back and were up in the corner. I believe it was roped off. Just sitting there. Drinking beers. DISGUSTED!!!

Never forget that game.

There was a PSU vs. ND game at Beaver Stadium.

Penn State beat Notre Dame, 21-20, during the Nov. 21, 1987, game, which started with 84,000 shivering fans looking on. However, by the end of the game, many of the fans left due to the severe cold, wind chill was in the -15 range.

Browns Buffs 2007. 8-0

I remember one FG kick moving at least ten yards due to the wind.

But reminded me of the craziest field goal of all time. A 51 yarder by the Browns against the Ravens in Dec. 24, 2008. Here is the video. The ball hits the upright, then goes through the uprights, lands on the stanchion holding up the Goal, and bounces back into the field of play. THAT DEFIES THE RULES OF SCIENCE! How many times would you have to kick a ball that goes through the uprights, his the pipe that is angled down and then bounces back through the uprights onto the field of play?!!!

I was at both of those games you list as snow bowls. If I recall, it didn't actually snow during the Michigan game, but there was a huge storm a few days before the game and they supposedly brought in "volunteers" from the prison to shovel out the seating areas. I think they only shoveled off the seats though because we had a food of snow under our feet. My knees were in my chin for the game.

The ND game was a heartbreaker. Not only was there a late TD (less than a minute left) but they went for 2 to win by 1 point.

I think I'm still cold from that one. Tried to go to the car at the half to warm up (when you could still do that). Not sure the car ever got much above 30 deg. One heck of a game though.

I was at that game...recall watching students slide down hills on their bare chests prior to the game....without a doubt....the coldest game I have ever attended.

While the temperatures during the 1987 ND game were much lower, the coldest I have ever been at a Penn State game was the 1985 ND game which was played in 35-40 degree temps but in a driving rainstorm. Stayed until the victory bell was ringing at both games!

I was soaked to the skin for that one but do not remember being that cold. I'm still grateful to HiWay Pizza for letting us use their bathroom to change before we ate there.

Yes, that was quite a day. I lost my roommate and then looked out and saw him swinging from the goalpost cross bar. We were hammered.

the sections cleared by the prisoners for the Michigan snow game were the only ones clear of snow.....the rest of the stadium was cleared by various university employees and local volunteers who in many cases just showed up with shovels and were put to work....the prisoners were the only ones who carried the snow up and dumped it out of the stadium while the others packed it under the seats (source: Bob Hudzik during a stadium tour years ago)
