Michigan picked 4th by writers

Looks like they are the only ones NOT buying the hype.

Trade picked to finish as offensive player of the year

OSU clear favorites with MSU, PSU, and WIS closely bunched.

I don't expect to beat OSU but anything can happen at a home whiteout game. I think the odds are just as long to beat Michigan because the game is on the road. MSU returns a lot including Lewerke who looked like a Heisman candidate vs. PSU last year. I still like PSU at home but not by a wide margin.

collegefootballnews.com has us beating MSU but losing to Wisconsin. I think we can win both games but it will be difficult. Gotta stay healthy with this schedule.

Harbaugh isn't getting fired if Michigan finishes 4th but the boo birds will be out big time if that happens. That would be geat.

We'll be the underdog and it'll be a tough game but I expect to beat OSU. We have some good young talent which will be seeing much more playing time. Add the experienced guys coming back and I like where we are. The players will be hungry after last year's close losses. IMHO, or course.

10 million bucks a year for harbaugh and he's awful. When will they realize? It's like their fans just can't spot a dud when it's right in front of them.

A lot of young players and the OSU game is on September 29th. Will the young players be ready for such a big game that soon? What if the game comes down to a FG? Can a home whiteout crowd be the equalizer?

The world is finally realizing that Harbaugh's coaching ability is a myth. I, too, once thought having him at Michigan was bad for us, but like with Narduzzi at Pitt, I hope he stays there forever.

I think we beat Michigan at the Big House, and I think we have a very good chance of beating OSU at home at night. The game that scares me is MSU.

I'm not going to say it's a myth. I just think winning at Stanford is perhaps a touch easier than winning at Michigan is presently. David Shaw has basically kept up the winning rate. California has more kids to recruit than Michigan. Stanford doesn't have to play Ohio State every year.

It's a lot like SEC schools firing coaches cause they can't beat Saban. Who is?

Michigan is going to have to prove they can score some points before anybody annoints them winning anything. It's becoming the "in" thing to pick on Harbaugh now; previously, it was "in" to rank them high.

I'm more skeptical. I think he won at Stanford because he had a great QB. He didn't make the quarterback; the quarterback made him.

Can't disagree with that. I think home recruiting grounds and strength of conference foes all point favorably for Stanford as well, even if they are not the historical school many still view Michigan as.

Finishing 8-5 the year after your entire defense goes to the NFL, you lose all your receivers and tight end and your QB gets hurt. That’s terrible?

I remember in '16, we had a terrible OL, and at one point were down to 3 healthy LBs coming off sanctions.

Great coaches turn things around.

8-5 isn't terrible, but when your team is preseason top 5-10 practically every year, finishing that way could be construed as terrible.

I guarantee you if Penn State finishes 8-5 this year, it will be viewed as terrible.

We lost by 40 points when we only had 3 healthy linebackers. It wasn’t until our guys got healthy that we started to win.

This year I think we learn what kind of coach Harbaugh is. He has most his starters returning plus a talented QB.

He was 1 questionable spot away from playing in the Big 10 championship and possibly in the playoff in 2016. I just think people are giving up on Harbaugh because of one mediocre year in which he had to replace almost an entire starting lineup.

I've not given up on him. I just believe he's got to win the East once before anybody can justify the hype. They get projected at 4th and you think people have given up? No no. People are just being realistic.

Ha! Michigan’s history is more about their fight song than their actual performance on football fields. The Big (Out)House.....one of the quietest stadiums in the country.

MSU at home scares you, but Michigan I’m the road doesn’t? That doesn’t make sense. Yes, PSU whooped Michigan last year and they lost 5 games, but they ruturn a lot and got a decent QB.

Hope we steam roll them, but it isn’t going to be easy.

I suggest the 247 sports podcast B1G preview for everyone. UM possibly has the best D in the country and Patterson is a high skills former ***** QB. Playing um in November we will know clearly how good they are by game time. Huge game in B1G East race for sure.

It's earlier than it was last year but it is the 5th game of the year. Hard to call the 5th of 12 games early in the season. We'll be ready for OSU.

I hear about this mythical best D in the nation every year.

What I find even more stunning about Harbuaghs time at UM is that for him being a QB guru and The greatest recruiter to walk the face of the earth, how has he not been able to land one serviceable qb that he trusts? He’s had to go get transfers every year.

Michigan could very well have 4 losses before Penn State goes to the Big House (Notre Dame, NW, Wisconsin, Sparty).

Or they could have 0.

Patterson will need to live up to the hype. The WRs will have to be very good. A RB must emerge. OL has to gel.

IIRC, Patterson was ruled eligible after spring practice so he won't be able to practice with the offense until August. IMO its a heavy lift to learn the offense, practice the offense, and develop the necessary chemistry to be running on all cylinders early on. By the time it happens we could be halfway thru the season, imo, tough sledding for Michigan.

The east is stacked...wouldn't be shocking if any of the four teams finished 4th in the east. It would be shocking if any of them finished lower than 4th...that's when the word "horrible' would need to be thrown around.

I mean, sure--unlikely but yeah they could lose to us, Michigan and Michigan State. Maybe Haskins flops...I doubt it but who knows. Ohio State starts the year with Oregon St, Rutgers and TCU so we'll never a pretty good idea where they're at early on

Kevin Wilson did a good job last year for Ohio State last year. It'll be interesting to see what he does with the new QB and the Offense again this year...?

You should be asking that of the OSU qb.
