Memphis loses coach for game

Our special teams coach Joe Lorig should have a pretty good idea what Memphis is all about.

I read another post where PSU was not up to play Kentucky last year and now there is this same concern. This past season I believe this was the case in many games. How can this be? I don't get it . Is this mind set on the coaching staff? Who's responsibility is it to prepare the mind to play the game? This mind set has led us to the land of Cotton.

Last year there were a bunch of players with one foot out the door and then they played like it. This year, many guys have said they’re coming back and seem ready to get to the next level. This game will be the start of it. I expect the team to be ready.

Curious what (many) games you feel Penn State football players were “not up to play” this season.

You read it in another post and now you are taking it as fact that this is the case?

Norvell will not be on the sidelines for the Cotton Bowl. His OLine coach, Ryan Silverfield, will act as interim coach.

Any idea what happened to have him leave now? Earlier today he was reportedly staying for the bowl game, now he’s gone.

Since Franklin is heading to Memphis, will he coach against Penn State in the bowl game?

Can’t find it now, but earlier this afternoon didn’t someone post something to the effect that Pat Freiermuth’s angry emoji tweet today meant he “didn’t care” about being in the Cotton Bowl?

I’m hoping it suggests the opposite... that he and the other players will be fired up at the slight of being passed up for the Rose, will play like they have something to prove, and carry the feeling forward into a heightened sense of urgency to take care of business (and more) every single game next season.

I hope so. Memphis is no pushovers and if they approach it that way it will be a repeat of many games this season.

Memphis: Athletic director Laird Veatch says that the current plan is for running backs coach Ryan Silverfield to coach the team in the Cotton Bowl unless Mike Norvell decides he wants to come back for it, and that particular conversation with Norvell will happen at a later date. A l

I hate this matchup. It’s practically a no - win situation for PSU.

it probably is. But that’s been Franklin’s Achilles heel the last several seasons, motivating the team to get up for less than sexy matchups. Here’s a chance to get over that weird hump. (Trying to make lemonade here)

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

With the early signing date quickly approaching, the question is how many of his coaches will he take with him? Will likely know toute de suite.

Memphis is an excellent team with fine passing attack. They have fine athletes to attack our secondary. Penn State players and coaches will not underestimate Memphis after they break down their offense. Just watch their wins against Cinci. I hope our team will be healed and rested before practice and practice hard afterwards. The game is in an outstanding venue in Dallas. Our young athletes will enjoy the city and great state of Texas. Hoping Noah is healthy, Journey, Ricky, and Devyn bring their A game. Love the Nitts!

What is our record over the last several years in “less than sexy matchups”?

It’s like all the dumb Facebook comments have moved over here.

Haven’t you realized that with many on this board if something happens once it means all the time in their minds.
