BELLEFONTE - Penn State, even as it appeals $12.3 million in verdicts awarded to former football assistant Mike McQueary in a civil suit last fall, is now trying to limit additional costs from related legal fees.
At issue are fees associated with the $5 million Judge Thomas Gavin awarded McQueary in November on a whistleblower claim he was treated significantly differently by the university after being publicly named as a cooperating witness in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse investigation.
Gavin also permitted McQueary to seek recovery of legal fees, which in a wrinkle in the state's whistleblower law, are tacked on top of the underlying award.
