I find it interesting that Heinselman wrestled unattached.

Might Ryan be looking at a RS for him

Both of Hoffman's losses are really bad.

Cahill was sub .500 last year at 174 for Clarion. Hoffman should never lose to him.

Acciardi is decent. Hoffman shouldn't lose to him either, but the score is more alarming than the loss itself.

Between these and the wrestle-off, something is wrong. Not just the results -- he should be scoring more.

Cahill is the pride of District 5 at least until McCoy gets going. I remember the Beard over Hoffman debate, would like to see Beard post results on the the top 20 to close the loop. I didn’t pick Beard to be the better recruit. Shameful.

Dunno, but speculation on the tOSU board is that Hoffman is sucking too much weight at 184.

I would not be surprised to learn that Gavin showed up well over the 184 limit and needs time to adjust to 184 the right way. He seems to lack the energy to score. I am guessing He will adjust and get better again. Then again......he wrestled 220 as a sophomore in HS. That said.....so glad PSU has Beard.

I don't doubt that Hoffman would be better at 197. (Of course that's not an option this year.)

But "he wrestled 220 as a HS soph" is not evidence of that. He did that for one offseason tournament. It was an experiment to help him with college planning. Afterward he said he felt sluggish at that weight. Other than an occasional HS dual bump-up for the team, that was the last time he wrestled that weight.

If that one offseason tourney means Hoffman needs to go up.a weight now, then Matt Brown had no business at 174 for 3 years after his 197 matches as a freshman.

Nothing says boring like 2 all-American years now going for hopefully 3 and being a great student and respectful of the sport. Sort of like Penn St football uniforms boring but keeps winning lol

Strawman response. Not making any commentary at all about being a good kid, student, representative of his school, etc.

Strictly speaking of wrestling style, and in terms of this and this alone, he is indisputably BORING.

Hoffman is much better than those results, have to believe he is cutting too much.

People can be too hard on Pletcher because of his style, he is a very good wrestler in the process of a nice career that has always exhibited good sportsmanship.

Hoffman went 20-3 wrestling at 184 last year.

Who knows though, maybe he has grown ... it happens.

Then speaking of wrestling 6 JO titles 3 piaa titles 1 runner up 2 time all American 1 win away from 3. Hopefully gets the third AA this pretty good boring career.

I'm afraid you're still missing the point. Boring does not necessarily mean ineffective either. There have been many successful boring wrestlers; that doesn't mean I look forward to watching their matches. Perhaps I'm spoiled by watching so many aggressive, constantly shooting, disciples of Cael. That said, Pletcher remains BORING to watch wrestle.

I’m not missing any point. A lot of people don’t like a 2-1 match or doing what you need to do to win. And I’m biased but just go by the results. But whatever everyone has their opinion so best of luck to you and PSU this year on the road to Minnesota

I think he's simply defending a friend and relative, who beat the top-ranked wrestler at his weight in a tough battle.

Once this board figures out our 15 scoring wrestlers at the Scuffle we didn’t schedule, I can’t wait for the year-long “Why didn’t we recruit Sasso?” Threads.
Which started when he was in high school.

Don't worry, give him a couple years and the D11 folks will have him performing minor miracles like turning water into wine, maybe even sainthood level miracles like deadlifting out of bottom.

Sammy once beat teammate Stefanik in a game of Connect 4 in 3 moves, then he went to a Burger King in Bath, PA and ordered a Big Mac and got it

Pletch 5, your nephew has given your family, District 7 and all of PA wrestling a great deal to be proud of. By all accounts of those who know him he is as good of a person as he is a wrestler.
While I haven’t followed this Open Tournament closely, my only disappointment was seeing both your nephew and Micky Phillippi as winners at 133 and 141. I hate to see this wonderful rivalry come to an end. I’ve watched those two face each other numerous times in HS and each time they put on an exciting show with most of those matches ending with a 3-2 score.
