So as some of you know, I’m not just a PSU wrestling fan, but a fan of the sport in general. With conference tournaments kicking off, and nationals right around the corner, I like to browse other forums and see what the latest news, talking points, and predictions are. I find myself over on HR every now and then (it’s like a car wreck, you have to look). Being from PA, I watched all the guys on their roster come up through the ranks ( although they all pretty much started and stayed at the top of those ranks ). I’m still a fan of all the PA Hawks, and wish them nothing but the best. I try not to engage in that forum as I don’t feel it necessary. I like this forum where though we may differ on opinions, we’re all basically on the same page (see what I did there?).

However, while browsing tonight, there was a comparison to Starocci shutting down Ken’s offense like Hall. I found a user that decided, it all depended on the ref (if Starocci does indeed shut him down) and continued Nico (and Mark Hall), were, and I quote, “Master stallers”, when they had someone pressured them, or were not dominating their opponent.

Now apparently I don’t understand the sport, they told me so. But, was it me, or was Nico’s pace one of the highest to ever step on mat? IMO he’s right up there with the likes of Nolf, Taylor, Ruth, Retherford, etc...

My guess is the comments about Nico all stem from the final against Gilman. I recall a lot of salt over him shifting gears and coasting to victory late in the 3rd. I don’t think the criticism is all unfair there, though obviously I’m happy with the way the match ended.

The best unsolicited advice I can give, which basically applies to all of the internet and politics, is don't invest time or get wrapped up in any individual person's bad take. 99.9999% of the time it isn't worth the effort and nobody wins the ensuing battle.

Gilman got his revenge in freestyle! Although nowadays Nico would probably stall his way to a cheap pin over a regressing Gilman

Why do u think Iowa /flo want the push out rule. They can take us back 20 yrs where Iowa can hope to become the dominant force again, by making college wrestling a boring club push club push hump leg for 7 min.

The worst staller I have ever watched is now an assistant coach for the Hawkeyes. He rode a single leg on top/blocked and pushed on his feet. Morningstall set the sport back 30 years just by making weight. He made Tony Nelson look like Jason Nolf.
You chose a Hawkeye as your worst of all time? No way! I would have never predicted that! I'm flabbergasted

I'm really starting to think he's a Jammez-like troll. That's a shame. I had higher expectations and actually gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I had a similar reaction on your board when Nico was considered a master staller. Loyalty and dislike runs deep on both sides for some.

Meh...ignore it.

Good, old-fashioned fan banter is great, but doesn't work well on anonymous forums. Reasonable attempts at debate quickly go down the rabbit hole, and escalate into bitter, hateful, rage-filled posts from some on the home team. HR has just made a science of it, that's all, and few there have the capacity to stop the spiral downward on a topic once it starts. It's a shame really.

Sadly this is the case -- they even laugh at themselves, calling HR the cesspool. As a community, over the years, I've found HR to contain among the most knowledgeable of fans, with a passion to match. As individual posters, there are one-percenters at both ends of the spectrum, chief for example at one end, and fill in the blanks for those at the other end.

We aren't angels here either, though the overall tone of this board has rarely reached the crescendos as seen on HR.

I come in piece but Jungle Kitty should go find the thread or threads about some of the Hawkeye fans that came over here to start shit and then ran back to HR to say "GOT 'EM". Kitty, you're doing the same thing, leave mommy and daddy out of this.

All in all you will have the idiots on every board like Roar said, I tend to just read and scroll right on past foolish comments. I will say that every once in awhile someone will piss me off and I will respond harshly only to ask myself why the F did I go to their level? As Mark Twain said "never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

You guys have some great knowledgeable posters over here and we can all put on the colored glasses. Here is to a great BIG10 and NCAA tourney. Hope everyone is healthy and ready to go. Cheers

Everything went downhill after he got rid of the mullet. ;)
On average all halkeyes tend to stall and not go big that's the iowa way. Of course there are a few guys that pushed the issue but I know when I watch an iowa match I'm not going to get excited much lol
