...As I say, credit due when due, but criticism due when due also...

Not good so far. Harbaugh got 2 speed guys 2 linebackers and a top 10 center from Stanford.

We got 2 kickers. We need to do better. Still plenty of time...

Ironic when Joe bots want Franklin to do things the exact opposite of the way joe would do it.

Really we bash Michigan state for building entire team of transfers and now we gloat over Michigan getting transfers and we have no idea if so transfer will work on there team ,just like even if we get the wr we want as fans if they will even work out for us , everyone needs to relax and let this play out!

I’m a Franklin fan, but he thoroughly deserves criticism in certain areas and the transfer portal is one of them.

Could be that some of the transfers are waiting to see how we do in the Rose Bowl, especially how we use the WR's. We have a top ranked QB, and so far the #98 ranked WR, mind boggling.

Personally, I was a surprised with Michigan's performance last year, and to some extent this year. They leverage solid OL and DL play with what seems like just enough of everything else-I'm still uncertain how high to rank their QB. Even with any weaknesses, they have and do seem to match up well against their opponents. In the end this about all that matters. Michigan has also built a strong reputation for especially developing high NFL draft picks on OL and recently making the college football playoffs, both which are attractive to portal transfers who may have been unfulfilled in their past individual or team performance. What the portal has shown, even with those PSU has gotten, is that one good year with a new team can catapult a player up the draft ranks.

All I know is that there will now be seven of their players In the race for the Heisman……according to ol Ted.

But seriously, Mich and Buckeyes have long known the real key to consistent winning is the linemen. That’s is why their QBs are always very highly rated and drafted but almost always flame out. It’s easy for the ‘skill’ players to look good when the lines play really well.

High School Recruiting Rankings are going to become more and more meaningless because top players transfer after a year or two (see Texas A&M), and transfers are having more and more of an impact on the good college football teams. Michigan seems to be hitting the transfer portal hard and pressuring the transfer portal players to make a decision quickly (yay or nay) or else Michigan is going to move on towards other players who hit the portal in the future. Its a good strategy for locking in positions of need but it could backfire if a transfer portal player wants to take all of his visits.

So you think kids are basing where they transfer to on a bowl game? Yet you're criticizing me lol
The 2006 Class, one of the best we have had, rated #6 in the country. A number of the recruits waited until after we defeated FSU in the Orange Bowl before committing. So, yes I believe some will wait since they are in no hurry.

Early Signing Day didn't exist then. The summer OVs of today were December and January OVs then. Coaches didn't rush kids because you could evaluate HS senior film and deal with injuries/late bloomers.

The high end kids can wait because they basically have a spot anywhere. Other kids don't have that luxury. Some players are an either or option and the spot is gone if one commits first.

LOL now you believe we got those recruits because we beat a bad FSU team in the Orange Bowl....needing 3 OTs to do it....

A "bad team" with a huge number of players that went to the NFL!!! No matter, a number of them waited until after the bowl game to commit. Give it up son, and get out of your mothers basement, get a job, and stop spending 18 hours on this board with you amateur bullshit.

Fact, they committed after the bowl game, no matter who we defeated!!!

They were barely ranked and people were shocked they beat Va Tech to get to the Rose Bowl. Just because you want to pretend teams are good that aren't doesn't make the good.

You can say whatever you want--there wasn't a single recruit that watched #3 Penn State beat Florida State in 3 OTs at the Orange Bowl that made their decision to attend Penn State based on that game.

See lazydave's response to you--your comments couldn't be more inaccurate regarding this. It had nothing to do with the bowl game.

National Signing Day was in February back then. Kids were taking OVs in January up to signing. It wasn't the same recruiting environment as it is now.

The post got me curious. Went over to the UM site. Beyond noticing the 2 Stanford OL transfers, noted how big a deal landing 3 star safety and LB were, and their effect on possibly breaking inside the recruiting top 20. With the success of the last 2 seasons, I would have expected better star-rated performance from them. But we all know how reliable the star-rating is/isn't. Personally, I wish we had more room for recruits in this range of rating/development. But times are different. Many do not have the persistence to stay and develop, and not see playing time.

I agree. Quarless, Wallace, and Evans committed shortly after the bowl game, and a half dozen more big time recruits a week or so later.
