On BTN vs Michigan. 0-0 with 11:04 left in the first. PSU going on the PP.

GOAL!!! PP goal around 9 mins left in 1st. 1-0 PSU.

GOAL!!! ES goal. 6:35 left in 1st. 2-0 PSU.

GOAL!!! ES goal with 29 seconds left in the 1st. 3-0 PSU!!!

Great 1st period. Whoo hoo! Keep it going.

GOAL!!! 4-0 PSU. 18:50 left in 2nd.

Michigan scores. 4-1 PSU, 17:38 left in 2nd. Lol... offsides Michigan, no goal. Back to 4-0 PSU! :)

Michigan really scores this time off a PP goal with about 10 seconds left. 4-1 PSU. 9:41 left in 2nd.

That's 2, with PSU up over the Wolverines 4-1. 20 minutes to go!

16:37 left in 3rd... PSU just stole a goal from Michigan... wow!

Surprise Michigan hasn't snuck in a goal with the amount of time they had in the PSU zone, but PSU righting the ship to some extent. 7 mins left, PSU starting a PP. Still up 4-1.

3:38 left... Michigan going on a PP with PSU still up 4-1.

PSU kills the PP... great kill... 1:39 left.

Michigan back on a PP... 1:07 left... empty net with PSU up 4-1. Michigan time out.

Just missed the empty net! 38 seconds left.

That's a wrap! Penn State beats Michigan 4-1 to advance to the B1G Semifinal against Minnesota. Played Minnesota tough in that last match up, despite being swept in the regular season. Hopefully tonight was enough to get that first NCAA bid. GO STATE!

I was disturbed at what I found on Irondoc, but concluded that there wasn't really any point in pursuing further since:
  • He doesn't post here any longer, and
  • What I would share would quickly be deleted by the "Mods"
I just thankful that I'm not a potential patient in the "Greater Hazelton" area. ;)

I predict some very suspicious officiating during Period 2 ( and perhaps Period 3).

Impressive period. Lots of jump and focus was much needed. Capitalized on two odd man rushes plus power play...two areas that have been problems of late
 
That's offsides. Let's see if it remains 4-0. Upheld.

That's why you're taught to drag your leg across the blue line if the puck carrier is behind you.

I was impressed with PSU's urgency in clearing their own zone during P2. Even more important in P3 since Michigan will be pinching.

It was ugly there for a time but they finally cleared the zone. Just need to keep skating and clearing their own end if the ice with a periodic offensive rush. 9:00 remaining.

A lot of pussyfooting the puck in their own end and no tape to tape passing. Lucky with some of those chances we were giving up. Very lucky.

4:35 remaining, but a blatant cross-check against UM around the 5:00 mark. Not called.
 
I have never liked the Red Baron.....especially when he played for the Blues.

A very complete game by PSU.

So, I ran through the Pairwise predictor and it looks to me that the only way PSU is left out is if Quinnipiac wins the ECAC. And that assumes, of course, PSU loses to Minnesota. Win tomorrow and it looks like we are definitely in.

Does anyone see anything different?

Edit: D'oh also see BC winning Hockey East also could knock us out. So, root against Quinnipiac and BC.

We're in pretty good shape to get the bid right now, but it could get hairy if we lose and both Boston College and Wisconsin win the conference tourneys. In that case, probably need to pull for Air Force to have won the AHA.

I was just eyeballing the PairWise without crunching numbers. I think Quinnipiac winning is only hurting PSU if both BC and Wisconsin win their tournaments too. That could in theory push 3 teams currently outside top 14 into it while PSU would have dropped with loss to Minnesota behind them.

Right now, at least two teams below PSU are making the tournament -- the AHA winner and the WHCA winner. (Technically, it looks like Air Force could pass PSU by winning the AHA but that's not really important.)

So, it's top 14 regardless. If BC wins Hockey East or Quinnipiac wins the ECAC then either of those will take another spot and drop it to top 13 or 12.

When I plugged the numbers, we didn't make it with Quinnipiac getting in if we lose tomorrow. BC and Wisconsin can both lose and that happens; we'd could be knocked out while in spot 14.
 
Regarding Wisconsin versus tOSU, it looks like we want Wisconsin to win. It looks like tOSU passes us in Pairwise with a win and a loss to Minnesota and could lock us out of a spot depending on how other things fall.

Obviously, we want PSU to win, but the best case Big Ten scenario otherwise is Minnesota over Wisconsin for the championship. That puts both tOSU and Wisconsin below us in Pairwise and would mean that both BC and Qunnipiac would have to win their conferences to displace us.

If either Wisconsin or tOSU won the Big Ten, it has the same impact on us as the other team winning.
